College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season

The weed/gun charges dropped were meaningless. They couldn't link either directly to Hairston. The trouble is with the rental car, the individual who rented it and his links to UNC.

This is unbelievable. Time for PJ to GTFO. He clearly doesn't care.
  • wildcats20
Yeah it's time to cut ties. Will be a huge loss, but no need for this to continue.
  • ironman02
Looks like the car belongs to his girlfriend's family, so I think that's some decent news.

Roy has suspended him indefinitely, which seems to indicate that he isn't gonna kick him off the team. It's incredibly stupid to be driving 93 in a 65, but if this was an isolated incident, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. It's not an isolated incident, though. PJ has been on a path of recklessness for the last few months. Speeding tickets, getting pulled over with weed and maybe a gun in the vehicle, not to mention that the other cars he has been pulled over in were rented by a known felon.

I wouldn't blame Roy one bit if PJ never puts on a Carolina uniform again, but it looks like he may give him another chance. PJ better be on some damn good behavior for the rest of his time in Chapel Hill. He has already embarrassed his coach, teammates, and the university multiple times, and probably has the NCAA coming to town to investigate his rental cars. Never would've expected this out of him, but he clearly has some issues that need dealt with before he ends up hurting himself or someone else.

Some thought Vanderbilt would shake off a bad year last year and end up decent in 2013-14.

    6/13/2013 - #6 scorer Sheldon Jeter transfers
7/28/2013 - #5 scorer Kevin Bright signs with German professional team
7/29/2013 - #1 scorer Kedren Johnson dismissed for a "breach of student conduct"

BTW, I'm in a fantasy draft now. There is a "recruiting/keeper" draft after the first 16 X 11 draft where Freshman will be drafted for 4 rounds. Right now, it's just SO, JR and SR's.

I had #2 overall and took Marcus Smart, and it's coming back around to me. It's a pretty smart group of people who are using the scoring pretty advantageously. Thoughts on who I should target? Thus far...

    Will Sheehey!!!
  • Terry_Tate
    The Q, LaQuinton Ross
  • Azubuike24
Unfortunately, I may have to take a center soon. The positions are based on the school's official site. Unfortunately, about 95% of schools don't list ANYONE as a center. If they are listed as a forward on the school's site, even if they are 7'2, 280 lbs, they are only a forward, so finding a center eligibility is going to be pretty difficult.

I'm up next, Ross is a guy I will seriously consider. Sheehey, we will see if he goes in the top 4 rounds.
  • Laley23
Aaron white. Maybe a F tjough
  • Azubuike24
    D'Angelo Harrison, St. John's
    Willie Cauley-Stein, Kentucky
    LaQuinton Ross, Ohio State
    Jarnell Stokes, Tennessee
    DeAndre Kane, Iowa State
    Rodney Hood, Duke
    Patric Young, Florida
    Anthony Hickey, LSU
    Tyler Haws, BYU
  • Laley23
You also might get lucky with IU listing Vonleh as a C. Crean has said he will probably start there.

I can't think of any Cs who aren't listed as 4s off the top of my head.
  • Azubuike24
I'm leaning Stokes, he was 13 and 10 last year in 25 MPG. If the dude ever stayed out of foul trouble, he could be an 18/12 guy. PF is pretty deep though, with the centers listed as forwards mostly, and the forwards are dominating the top recruits (Randle, Wiggins, Parker, Vonleh, Walker, Gordon, etc...).

I will look at Yogi too, assuming he can get his assists up to like 7-8 a game. He should definitely score a ton more and I'm betting that he won't be one of the top 10 PG's taken.
  • Azubuike24
Yeah, for instance, Cauley-Stein was a F last year on UK's site. WTF, 7'1 and probably will be around 250-260 this year. That's not a freaking forward...haha.
  • Azubuike24
    Through 5 rounds.

    Marcus Smart, Oklahoma State
    D'Angelo Harrison, Saint John's
    Jarnell Stokes, Tennessee
    Johnny O'Bryant, Louisiana State
    Willie Cauley-Stein, Kentucky

Greg Whittington, Aaron Craft, C.J. Aiken, Trevor Releford, DeAndre Kane and Tyreke Duren are next on my list.

I may be more excited for Wayne Selden over Andrew Wiggins for KU this season. Kid can flat out soar.

I kind of wish UK/KU played this year, considering they will probably have 7 lottery picks.
  • Azubuike24
BTW, The Champions Classic has been renewed with the same 4 schools participating in a round robin format (UK, KU, Duke, MSU) for 3 more years. Most likely, the rotation will be the same.

    2014-UK/KU, MSU/Duke
    2015-UK/Duke, MSU/KU
    2016-UK/MSU, Duke/KU

    Happy to hear this.

Good. Based on recent success, three of those four schools are the only teams that deserve consideration for involvement in a true "champions" classic. Although UNC has certainly failed to live up to a champion level since the 2008-09 season, an argument could certainly be made for the Tar Heels to replace Michigan State, which hasn't won a title since 2000. Even UConn might have a claim, but with Calhoun gone, the aura surrounding the Huskies isn't quite as high. Louisville is also another team that could be added to the conversation, but I still do not consider them an elite, bluebood of the sport, which I think is the whole idea of the "champions Classic."

But, since UNC and Duke would never both be involved in an early-season event such as this, a decision to cut one of the two had to be made.

Various sources are indicating that Indianapolis is a contender to serve as one of the hosting sites for the Champions Classic's next cycle. That would be fantastic for the UK, Kansas and Duke fans on this site (I don't think we have any Michigan State fans here). Hopefully this turns out to be true.

Has anyone else heard of any other possible sites? In the end, I suspect that New York -- or New Jersey -- will definitely hold one of the games the next go-round (for obvious reasons) and, in all likelihood, Atlanta once again due to the size of the Georgia Dome and the fact that it's really the only other major city in the Midwest relatively close to each participating school's fan-base.
  • Laley23
Lucas Oil holds 70k for basketball. I dont think the Champions Classic will care to much about the 5k less than the Georgia Dome. Particularly since it is going to be a much better atmosphere in Indy (closer) than it will in Atlanta or NYC, imo.

Also, in no Universe is Atlanta Midwest...

It should be in Chicago every weekend.

But of course I'm biased. Lol
