Tressel forwarding emails to TP's mentor

OSU also imposed a 2 game suspension and thought that would be sufficient. The NCAA may force OSU's hand. I really don't think it will come to that, but I do think the NCAA will have a bigger penalty that many want to believe. -

You are right, but if you are a booster and watched the press confrence question about forwarding emails and now you are suprised the he forwarded it to someone, you would have to be incredibly stupid. No one is freaking out about this "new" information other than OSU haters.thedynasty1998;723965 wrote:Yes, OSU knew about it previously. However, the fans and boosters didn't. I would imagine Tressel still has support of the fan base, but if he starts to lose that support he then is much easier to let go.
Tressel is great for OSU because he wins games, but also because Boosters love him and he's a good ambassador for the University. But if people start questioning his integrity and start to think he's a liar, then nothing is off limits. -

The only thing I agree with is the first sentence. OSU will not do anything until the investigation is over. Yes, the NCAA already knows, and so does OSU. But the investigation is still ongoing. OSU will not and should not react until the NCAA is done.OneBuckeye;723957 wrote:Exactly my point. That is why this email isn't a big deal because the NCAA already knew about it. It all depends on who he forwarded it to, like other coaches, gene smith etc as to how much trouble Tress/OSU will be in. If he had done so, I think self punishment would have already been issued. They did say at the presser that Tressel is as far as it went at OSU, so as an OSU fan I hope that is the case. If it came out that he emailed it to Gene Smith, then OSU is in deep shit, if they didn't tell that to the NCAA back in Feburary. Because OSU says that Tressel is as far as it went at OSU then forwarding it to a "mentor" is not a big deal. It doesn't change the fact that he didn't come forward with the info and played the players knowing they were ineligable. All things we already knew. Nothing new.
Also OSU and NCAA already knew about this, so its not like OSU just found out he forwarded it to him, this is not going to make them fire Tressel because they knew this already. The fire tressel people think OSU found out about this today and will now react. They did and it was a 2 game suspension, 250k fine.
And him asking for the additional suspension to 5 games was most likely an "oh shit, we might get hammered. Let's make ourselves look good to the NCAA and maybe they'll take it easy on us." Just as I suspected. It's all coming together now. -

I agree, that is why Tressel asked for 5 games. OSU is doing this investigation with the NCAA and I think they had a good feel for what the extra punishment was going to be, thus the extra 3 games. That way the NCAA comes out and says 5 games is OK then OSU/Tressel will look better. I don't know if that will happen but we will see. I don't think they go for more because the ones that committed the crime got 5 so I doubt it would be more, but stranger things have happend. -

I would say the only ones not freaking out are the OSU homers who don't want Tressel to be gone. And that is acrossed multiple message boards and all my OSU friends.OneBuckeye;723968 wrote:You are right, but if you are a booster and watched the press confrence question about forwarding emails and now you are suprised the he forwarded it to someone, you would have to be incredibly stupid. I could care less if Tressel goes or stays. I just don't want the program punished for his mistakes. Like Scholarships and bowl games taken away. I just see alot of people making assumptions and theorizing. Now I can't say I havne't done the same in the case of other programs like Auburn. But, I don't like it when someone does to my school. I like to stick to the facts. -

It's not that he did indeed forward them. It's that he hung his hat on confidentiality for his reason of not forwarding to compliance, and that he didn't know who to turn to with the information. That is a lie, because he turned to some PA businessman, or all people. You find out your star player commits a NCAA violation and you contact a businessman in another state, but don't inform your bosses? That just doesn't look good.OneBuckeye;723968 wrote:You are right, but if you are a booster and watched the press confrence question about forwarding emails and now you are suprised the he forwarded it to someone, you would have to be incredibly stupid. You can't compare Tressel's punishment to the players. Yes, the players committed a violation, but they are claiming that they weren't aware it was a violation. Tressel knew it was a violation when it came to his attention and then lied about it. -

Sure. But I was able to take it head on and try to separate facts from fiction. I didn't just claim innocence and defend everyone's actions. -

Wasn't the PA buisnessman was Terrell's guardian at some point in his life, his closest thing to a father figure.... -

That is exactly what I am doing. I'm not defending anyones actions. I am just saying this stuff is all things we already knew. -

Who knows? I remember Charlie Batch also being his "father figure".
Was this businessman a part of his life when he was in 6th grade? I don't know. -

Wrong.
Buckeye fan here and I can see plenty of smoke right now. I have said all along that I envisioned this situation getting uglier as time goes on.
Dynasty makes the key point. He clung to the confidentiality BS all along as being the reason he sat on this information, and now we are finding out that this information wasn't so "confidential" that he couldn't tell TP's mentor. -

I'm curious as to why you responded this way.

To both, Obviously this goes back to the practicing violations. While I don't think anyone screamed for the DP, I remember several OSU fans getting their jabs in and making statements regarding suspension and what not. The DP was never mentioned, but I understand what the OP was saying. -

That is true, hard to say. If you were Tressel and you were going to email the preson responsible for Pryor (Ie: Father or Mother) who do you talk to? Apparently this guy. -
ksig489Just got an email from my mom who works at OSU and according to her, there are more faculty members and students in her building who think Tressel should be fired than ones who dont. People are starting to get fed up with the lies. She said when the news about the emails going to the mentor came out a guy who works in her office went from a staunch JT supporter who thinks he does no wrong to calling for his head on a platter in about 3 seconds.
This is tearing into the OSU community and causing people to take sides. OSU has to get a handle on this ASAP and make sure no more bombs are dropped. No matter what OSU or the NCAA already knows, the court of public opinion will just get more and more riled up with each new news report. -
jordo212000Another key aspect here... what did Tress hope to accomplish by telling this mentor? Why couldn't he talk to TP himself and express what he told the mentor? What could this mentor actually "do" about this situation?
Why couldn't he tell TP's mom? -

TP's mom is mess, she lives with TP in dublin...
He obviously talked to these guys about it because he wanted more names before he gave the new rings out. He probably wanted to make sure everyone got their ass chewed out that deserved it. -
Terry_Tate
Exactly how I feel. None of this looks good, so there better be some good stuff in those e-mails that were exchanged to make this look better for Tressel's sake. My opinion from the get-go was that I thought he should be fired if everything that was known at the time was true and there was nothing more going on. Unless some saintly stuff comes out I don't know if my opinion will change. I still think Tressel is a great guy that has done thousands of good things, but this is not a situation you put yourself in at a major university.jordo212000;723995 wrote:Wrong.

I'm just curious (no trolling or anything) as to why he lives all the way out in Dublin instead of close to campus/in campus housing or something. Don't athletes usually room together? -
OneBuckeyeI agree the confidentiality defense was weak sauce. He did it, that was a pretty lame excuse. Does it matter what the excuse is? I don't know, but I don't think that changes OSU or the NCAAs ruling.

They do, in apartments in dublin. I think a lot of them like the apartments by the quary just west of scioto CC. That may not be dublin, whatever part of town that is. Scholarship players get lots of $$ in their stipen plenty of money to split a very nice apartment.
