How Much Trouble Is OSU and Tressel in Now?!

Oversight is as plausible a reason as any of you willing to hang him from the rafters in effigy have suggested. As a follower of J. Tressel and in light of the enormous pluses he's brought to the University I'm more than willing to hold off on bearing a pitch fork. If some of you don't like it too fucking bad.

It's not likely that Tressel just "forgot" about the emails. He received the first two emails in April. Both times, Cicero initiated the email exchange. In June, Tressel initiated an email exchange asking Cicero if there were any more names. So to say he got the info...and then forgot about it doesn't hold water because he sure as hell remembered 2 months later or else he would not have initiated another exchange with Cicero.

So saying that he's human and just "forgot" is not a good enough excuse for me. He deliberately didn't do anything about it (or did and is now covering for his boss).

That's fine sherm, I don't believe for a fucking minute that the exchange between the two was intended for some kind of damn conspiracy to cover up shit, lol, I just don't buy it. OSU reports every damn thing under the sun to remain as compliant as possible, what would have changed in this instance? Other than a two week window where confidentiality wasn't an issue, and action wasn't taken how can you derive your conclusion?

    1. Two week window where nothing happened.
    2. Cicero said he was trying to get the memorabilia back off of the agents that raided Rife's house.
    3. Tressel knowingly lied about the emails on multiple occasions.

You can disagree with me. But it's not as crazy of a theory as you are making it out to be.

No intent to deceive or gain an advantage? He said in an interview that he knew it was inevitable the players in question would be ruled ineligible. He deceived everyone so he could gain an advantage by keeping them on the field. Come on man.

Why do some people question whether or not Tressels job is safe? The man is not going to lose his job, nor should he. He will serve his 2 games (maybe 4 or 5 if the NCAA gets involved) and thats it.

I don't think that's the discussion. I think at one point it was...but now it's not IF he should lose his job, it's SHOULD he lose his job.

How did this lawyer know about Ohio State memorabilia being in the tattoo parlor?
Does the lawyer get tattooed there? Or buy drugs there?
Did the tattoo parlor have the stuff for sale?
Did the tattoo parlor have the stuff on display?
Did this lawyer get information from the FBI, those who reported the stuff being at the tattoo parlor?
Why did this lawyer only know about two Ohio State players?
If the lawyer knew Tressel, why not send the e-mails to his home.
If the lawyer was concerned about confidentiality why would he send his e-mails to an athletic department e-mail address?
If the lawyer wanted to facilitate a cover up why send the e-mails to an athletic department e-mail address?
Why did Tressel keep the e-mails?

Have you read anything on this topic at all?

You think the 2 games is sufficient?

    Well let's see...

Jim Delaney doesn't think he should.
Gordon Gee doesn't think he should.
Gene Smith doesn't think he should.
The NCAA doesn't think he should.

The only ones I've heard that thinks he should are inconsequential nobodies.

No one of any sensibility thinks 2 games is sufficient. It's all a part of the silly game that the NCAA plays. They have NO specific punishments for any violations, they make them up as they go along. The 2 games and $250 K is a staring point. The starting point will allow the NCAA to double the punishment and show they are serious about ....oh....something along the lines of "cleaning up Div1 college football".

I'm sorry. I thought the purpose of a message board was to discuss things like this in regards to the sporting world. But since all of those guys think JT should not be fired...we should just quit talking about it. You hear that everyone?! Discussion is over because those guys have never made a mistake or done something that deserves to be questioned!

By the way, where did you get that the NCAA doesn't think he should be fired. I must have missed where they ruled on the issue or made any statement at all about it. Don't count your chickens...

Did Delaney actually say that? I know Gee and Smith did of course. And the NCAA has yet to say what they think.

And it wouldn't be good enough for ytown if it was an SEC or Michigan coach either.

The NCAA hasn't ruled on anything yet, correct?

Not to my knowledge. But according to Big Gain he did. And we're not allowed to discuss it.

I don't give a shit what the final scenario entails, as long as there was no intent to deceive or gain an advantage, the bottom line is that he has benefited this university and more importantly the athletes he's come in contact with immeasurably. I feel bad for the guy, he's in hot water because he does his level headed best to steer 100 idiots down the straight and narrow path, unfortunately, not everyone heeds his tutelage. Should he have set in motion an investigation during the 2 week time frame based on the email from a former walk on? Maybe, seems credible enough, but what would be your guidelines for doing such? Where is that fucking manual anyway?

God knows he gets a shit ton of email, think it's possible he forgot? Maybe, he is friggin human after all. Anddddd that pretty much sums up my thoughts on the issue. Great post.

I've held off on bashing you on this point but you keep bringing it up so it leaves me no choice.

Jim Tressel said those words on February 8 before this whole thing busted on his face, and he was referring to once he found out who the players were that were involved. None of the emails from April name specific players. So no, he didn't fucking know in April who it was and who would be ineligible.

So quit bringing up a moot point, or actually, keep repeating it over and over and over again to satisfy your narrow mind.

Again, you are both delusional if you believe even half of that post. You think he forgot about it? He responded 3 or 4 times? He said multiple times he would get right on it and asked for more information. Are you both choosing to ignore the fact that Tressel said that he knew the players would eventually be ruled ineligible, but played them anyway? Are you just choosing not to actually pay attention to any facts and already have your mind made up?

Have you even read the emails? How you be so blatantly wrong, yet act like you are so knowing?

From the email on April 2nd:
"I am being told "player" and other players have taken Eddie Rife signed memorabilia....who has been selling it for a profit"
"I have been told OSU players including "player" have been given free tattoo in exchange for memorabilia"

It's not even worth discussing the situation with people who want to believe Tressel "forgot" about the emails. It's just plain dumb.
