How Much Trouble Is OSU and Tressel in Now?!

You really need to step back and look at this objectively lhs. Like I said before, you're clearly close to the program. But you're disregard for what happened is laughable. You are coming off like the girl who just got smacked around by her boyfriend and is standing outside yelling at the cops that he loves you and you don't want to press charges because what he did wasn't that bad.

Not at all. The entire situation isn't finished and I really believe Tressel is taking the fall here and that is why his job is safe. This is a serious enough offense that he should be fired, but Tressel is a play it by the books guy (you guys might want to actually research the YSU situation) and I have faith in him that he did indeed forward the emails, and is taking the hit to avoid OSU getting hit much much harder like they probably should be.

So you have faith that he has lied and is continuing to lie?

Right. Forwarding them and then covering for the university would be an even bigger offense, IMO. And also would show little self respect on his part. I don't think the school would do that to him.

I was hoping the two guys mentioned in the emails were former players. The lawyer said something about one of the two about it not being surprise, as if it were in that players character. I think it's safe to assume that player was Pryor as Posey has a pretty good reputation from what I hear.
  • karen lotz
I think the player he was referring to as not being a surprise was the player who sold his national championship ring. Wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be MoC.

Yes. I think he's covering up.

And you think he should keep his job?

karen lotz;708063 wrote:And you think he should keep his job?

Are you an idiot? Do you not comprehend what my opinion is?

Tressel DID his job. His superiors fucked up. He's now taking the heat because his superiors won't fire him if he takes the heat instead of the whole program taking the heat.

So now you're questioning that I think Tressel should keep his job even though he did his job???. LOL

Note: This is obviously just based on my opinion of what I think happened
  • karen lotz
I know what you are saying. If he is covering it up, that is adding more lies to the whole thing. He lied Tuesday and lied about forwarding the emails. That's why I am asking if you feel his job is safe. His job isn't to mislead the NCAA.

Maybe you are the idiot if you can't see that my question about his job was in direct response to you saying he is covering it up.
  • lhslep134
    Karen,

If his bosses are in charge of telling him his job, and if they're telling him to cover up, then he's doing his "job" in the eyes of his superiors. Does that make it right? Nope.

But is his job safe? I think so. The NCAA can't force OSU to fire him, if that's what you were asking me.
  • thedynasty1998
How anyone can realistically think Gene Smith asked Tressel to take the fall is beyond me. Just such an idiotic thought.

How do we know for certain that Yahoo wasn't tipped off and called OSU and asked for any email correspondence between Tressel and Cicero?

Come on, your not that stupid to actually think or believe what was released to the media was the same as what was given to the NCAA, do you? I swear sometimes, you just pull shit out of your ass so you can argue with everyone on here. YOu act like you know everything that went on within this case based on what you read on the internet. Seriously..you gotta be smarter than that. If I have said it once, I have said it 100 times...there is MUCH more, good or bad, to this than what we are seeing or reading. I am not defending Tressel at all. But he isn't as stupid as this looks. He had his reason, and I can't believe he thought this would just go away. But lets not make something out of nothing...

Sorry, I gotta LOL at this statement...again. How exactly did he lie on Tues? DO you know for a fact? HE screwed up, he isn't dumb enough to go on national TV and compound this problem even more by lying. I don't believe that for one second.

I believe that line you quoted was confirming what lep's little theory is - that Tressel actually forwarded the emails and is now covering up for someone higher than him. That would make the information provided on Tuesday...lies. Doesn't seem likely, which is why most people are disagreeing with lep right now.

I don't think the situation is anything as white or black as people think. There's a lot of fishy gray to be revealed before I make a full judgment on the issue.

It seems as though you've already made your judgment. And in your eyes, Tressel can do no wrong.

This is one stupid attorney. IF he wanted the athletic department to do something about Tattoo Gate, why not sent the e-mail to Gene Smith. All Tressel would be is a conduit between the attorney and someone who could do something about the matter. Why not send the e-mail to Tressel's personal e-mail address. It's almost like he was setting Tressel up, asking for confidentiality.

I disagree. Now this is just my opinion...but the way I see it is that Cicero was emailing Tressel to give him the head's up in an attempt to sweep it all under the rug. In the second email, Cicero actually says that he wanted to try to get the stuff back that was taken during the raid on Rife's house. It would appear to me, that Cicero was sending this info to let Tressel know it was happening, and offering to help Tressel hide all the evidence of it.

I don't think he wanted something done. I think he was opening up to Tressel because he figured between the two of them they could hide everything that happened and keep everyone out of trouble.

Tressel in my eyes is still taking one for the team. No one asked him to do it.

I don't give a shit what the final scenario entails, as long as there was no intent to deceive or gain an advantage, the bottom line is that he has benefited this university and more importantly the athletes he's come in contact with immeasurably. I feel bad for the guy, he's in hot water because he does his level headed best to steer 100 idiots down the straight and narrow path, unfortunately, not everyone heeds his tutelage. Should he have set in motion an investigation during the 2 week time frame based on the email from a former walk on? Maybe, seems credible enough, but what would be your guidelines for doing such? Where is that fucking manual anyway?

God knows he gets a shit ton of email, think it's possible he forgot? Maybe, he is friggin human after all. Oversight is as plausible a reason as any of you willing to hang him from the rafters in effigy have suggested. As a follower of J. Tressel and in light of the enormous pluses he's brought to the University I'm more than willing to hold off on bearing a pitch fork. If some of you don't like it too fucking bad.
