How Much Trouble Is OSU and Tressel in Now?!

Yes, Tressel received the emails in April and was asked to keep things confidential. I buy that part of his statement.
However, in the email dated June 1st, the attorney writes: "No more names as the federal government appears to have reached a resolution for [redacted] Eddie Riffe." So if the case was done, Tressel should have reported everything he knew as of June 1st. But he did not. When everything broke in December, apparently he was still withholding this information from the NCAA.
I don't think the punishments are done. Things don't look good for Tressel if the NCAA reads things the way I did.
The email you reference is from the compliance guy Archie, not the federal attorney. -

Butch hasnt been in Miami for years. You know this, right? -

And as we know, the compliance officer eventually ends up "reassigned" in these situations, even if they do everything exactly by the book. -

Yes. And I know the program didn't suddenly go back to being slimy when he left. Larry Coker couldn't coach, but he didn't cheat. Randy Shannon lost way too much, but he didn't cheat.
The bad element left when Butch came in and hasn't returned. -

Clearly he didn't do something right, whether it be communication with the NCAA or communicating with Tressel as to his next course of action that make him compliant. Lol -
september63Not a single post here disputes Tressel will stick up for his players. He cares for his players. He wishes the best and looks out for his players. He also had a lapse in judgement here. Who here hasnt ever had a lapse in judgement? Anyone ever made a mistake?

ytownfootballApril 16th...from Jim Tressel to Doug Archie...compliance at Ohio State
Yo! Compliance guy! What the fuck! Do your fuckin' job!...Thanks for your help...keep me posted as to what I need to do if anything...
Looks to me that more blame is going to be coming this guys way. -
sherm03ytownfootball;704427 wrote:The email you reference is from the compliance guy Archie, not the federal attorney.
I disagree. I think eventually these emails were sent to the compliance guy. But I believe the emails are direct correspondences between Tressel and the attorney (whose name is blacked out.)
I don't think that any of those emails are to or from Doug Archie. I think eventually, the messages were forwarded to him. And they were printed off from his email account. However, the back and forth is between Tressel and the attorney telling him the information. I don't think Archie has anything to do with this initial correspondence. -

Tressel sent that to the attorney. I think Doug Archie's name is on there because he printed out the emails. There's nothing there that proves Tressel sent those emails to Archie when he got them, even though it looks like it. -

I don't think Doug Archie is involved with any of the emails. I think he printed these emails off during the investigation, and that is why his name is on the page. -
Fab1bSo am I seeing that Tress did notify the compliance officer in that email? If that is the Doug Archie??? If so why the hell is Tress being punished and saying he didn't disclose it????? Or did Doug Archie just get the emails in Jan and that is why he is in the header as he provided them from his account??

Doug Archie IS the compliance guy at Ohio State...there are email with the senders name blacked out...those are the federal attorney.

They would not leave Doug Archie's name at the top, and then black it out in the to and from sections of the emails. They also blacked out the name on the email from April 16 where JT responds, "[BLANK] - I hear you! It's unbelievable!"
They would not black out the name if his email said, "Doug - I hear you!"
The messages are between JT and the attorney. Doug Archie is just the one who got the email chain and printed it off. -

Nobody is arguing that he isn't the compliance officer. We are saying that he is not directly involved with any of the emails. The only reason his name comes up is because they were his investigative files that were given out to the media. -

Stop. Tressel has to be accountable here. This isnt YSU, where all of the indiscretions get pushed onto a compliance officer. -

Exactly. The emails are just between JT and the attorney. There is nothing in that chain that shows that Tressel forwarded the emails to the compliance guy. All that shows is that AT SOME POINT, Doug Archie got the emails (more than likely during OSU's investigation in January) and printed them off as part of the report. He had no connection to the email chain, so therefore should not be chastised to "do his job." -

And that makes sense but when did Archie get them? -
Cleveland BuckNone of those emails were sent to or from Archie. Tressel fucked up here. I do, however, get a kick out of the trolls getting up in arms about this bullshit, wanting to vacate all of last season like that will erase the beating the Buckeyes put on their high paid SEC boys.

ytownfootballI see what you're saying now...maybe so
Not convinced though -
elbuckeye28Fab1b;704460 wrote:And that makes sense but when did Archie get them?
I'm assuming January when the emails were found. -
sherm03Fab1b;704460 wrote:And that makes sense but when did Archie get them?
That is a question that I'm sure will be answered when the NCAA further investigates the situation. But by the looks of it, he did not have anything between the first email or the email on June 6th. If he did, OSU would have produced that email as well. -
passwordcentralbucksfan;704319 wrote:Clueless. Read up on the Pearl issue. He lied diretly to NCAA during interviews. I'll make a wager the NCAA wont' add anything else. OSU has done their homework, spent big bucks on this to cover their ass.
Didn't Tressel lie to the NCAA by not mentioning what he knew? -
elbuckeye28password;704469 wrote:Didn't Tressel lie to the NCAA by not mentioning what he knew?
Pearl's case is much more black and white. Pearl hosted BBQ, NCAA found out, Pearl lies and tries to get recruit(I think Craft) to lie as well. Tressel's case has much more grey area because of the FBI/lawyers/criminal case involved. -
ytownfootballI would think that if anyone other than Tressel knew of this before the first week of December then it's water under the bridge. If he was the only one who knew and failed to let the compliance department know then, well, I guess he's still in the wrong. I still feel his thought was that a federal situation supersedes the NCAA compliance issue...I don't blame him for that. Still a mistake but one the NCAA won't add anything further to.
