How Much Trouble Is OSU and Tressel in Now?!

ICEMAN59After reading the emails, I'm even more skeptical . . . they are far less official, imposing and well-written than I would have imagined

What should he have done then? -

I think Tressel's best bet would have been to say that he did not take the e-mails seriously as they were about as unofficial as possible. -

Not to say that he should have done this or that but I have seen some very unofficial looking emails come people in high positions. -

I'm sure it's common, but to start the conversation calling him Tressell is an interesting way to begin. -

Dude sent Michigan to Will and Grace-ville.
That's real talk. -
jordo212000I'm not feeling go about this situation at all. There is a lot more to this story and alot of what Tress was saying didn't pass the smell test. I felt this way before I looked at those emails. I am even more worried now that I see those emails. It is very explicit in what it says and Tress actually responds to the email. At one point, the lawyer advises Tress to tell the players not to call that guy anymore because when he goes down, the police will have a connection to Ohio State (i.e. they'll get caught)

ytownfootballWell, not sure if this is "The" Doug Archie but if so I don't know what to think.

Doug Archie Biography

Release: 08/26/2010
Douglas Archie was hired as the associate athletics director for compliance and camps at Ohio State June 12, 2006. Archie most recently was the associate athletics director of compliance at the University of Utah and previously worked seven years for the NCAA.
Archie's responsibilities in the compliance realm include educating the athletics department and university staff, boosters, coaches and student-athletes about NCAA and Big Ten regulations. In addition, he is responsible for overseeing the compliance monitoring systems related to recruiting, certification and eligibility.
After seven years working for the NCAA in enforcement services and as a membership services representative, Archie went to Utah as the director of compliance where he implemented a comprehensive Division I-A compliance education and monitoring program for student-athletes, coaches, administrators and faculty. Prior to his work with the NCAA, he was the assistant athletics director for compliance at the University of North Dakota.
Archie received his bachelor's degree in economics from York University in Toronto in 1989. He then went on to earn his master of science in physical education with a concentration in athletics administration from Ohio University in 1990 and his Juris Doctor from University of Toledo College of Law in 1993.
While at York University, Archie was a member of the 1988 Canadian University National Hockey Championship team. York also won four Ontario University Hockey titles during his career.
Archie and his wife, Beth, have two children. -

FidmeisterI like that he was going to withhold 09 rings from the guys involved until he got more information. Smacks of "You don't piss off Dad."
From the e-mails, it looks like there was a resolution June 6 to the case against this Rife chode? Why not take action against the players then? Am I missing something in the legal translation? -

Forwarding to counsel would be the right thing to do. My point is that if he did send it to counsel, then they definitely did not counsel him properly on how to handle this situation.
As to the emails, I agree they look amateurish. However, at first blush, I get the feeling this is not the first time this two have communicated. JT has either received an email or had a discussion with the individual before . This is not just based on the US Attorney's informal email, but JT's responses to him as well. If you add everything together and you believe JT's account this evening, he was of the belief this individual was someone to be taken seriously enough he was not to share information with anyone, not even Gene Smith, Gordon Gee or another attorney. I doubt Jt would have just responded with a "thanks" and "go bucks" if that is the case. -

Tressel and OSU have been getting hammered from all of the talking heads, which shouldn't come as any surprise.@slmandel Stewart Mandel
Tressel signed an NCAA Certificate of Compliance form on Sept. 13, 2010 indicating he has reported any knowledge of possible violations.

Miami hasn't seen a major NCAA violation since Butch Davis took over. The 1980s want their stereotype back. -
pinstriperIf this Archie guy is the compliance officer, is it possible that JT forwarded the info to him and let him take it from there. Perhaps OSU knew the whole time what was going on and were told by the Feds to keep it shut and the NCAA played along in December. That was all fine and dandy until some reporters dug a little deeper and found these emails and correspondance earlier this year. WHo knows? Worth a theory anyhow.

sherm03After reading the emails, I feel that Tressel is going to get hit hard from the NCAA.
Yes, Tressel received the emails in April and was asked to keep things confidential. I buy that part of his statement.
However, in the email dated June 1st, the attorney writes: "No more names as the federal government appears to have reached a resolution for [redacted] Eddie Riffe." So if the case was done, Tressel should have reported everything he knew as of June 1st. But he did not. When everything broke in December, apparently he was still withholding this information from the NCAA.
I don't think the punishments are done. Things don't look good for Tressel if the NCAA reads things the way I did. -

That's what I'm wondering. Is there some part of the legal stuff we're missing?
The shitbags at the NCAA will not like these e-mails. Doug Archie might want to get his resume updated. -

Im pretty sure they did in the mid 90's when Davis took over because of the coach before him. -
ytownfootballIf the way I'm reading it is correct, then Tressel is taking the fall for Archie.

I thought the investigation didn't wrap up until late last year. That's why the violations weren't made aware to the University until December. I'm getting confused by the time frames. -
OQBCoach will put his sweater vest on and the NCAA will slap him on the wrist and say you know better.....probably suspend him a couple more games to make it 4 total, but nothing more.
The NCAA is a joke anyway.....obviously nobody takes them seriously with everyone getting in some sort of trouble with them. -

Since Butch took over, the program has been clean, yes?
