How Much Trouble Is OSU and Tressel in Now?!

Or if random rich fan who isn't a booster drops 150 grand on a Big Ten title ring because it's worth that much to him?
That's an incredibly slippery slope.
Don't want selling the pants/rings to be an extra bennie, give them to every student on campus. Then, it's nothing special for being on the football team. Problem solved.
Or just recruit more players who understand it's a bad thing to violate NCAA rules they were warned about.
Or quit pretending that these kids are just like the other 50,000, let them make a little money this way without costing the program a dime. -

And a guy who just said a Michigan player deserved a ball thrown at him after the game. -
Cleveland BuckAs I said before, just give the players six figure signing bonuses. Then you have nothing to worry about with the NCAA and they don't have to trade their gold pants for tattoos.

Well shit, let's just make up a scenario where just about ANYTHING that's now okay for players to do is blown up because a player decides to take the big bucks.
It can happen anytime, anywhere by anyone. You can't possibly control everything that goes on.
The NCAA should stick to policing things that give a CLEAR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE to one team over another -- like over signing. Instead, they continuously get involved in piddly crap like this.
To make my case even clearer -- this particular rule wasn't even in effect 10 years ago (or thereabouts). The NCAA is always paranoid that players will get ANYTHING that a regular college player doesn't have or have access to. Which is pathetically stupid, because all college scholarship players already have access to lots of stuff a regular student doesn't.
Yet they keep using that as their benchmark for making these silly rules. -

Where did you hear this?Zoltan;703866 wrote:The good things is OSU seems to have found the email before Yahoo got it. OSU self reported that JT should have caught this during the investigation, but the Yahoo report is making it public before the appeal is over.
There is nothing new here to OSU, but they are being forced to address before they planned. -

While I agree in principle, at the end of the day a rule is a rule. -

Undefeated every year. All he does is win every second.wes_mantooth;703722 wrote:If Tressel was to step down, I wonder if we could get Charlie Sheen? He is available.
bo shemmy3337;703801 wrote:Also the only thing I see happening would be the kids who are already suspended being removed from the team and maybe tress gets a warning. I would let the kids go just because this is clearly not going away until they are gone IMO.
Why would the players be removed from the team? They have already been punished for what they did, these allegations are directed at Tressel and have nothing to do with the players. You're smarter than that, at least I think you are. -
AutomatikA friend in Cbus just texted me and said he just heard on the radio that most believe a suspension for Tress is coming.
per Tim May of the Dispatch -
Fab1bZoltan - where did you hear of an email?? Haven't seen anything of the sort.
-
dlazz10tv says he's (Tressel) getting a 2 game suspension

I would let them go just to get this all out of the way before the season and so no one has to hear about it all year. Just think what the only topic will be after week 5. -

And you don't think it would be the story of the season if they let the players go?? Come on now. -

It'll be discussion all year whether they're there or not, you can bank on it. -

not nearly as much. -

If you want to discuss the ridiculous rules the NCAA has, I'm with ya dude. There are some stupid ones. I was half convinced they'd say the Wake Forest baseball coach violated extra benefit rules for giving a player one of his kidneys. After all, he wouldn't have done it for a biology major.
But, you can't break a rule just because you think it's stupid. -
imex99ok this is from my source
Here it goes:
Tressel is informed in April - Hence the compliance meetings and no further sales of items.
Tressel informs the University compliance office.
Compliance office visits Tattoo parlor.
Feds step in and say you can't say anything - this is an active investigation of the Tattoo parlor owner.
OSU keeps their mouth shut at the direction of the Feds
Feds finish investigation in December. OSU immediately announces what they know.
Quick disposition of punishments and players allowed to play.
Tressel and OSU knew. Unable to say anything because of Feds. Fits timelines.
Quick disposition of punishments and players allowed to play.
(hoping this is the story...)

lhslep134From the Dispatch article it seemed as though Tressel received the info in April from a lawyer, but felt that because it was from a lawyer there really wasn't much to do about it because it was part of an ongoing investigation (or something like that?)

FidmeisterAnd a two-game suspension would be a joke. Doubt they need him for Akron and Toledo.
It has weight if it's the first to Big 10+2 games. Then he'd miss Nebraska. That would make a difference. -

Because that's what would make you happy? -
Def LeopardThe answer to this and the SI cover question, "What are coaches to do"?
Recruit kids with better character. The day coaches threw out heart and character for vertical jump and shuttle time is the day problems with athletes on campus began. Athletes have always been given perks at big time programs, but they were content with that and considered it a priveledge. The kids on campus today have grown up entitled and take that attitude with them to college. They aren't satisfied with a couple hundred a month and a car, nothing is sacred and everything is for sale in the name of cash. -
FidmeisterIf they knew in April, would have been simple to suspend these guys for a violation of team rules. That way, you can say it's anything and never reveal what it was.

That would work haha -
se-alumOSU has been working w/ the NCAA on this violation since January. Yahoo broke nothing new to OSU or NCAA.
