Ohio State 2011 Off-Season Discussion

  • OneBuckeye
Had a bunch of 2011 and 2012 guys at the Miami game. LB recruiting is heating up for 2011.

Regarding 2012. Ball is a buckeye and Brionte Dunn just got an OSU offer. With limited scholarships do we take Russell Shell too if he wants in? Recruiting for 2012 is going to be tough with only 16 or so schollarships available.

Gotta figure by the time 2012 rolls around, they'll have at least 20 available.

Ohio State also offered Kyle Kalis from St Eds
  • OneBuckeye
They also offered Se'Von Pittman DE Mckinley and both junior Hoban DEs. I could see some quick commits to save spots especially on the d line.

Kalis committed to the buckeyes. Great start for 2012, Kalis will be one of the best OL in 2012.

I'm hearing rumors that Jadeveon Clowney has reached out to OSU. . . any confirmation?

I don't have high hopes. He's most likely just trying to pad the offer sheet.
  • dat dude
Clowney has had an OSU offer for quite some time, to my knowledge. He "eliminated" OSU sometime in June/July. However, Clowney recently said he would like to use an official visit on OSU. Probably still a longshot at this point but never say never with recruiting.

Jacoby Boren also got a Offer today...Class of 2012

And here is the interview from today....

Is it possible Ohio State will soon be hitting a Boren-family trifecta? Wednesday afternoon came confirmation that the Buckeyes offered Pickerington Central junior offensive lineman Jacoby Boren, the younger brother of Ohio State stars Zach and Justin Boren.

The younger Boren, 6-foot-2, 270-pounds, was understandably excited to receive his first offer.

"When I came back to school to get ready for practice, my coach told me I had the offer," Boren stated. "I'm very happy, and I'm also surprised, to be honest. This is my first offer, so it's a great feeling. It was an emotional momemt for me."

"I'm going to wait a while and see how things go, but I'm definitely considering it," he continued. "I know they have four commitments already, and that's great for Ohio State. The offer caught me off-guard, but I was hoping it would happen. It would be great to play with Zach again, even though it would only be for one year."

With Justin starring at guard and Zach playing fullback, there is some question over what position Jacoby is being offered to play, but he feels it is on the offensive line.

"I'm not real sure, and I'll check with my coach tonight to see if they told him," he added. "I'm going to guess and say it's to play center, but I really don't know."

With his older brother being touted as an All-American guard, the younger Boren has obviously learned a lot from Justin.

"I've definitely learned a lot from him in terms of technique," Boren explained. "Many times, when I've had a question or a problem, Justin has the answer, because his technique is so sound. He's also a very smart player and he knows how to teach the position."

Pickerington Central is currently in the midst of an undefeated season, and is ranked as one of the top teams in Ohio, with Boren also playing at a high level.

"I think I'm playing pretty well, and our team is doing great," he stressed. "I'm pretty happy with how things have gone this year, but I'm always trying to get better."

5-Star Football Recruit Doran Grant Picks Top 2: Where Does Ohio State Stand?

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/478070-5-star-football-recruit-doran-grant-picks-top-2-where-does-ohio-state-stand

Doran Grant, the top-rated cornerback of the 2011 class, has cut his list of suitors down to eight earlier this month. While he wouldn't reveal his favorites among them at the time, he did so on Thursday.
“Right now Michigan State and Ohio State have a slight lead over the other schools in my list,” Grant said in an interview with Scout.com. “I just feel very comfortable with both schools and really enjoyed visiting their campuses, coaches, and players when I was there for unofficial visits more than the other schools.
    His other finalists include*Michigan, USC,*Georgia Tech,*North Carolina,*Penn State, and*Cincinnati.
Most observers have always expected the Buckeyes would be in the mix up until decision time for the Ohio native, but Michigan States emergence as Grant's second top choice comes as somewhat of a surprise.
Ohio, USC, and North Carolina have been recruiting him the hardest, but when asked about official visits, Ohio State and Michigan were the only schools Grant said he was definitely planning on visiting.
So what have the Spartans done to separate themselves from the pack?
“I also like how Michigan State is recruiting me as an athlete so I could play on both sides of the ball,” Grant said. “If I were to play on offense, I prefer playing at wide receiver. I’m considering them as well because it could definitely get me on the field a lot quicker.”
Grant has previously said that playing time is important to him as well as staying close to home where he has a lot of family and friends.*But he's also looking for the school that will best develop his talents and get him prepared to play at the next level.
Of his top two choices you have to think that Ohio State has the edge based on his requirements. He might get on the field faster at Michigan State, but as far as developing defensive backs goes, the Buckeyes have the edge; plus OSU is the in-state school.
Still, Grant is far from a decision and hasn't even set his official visits yet. All he can say at the moment is that he plans to make trips to Ohio State and Michigan State at some point, but there is no timetable for a commitment.*

you can take that to the bank!

Jacoby Boren, younger brother of Justin and Zach, is expected to commit this week. He will be the 5th commit in the 2012 class.

what position and is he any good or are they trying to appease the pedigree?

I wanna say he's a center, and his brothers have said he's the best of the 3. I'm certainly glad they appeased the pedigree w/ Zach. lol
  • OneBuckeye
He is a center, but with Brian Bobek the number 1 center in the 2011 class coming in a year before him, he will either redshirt and wait his turn or will slide over to guard. He is between zach and justin size wise. If he grew a couple inches taller he will be perfect OL Size

Kenny Hayes (Toledo Whitmer), part of OSU's 2011 class, was named SI.com's high school player of the week. Seems like a great kid.

This is a major loss. I think Tressel and co. really blew it here and gave Martin the shaft. Martin definitely showed flashes of potential and for whatever reason (I know they'll say "depth") he never received his proper share.

There is such a log jam at RB it is nearly unbelievable. Berry and Hall have shown flashes and are highly rated recruits how could martin expect to get carries with 4 guys ahead of him this year and at least 3 guys next year. I agree that enough people don't ge there share. (Hall and Berry this year) Even if we used 3 backs like wisconsin he still wouldn't have gotten carries. It is not a big loss at all. We have Hyde who is the same type of runner if not better. I wish tressell would rotate RBs more (except saine) that is my biggest gripe about the RBs, I want to keep everyone here and happy.

    Herron SR.
    Hall JR
    Berry Soph
    Hyde Soph
    Smith Fresh

Yea, I'm not how Tress plans to keep all these guys here and happy, but I hope he finds a way.

I think Jordan Hall needs to see the field more next year - and this is coming from a staunch Herron supporter.

    Berry JR
    Hyde JR

    Dunn Fresh

Wouldnt Hall be graduated in 2013 and all the rest be a grade higher?

    I meant 2012 my bad

Jordan Hall needs to see the field as much as possible next year. I know Boom will be the starter next year, and rightfully so, but Hall needs to still get some serious touches. In addition to returning kicks and backing up Herron at RB, I'd love to see him get involved in the pass game. I've heard he has some of the best hands on the team and his pass catching ability was something he used a lot in high school. I know his Junior year he had around 700 yards receiving and his senior year he had around 500. With the graduation of Sanzenbacher, perhaps Hall could fill some of that void in the slot.
