Ohio State 2011 Off-Season Discussion

  All we have heard since signing day was how OSU was going to clean up for 2011 ASAP. and it took a month to get anyone to commit besides the 2 DE's early.
  
  Trust me, I am not worried AT ALL. I just find it funny when people freak out. These are kids, who we are wishing that they chose to come to OSU for the next 3-5 years of their life. Pretty big decision. Take your time. I just laugh when people freak out that's all buddy!

  Wow what a weekend. Farris and Bobek are two huge commits. Farris's video is very impressive. Hopefully Bennett follows and we will have all the big ugly recruiting about wrapped up before the spring game.

  I would love to see Harley and Holts get offered in the summer and end up with Bobek, Farris, Carter, Underwood, Walker, Bennett, Holts, and Harley.

  Can I ask why Harley hasn't been offered? Isn't he one of our better DL prospects?

  ^ No one knows why not for sure except the staff.
  
  There is speculation that it might be grades or the weak competition his team plays.
  
  I think the staff is waiting to get him in camp.

  Ok that makes sense...I wasn't sure why. I knew he was a pretty good prospect but was wondering we he didnt have an offer. But I understand those reasons...hope we can target some other solid DL prospects

  Tommy Brown committed yesterday (6-5/300). Lineman from Firestone HS (Akron, OH).

  Brown is a very interesting prospect. Duane Long likes him at DT but OSU wants him at OT. Apparently he is as well built as they come.

  Today the Buckeyes received their eighth commitment in the class on 2011, as offensive lineman Tommy Brown jumped on board . Brown hails from Akron Firestone HS, and had offers from West Virginia, Michigan State, Ball State, Duke, Toledo, and Ohio. At 6-5 300 pounds, he is literally another huge edition to this class. Interesting enough, seven of the eight Buckeye commitments are offensive or defensive lineman.
  
  Tressel and staff appear to be wasting no time making up for their losses in 2010. They went after some of the best linemen in the country a year ago, and would miss out on guys like Seantrel Henderson, Sharrif Floyd, and Chaz Green. In the process the Buckeyes passed on in state prospects Andrew Donnal, Christian Pace, and Skyler Schofner.
  
  If you are like me, you started to wonder what the staff was doing in 2010. The Buckeyes have had poor depth at times in the trenches, especially on the offensive line, and bringing in one offensive lineman didn't seem to make sense at all. Well, I wonder if they knew something about the 2011 class that we didn't. That, or they are just making up for the major debacle from the last class. Regardless, the staff is stock piling some of the best big men the state has to offer.
  
  The two big guys left to reel in are Michael Bennett (Centerville) and Aundrey Walker (Cleveland Glenville). At 6-5 355 pounds, Walker is labeled the most intimidating and gifted lineman in Ohio. Bennett may be the second best lineman in the state behind Walker, and his versatility at either DL or OL makes him very attractive. Landing both of these guys is not out of the question, and doing so would put this class over the top.

  He looks great on film. Can't wait to see him in a Buckeye uniform. Looks like the perfect type for the Star position.
  
  Now, if we can get Tanner, Grant, and another one of the Florida safeties, we will be set with one of every position in the secondary with this class.
  
  We are at 9 overall verbals out of most likely 21-22 spots so 13 more.
  
  I want:
  1 QB - Miller
  1 WR
  2 TE - preferably Koyak and a blocker
  2 OL - Walker and a tackle, would also take Mangiro
  2 DT - looks like Bennett and Hale, would also take McReynolds
  2 LB - DePriest and Shazier most likely, would also take Vaughters
  1 CB - only if it is Grant
  2 S - Tanner and Lyons are my preferences
  
  If Grant or all of the Florida safeties go elsewhere, that opens up a spot for Cordale Jones.

  Interesting that Heuerman is a UM legacy. He had a pretty nice offer listing going there, too. His real strength is supposed to be blocking, so he'll fit right in with a JT offense.

  At 6-5, 217 pounds and possessing a "rifle arm" to go along with 4.5ish speed, quarterback Cardale Jones has started to catch the eyes of recruiting services across the country even as he's started at the varsity level for just one season at Ohio high school power Cleveland Glenville -- the same school that produced Heisman winner Troy Smith , incidentally.
  Bitter rivals Ohio State and Michigan are believed to be two of the top contenders for the soon-to-be-senior's services. As his childhood favorite, the Buckeyes would seem to have the upper hand if they have the inclination to offer him a scholarship, which they haven't as of yet.
  The Wolverines have, and an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor last month has left Jones more open to That School Up North than would seem possible given his rooting interests growing up.
  "We came to the conclusion it would be an easy transition to Michigan," Jones said by way of the Detroit News . "They run the same (offense) we run (at Glenville).
  
  "I like the offense they run. Coach Rich Rodriguez and (quarterbacks) coach Rod Smith are great guys. I think I could fit in well there because they've got some young quarterbacks, so it'll be up in the air. I like the competition. I also like Michigan's tradition and how hard they work over there."
  When it comes down to it, though, it seems as if Jones has his eyes squarely on the Buckeyes. He's visiting Columbus this weekend, and fully expects his wait for an offer to come to an end.
  "I'm actually going down there on Thursday, and I'm actually expecting an offer this weekend," he said. "If not, I'm still going to keep my hopes up for Ohio State and many more schools that could offer. Nothing is a guarantee with me and Ohio State -- or me and any school, actually. Until I take more visits and see how I like the campuses and not just the football team, I won't (make a decision)."
  Another factor in Jones' decision could be the state of the quarterback situations at both schools.
  Terrelle Pryor will be a junior at OSU this year, and could be a candidate for early entry in the 2011 NFL draft. Redshirt freshman Kenny Guiton was a last-minute addition to the Buckeyes' 2009 recruiting class, but had a solid spring which culminated in him throwing the game-winning touchdown in the spring game. The Buckeyes are also chasing hard after Braxton Miller , one of the top QBs in the 2011 class who's received offers from, among others, Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, USC and, yes, Michigan.
  At Michigan, true freshman Devin Gardner seems to be the future at the position; whether that era commences this year or next remains to be seen. Additionally, last year's starter Tate Forcier and his backup Denard Robinson will be entering their sophomore seasons, creating a logjam of young players under center.
