M PlantWCAL has some good young coaches - yeah, i consider West and Nate young - and some outstanding vets like Erich and Mark Jr. ... throw in Shenberger, Milo and ther's a half-dozen solid bench bosses. Dont know Coach Lucey and have only seen Friz coach a few times

Norwayne is still in a funk. Hillsdale played well and got a tough road win. I think Fry had 16 for Norwayne and Licata had 15 or so for Hdale. Norwayne was 7 of 12 on 3's and 10 of 27 on 2's. Lots of missed layups. Fry and Wallace played well for Norwayne. Maxwell swished a 60 footer at the end of the half. Hillsdale took care of the ball and rebounded well.dontcare;1089294 wrote:Anybody got a Norwayne/Hillsdale result? and details? -

I dont think you can put it all on the coach, your players still have to make the shots. We have to many players that miss the easy shot, that is if they even catch the pass. Lay-ups should be high % shots.Bobcat;1089128 wrote:Spoken like a true Daltonite 1486. We have a Dalton grad who takes The favorite to win the league, easily the most athletic team in the league and finishes second. your coach takes an undersized hard working team that isnt even in the leaguue title picture and wins it all. Just because West comes from Dalton that doesnt mean he can coach. Congrats to your coach and your team -
thePITmanWatching the Northwestern/Smithville game on CPI. Terrible reffing both ways.

Havin FunGreat job last night Bears. I see in the paper all scorers were underclassmen. Top scorer Hawkins a sophmore. The next few years are going to be fun.

beverboy1the one thing with this dalton team we don't have to rely on one player to do all the scoring. we have a different player every night ! and we play dam good defense ! not like norwayne with davis and hillsdale with licata

oh yeah!!Is it me or do we all think the grass is greener from the stands? I certainly know that from my experience it is much easier when I sit in the stands and say why does he shoot why is this kid going to the corner and not the middle of the floor? Bottom line they are still teenagers playing and you could have the best coach and the kids do their own thing. Basketball is a long season ruts are common and I would not worry norwayne fans. Best of luck for a tourny run.

bobcat14Went to the Norwayne Wellington game last night.......Wellington has a very good team.....not a good time for Norwayne to go into a slump......It looked like Norwayne was lost they had a hard time running a offense and didnt play defense very well at all......and I think they just got out hustled......I seen them play at the beginning of the year and then last night...2 completley different teams...do you think the loss to Dalton and then the loss to Hillsdale did them in..They are still a real good basketball team but they just looked like a team that doesnt want to play anymore......not a good way to go into the turny.......

kurty66They are definitely different team, bobcat - if you've watched games all year it's obvious. I hate to say that because it feels like I'm denigrating their recent opponents. I didn't see the Wellington game, but I saw that they had 25 turnovers. They also had two different kids lead them in scoring from the night before. They don't get to go into the tournament as the team to beat, like they may have been a few weeks ago. They still have time to turn it around. I'd rather they beat Wellington next game (if there is one) anyway. They have couple of games to get the confidence back.

thePITmanDalton plays at Loudonville tonight. WCAL champ vs MBC champ. After following both leagues this year, I'd say both were pretty strong. This is an interesting game for both. Dalton will need to show us something good tonight to prove to me they have what it takes to compete with and beat VASJ and Richmond Heights. Loudonville, on the other hand, is already in the top tier of contenders for DIII Wooster. A win tonight could solidify their position as an elite team in the district. Sure, Dalton's the #3 seed, but in my opinion, VASJ and Richmond Heights are at a different level. I wish both well tonight and in the tournament. Looking forward to seeing an exciting game this evening!

1486wdPit - this is an interesting game and I wish I could go. Dalton will definitely need to continue building on their momentum to be able to try and take down rh or vasj. This is probably a pickem, maybe a slight edge to the redbirds at home. If anyone would send along some updates, it would be appreciated.

Lets not forget that 4 or 5 kids on the Norwayne roster have been going hard at practice since July-August for football season and played 5 additional weeks of football while others were in the gym. Kids get tired and when their break from football to basketball is just a few days, that means they have been going at it for about 7 straight months (plus keep your grades up)...Its alot to ask of these young men, but that is what its all about.kurty66;1090311 wrote:They are definitely different team, bobcat - if you've watched games all year it's obvious. Norwayne has the big game experience and I think they will be fine in the tourney. -

Norwayne 74 Mapleton 35 on Senior night. Wallace and Maibach missed dunks, but Wallace and Davis hit 3's. -

Way to go Dalton! Loudonville lost to Dalton, Hillsdale and Norwayne by a combined 8 points.1486wd;1092430 wrote:Dalton over loudonville 41-39. -
thePITmanIt was a great game tonight at Loudonville. Very close throughout, with the largest lead probably 7 or 8. Loudonville was REALLY hurt when Mowery got his 4th foul in the middle of the 3rd quarter and sat for probably 6 minutes. Dalton played good defense, though, and plays well, earned the win. They sure tried giving the game away at the end, though! Throwing up off-balance, bad-angle shots when they had the lead under 2 minutes left. I know I'm from Triway, a 4-Corners guy, but how can any coach let his kids do that? Luckily Loudonville missed the 3-pointer at the buzzer that could have won it. Should have never come to that.

dhs22pIt was a nice win for the Dogs tonight. But frankly this is how the Dogs are 18-2. That's how we win games. This was really a great win because you overcame the poor officiating and a team that won their league. And on another note I don't VASJ and Richmond Heights are on another level becuase look at some of their scores recently. Richmond Heights only beat Cuyahoga Heights by 6 at home and to me thats not another level. If Dalton can win the league with no one expecting them they can do the same at Garfield Heights.

Thanks for the correction. It never seemed out of reach, though, especially when Mowery was on the floor, and/or when #35 was hitting.beverboy1;1092504 wrote:at two pt of the gm we had 11 pt lead and lost them both !

I respectfully disagree. I haven't seen Richmond Heights play, and maybe they're not on another level. Just going on 2nd hand comments. But I HAVE seen VASJ play... 3 times. Have you? They manhandled St Peter Chanel (#3 in DIII) on Chanel's home court. Then they "only" lost to St Ignatius by 7. The same Iggy team that beat DI #4 Pickerington Central. A Dalton fan told me tonight that Loudonville was the biggest team you've faced this year. If that's the case, then VASJ will be the biggest... and they'll be the most athletic, and fastest, and by far the best team you've faced.
Don't get me wrong, though. I'm rooting for the Bulldogs and all local teams in the tournament! I just don't see it happening for Dalton. But I hope they prove me wrong! (by the way, refs were equally bad for both teams tonight... Dalton fans calling the ref names when he made bad calls against him, then later when the ref was making bad calls in Dalton's favor, they continued to call him that same name but in a buddy-buddy kind of way). At times I wished I had sat next to the pep band so at least I wouldn't have to listen to the constant bickering. But I did happen to sit beside a nice Dalton lady fan, with whom I chatted a little bit... but after she yelled at the Loudonville student section and called them "cocky" for cheering "I believe that we will win" after the 1st quarter. Ugh... Really? "Cocky"? LoL. But yes, the refs WERE pretty bad.
Anyway, I digress. Good luck to Dalton, and it was a very impressive win tonight! Your defense is what surprised me. Forced Loudonville into tough, contested shots all night, and you worked as a TEAM on offense, just as I had heard and expected. Keep it up!
