1486wdYea another week or two and this thread will be hummin

thePITmanHere are my brief thoughts. I could be WAY off, but who knows!?
- I think Norwayne will be the favorite. Some good size, speed, and athletes that know how to win in any sport.
- Northwestern has the best coach in the league - by far - and that has to count for something.
- Hillsdale has Licata, but they had some big losses from last year's team.
- Smithville will have a few good players, but I think they'll end up being average.
- Dalton needs Moyer to be healthy if they want to have chance at the league championship. Even with him, though, I don't see it happening.
- Waynedale will be better than the bottom feeders. But how much better? I don't know too much about them.
- Rittman has ALWAYS lived and died by the 3, so I don't expect this year to be any different. Combine that with the losses the last few years of some good outside shooters, they'll be very inconsistent, IMO.
- Chipppewa is, well, Chippewa.
-
Mr. Russell1. Norwayne
2. Smithville
3. Hillsdale
4. Chippewa
5. Dalton
6. Northwestern
7. Waynedale
8. Rittman
I think that one through four could flop around. 5-6 could switch. I think Rittman will clearly be at the bottom. -
1486wdi think dalton and northwestern will both be higher. What is moyer's current status?
-
thePITman
My boss has information very close to the source, and he told me today that Moyer should be fine for this coming season. He has already begun running full-go on it and seems to be doing well. In my opinion and experience coming back from a similar injury, you're not 100% until a long while after. And even if you are, sometimes your body is afraid to go 100%. But from the sound of it, Moyer will be healthy for this season.1486wd;968337 wrote:i think dalton and northwestern will both be higher. What is moyer's current status? -
Coach 08Norwayne
Hillsdale
Northwestern
Smithville
Waynedale
Chipps
Dalton
Rittman
I think the top 3 could end up moved around, Rittman will be down, Dalton I could see anywhere from 3-7. Chipps will be little better with a couple of nice players back. I think Waynedale will be solid this year and are on the upswing in the next couple of years. Smithville will be solid a couple of nice players not sure how good there guard play will be. Norwayne, Hillsdale, and Northwestern will all be solid, Northwestern will be young but solid, Hillsdale still have some players and I think Norwayne will be favored. Norwayne will have the athletes but some are not true basketball players, but will be physical as always. Should be fun I think as a whole the county will be down IMO. -
Mr. RussellCoach08 you are right on about nearly all of your points. Just not sure about Northwestern being more talented than Smithville, even Hillsdale too but we will see, thats why they play the games.
1486 what is your order looking like, you're pretty knowledgable. -
1486wdi didn't realize moyer was banged up as much as he was (what was the nature of his injury?) - he will definitley make the differenced from dalton competing for the title or being 6th or 7th, he is simply one of the most talented players in the league - he took over games at times last year, but needs to be more consistent.
With the numbers of players a lot of teams graduated from last year, its a little bit of a crap shoot ranking the the teams right now, but I'll give a guess since that's what we do this time of year.
1)Hillsdale - Licata is very solid, but they won't be as deep as last yr.
2)Norwayne - some size and athleticism and good coaching, but no elite single players.
3)SMithville - Bates is one of the wcl's best hoopsters and Klotzle gives them good size but like Hillsdale, not as deep as in 2010
4)Dalton - Lost a ton, but moyer can be very good. Seth Troyer is steady as well. The rest were jv's last yr (but I think they went 19-1 and do have some talent, they are just unproven at the varsity level).
5)Northwestern - As was said above, best coach in league, some decent size but no mckean means a much different team
6)Waynedale - Just has not been much talent there lately, i do think they will improve with Reibe infusing some energy into the program.
7)CHippewa - again, haven't seen that much young talent to excite me the last few years
8)Rittman - perennial underachiever that lost a lot of it's talent. -
Coach 08You may be right Mr. Russell I could see Smithville being in the top 3 as well, hard to predict when I have not seen any of the teams play. I was told and I may be wrong that Smithville's guard play may be suspect? Northwestern will be young so hard to say but Alberts seems to have his team ready every year.

beverboy1norwayne for 1or2
hillsdale
dalton for 3-5 who wants it more
northwestern
smithville
waynedale
chippewa
rittman -
Mr. RussellCoach08, they definitely will need a few guys step up to play point guard this year. I think they would prefer to move Bates into a scoring roll at a 2 guard or a 3, which means Max Cabahug, Isaac Callendar, Brock Nettleton, and Kenny Larabee will have to be able to handle to ball. That is definitely a question mark, you are right. Hopefully they can step up because Bates as well as Klotzle will be tough for other teams to stop as a combination.
After Licata and Mitch Huffman, I really do not know what Hillsdale has to warrant them ahead of Norwayne right now.
Also, I am telling you guys, Chippewa will not be in the bottom two this season..Jeremy Briggs had a very nice statistical season last year and is back for his senior year. A very smart point guard, mixed with Justin Jenkins, Billy Reeves, and some developing size they will play very hard for Coach Lucey and be in a lot of games.
Dalton has some very good players, I am not ready to put them in the top of the league though. -
Coach 08I agree I think the chipps could get as high as number 3 in the county. I was able to watch a decent amount of WCL games last year including some of the JV game. I think Hillsdale will be solid, there JV was very solid, I know it is JV ball but if a couple of there guys step up they will be solid, I will question if there coach is a good "in game" coach or not. I watched them about 5 times last year and I am not sure if he had total control over them? Maybe he does I just did not see it. If he is not a "in game" coach then Hillsdale may not be in the top 3. Let me clarify what I mean by "in game" coach, a coach that can adjust during a game and at half time on what the opposing team is doing. He had the athletes to do it last year and get away at times without changing much up. But now he does not have quite the studs he did last year so will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.
When I look at Dalton and Northwestern I see 2 quality coaches that usually get the most out of there players. They both lost key players so they will have to get scoring from guys that played JV most of the year last year. If Smithville does get good guard play then they will be pushing for the top 2-3 spots, when I watched them last year they had players that could score but was very up and down at times. When I watched them in the tournament game they did not play very good defense, got beat of the dribble a lot. If that is cleaned up they will be solid. Waynedale I think the last couple of years has been down because they have not had very good basketball players. I think this year they can be solid, I was told they got 2 kids from Kingsway that were brothers (kick's) I was told that they are athletic and will help the team out. But they will be young. I will lean to Norwayne as the favorite just with the athletes but if they make a deep run in football it may take them a while to get it going so that could hurt them. Look at Orrville last year, went to the final four in football and finished with around a 8-12 record? But did get hot over the last 8 games and won districts. Should be interesting this year, good luck to all of them. -
1486wdyou may be right about hillsdale, licata is good but looks a lot less scary without crossen and moore. what was norwayne's record last year?
-
Coach 08Agreed 1486wd, I am not sure on Norwayne's record I am thinking around .500? Mr. Russell any idea?
-
Mr. RussellIf Bryce Maxwell and Nate Davis (who I think has the potential to be the best post player in the league this year) can carry the team until the football players get acclimated, I will say Norwayne goes 14-6.

madman11I've got a feeling it will be a rough year for Rittman. I know summer ball means nothing but I happened to watch them play Norwayne over the summer and they were thoroughly dominated. Have only one player with much size(Boyes) but he is very thin and untested at the varsity level. Heard Dennis ia a pretty good player, but again I heard the same thing when people were talking about him as a quarterback. So for now it looks like they will go as Nick Walls and James Lanz go. Will have a better look at them tomorrow when they scrimmage Central Christian and Black River.
