2010-2011 Orrville Red Rider Basketball

I wouldn't call them down with losses to Northland , Lima Sr. and now Lex, but they don't lose at home very often and Lex was very unhappy with the beat down we gave them :)

Girls win at Hiland this morning. Orrville 59, Fort Loramie 52, 22-9 in the 4th to pull it out.

Great 3 -1 run Riders. Back in it. This weekend will show if we are contenders or pretenders. We're improving every game. I predict two wins this weekend!!! Go Riders!!!
  • RedRider1
^^Seems there's one weekend like this every year....at Wooster and home versus Senior.

Guys have been playing better, Max especially.

Also hearing there's been a roster shuffle.
  • Mr. Russell
Just a side-note with half of the season left. Did anybody see Manchester last night drop 99, granted on C.C. but that is impressive, along with some of their other scores this year. Not sure if they are still in the district, but if so, it is going to be loaded, along with Tuslaw adding 2 guys scoring 15+ a game.
  • RedRider1
I assumed they were back when they put a hurt on Triway, but was told they weren't.

Here's the 14 schools in the Wooster District.

I agree Max has made a difference. He is playing well and needs to continue to find ways to score.

The roster shuffle, is it the kid that left the team last week?
  • RedRider1
    ^^No. Entirely different.
  • OQB
Well, how did we do tonight?

    No Final on WQKT website

Last I heard Wooster was up 10+

60 TO 52 , Not the good guys, the guys in red couldn't shoot layups or pass the ball to the red shirts, sloppy for 3 better in the 4th, missed layups and TURNOVERS :(

    Winters 12 pts
Wasson 6 or 8 and fouled out
Mitchell all over the floor for 11 pts.

    OCC finals

    Wooster 60
    Orrville 52

    Senior 74
    W.Holmes 50

    Lexington 48

    Ashland 59

    OCC standings
    Senior and Lex 6-1
    C.Fork & Madison 4-3
    Orrville 3-4
    Wooster & W.Holmes 2-5
    Ashland 1-6

Ouch, sorry guys. Gotta be honest, never thought I'd see this Wooster team take you guys to the woodshed like last night. Up 23, and then 18 with 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter and putting our bench in. Didn't make this game though, as I was in Cleveland watching Jerry Seinfeld last night. After watching the replay it was obvious that LaLonde was the best player on the court last night however. Seriously guys, what in god's name is going on with your team this year? You beat Lexington, and then lose to Wooster?
  • OQB
We are a team full of bigs and and no guards/shooters. Teams just load the paint up and we can't do anything down low.
  • sman
    Hard to watch
  • Riderwannabe
its time for some of the upper classmen so sit and start getting ready for the future
  • Flash
Not sure who your talking about Rwbe? We need ball handlers and shooters. I don't see anyone strong enough on reserve now to help us. Smith - not a bad shot and has got a lot better, but not strong enough to bang or guard a quick player on the other end. Landis- hustles, but isn't a scoring threat on reserves and may not be strong enough. The coach sees these guys all the time at practice and if he thought they were better then he'd put them in. What we need is a way to score when teams pack it in and double and triple Zack. But I've been gone and missed the last couple of games so I haven't seen them play in the last three.
  • Riderwannabe
the last 2 games were bad.
  • BRF
Everything we've got is big men and "tweeners". We've got to find a ball handler who can dish it inside and shoot the outside jumper. That person right now, is Near, imo (a "tweener" who could be easily molded into a play maker on varsity)...and Mitchell on the side....and keep the front court at Wasson, Winters and Pirman. I think that "The One crowned as the point guard since he was a freshman" thought is over. The thing is, if we get this ship righted, we can again do some serious damage in the tournament....playing schools our own size.
  • Riderwannabe
Ray and Graber are no good, give the spot to landis and live with it.also let Neer and Smith play varsity and sit the rest.
  • ridernation
I did make it to the Wooster game and all I can say is "WOW". I have never seen so many turnovers and most of them were with no pressure on the passer. Bad decision making is hurting this team, the only guards I saw willing to shoot from the outside was Mitchell and Turner. I really liked what I saw in Turner, he hustles can make things happen on defense and did shoot a couple 3's even made 1. Guards need to at least show some attempt at being an offensive threat or nobody is going to guard them and it is 5 on 3 in the paint, with most likely a turnover trying to force it inside. I would assume a healthy Groves might help he has a least shown signs in the past of hitting 3's that might bring the zone out to defend and open up the inside, until then teams are going to pack it inside and make it tough to score points in the paint. As BRF says if we can find 2 or 3 guys who can get hot from outside we can be awful tough come tourney time. League is out of the question now so its time to find the right pieces at guard.
  • OQB
I was very impressed with Neer, when I watched him for the first time against Senior.......played well against a very athetic team. Why not try him out.

Neer's dad is a Northwestern alumni. Enough said.
  • OQB
lol and My dad is a Smithville alumni......what exactly is your point? Was his dad a stud or something?
  • BRF
Here is what I would do in our next game. I would take any combination of two who have been shooting good in practice of Mitchell, Groves, Turner (forgot to mention him previously) and Near (I'm not sold on Landis for varsity yet) and take the ball up court LOOKING TO SHOOT FROM THE OUTSIDE FIRST. Let the 2-3 zone collapse all it wants. Let our "bigs" hustle for the rebounds on any missed shots and muscle them back up (and then hit the FT, too). The bigs would need to forget about posting up for the inside pass, for awhile.

    BRF out!

4RINGZ, I really think you're onto something and I have been thinking it all year....I went through it, believe it or not it does go on haha. I have known that 10th grade class since they were in pre-school and Neer and Lichti are the two best basketball players in that class. Please as another team in the district, play Smith and Landis Varsity....You're telling me Lichti is a good enough athlete to be a QB on a final 4 team, but isnt a better basketball players than Smith and Landis? Unless something miraculous happened over the past year and a half from seeing them play a ton in AAU and summer ball, Neer and Lichti are better.
