If you agree, why haven't you said as much? You're on here every day. Are you afraid you might offend someone with the truth?

My posts about the play of the football and/or basketball team have and always will be what I see happening or "not" happening. Many of you don't agree with many of my comments because they didn't agree with your praise of certain players depending on who that player was/is!

Have any Red Riders went on to score 1,000 in college? Summers didn't, Ray played football and I don't think Marcell Denson did either.

Pretty sure Bobby Knight didn't either at OSU.

There's gotta be one. Maybe Royer at Ashland?

    Yep. http://athletics.ashland.edu//M-Basketball/documents/09-10mensbballrecords.pdf

    Scored 1,061 career points.

    Any others come to mind?
I notice that you're always up-to-date on the progress and accomplishments of many of the Orrville Alumni in athletics...why so late on this accomplishment?

Have any of you been to any of his games in Mt. Vernon? I remember when the football team got together for a trip to Ashland to see Tom Brenner play. It's only .75 to 1.0 hr. away, depending upon weather. This is his last year, don't you think that would be a nice gesture from the school?

He achieved the 1,000 points in early January. I haven't posted anything to my blog since Jan 5th. Mentioned it in the post that went up last night.

Been busy with personal issues, family issues and sick kids....family comes first.

I know that isn't what you wanted to hear, or are trying to make it into....I see right through your tired game.

    series,
I like Mitchell too. I really like TJ and Turner coming off the bench to give us a different (quicker) style. I've always been a Jordan Ray fan, just wish he'd look to penetrate some more....draw that defense in a little.

Hearing that a freshman (guessing Zook or Summers, obviously) will be moving up to JV, so maybe a JV guy will be joining varsity soon? Just thoughts.

Need 2 wins this weekend, badly.
My opinion is that Mitchell (he'll penetrate and shoot), should be starting in lieu of Ray, and Turner (very quick), substituted before Ray.

If Neer is promoted to Varsity, replace him at JV with Graber, who along with Groves offers nothing! I know Groves used to have a good 3-point shot, but that seems to have diminished. Also, his football weight-gain (in the gut???), has slowed him down and tires him out against a running team like Mansfield.

Honestly, since the W-L is in the negative, I would also consider bringing up Sims, there may be some potential there for next year and he can get vertical, (he just needs a good stiff motivational kick!)

Well all-rightie, then. (And don't anybody get all up in arms about the time of this post, as I'm not at work today!)

Series....in regards to your comment about going to see Brandon play at the Naz...

For football, it was the parents that wanted to organize something for the Orrville players and coaches to go see them play (Brenner and Hiller). Coach Davault was just the "coordinator" to go on those trips... don't try to make this into something that isn't true. Coach Short (when he was coach) and now Coach Slaugter could've organized something for the basketball team, but I believe it would've been hard to do because: Orrville plays games on the weekends, practices til 7ish during the week, and the Naz doesn't play on Sundays...so it would've been hard to organize a trip to go down and watch him play that fit both schedules.

    QB,
Lots of good points. Well said.

West Holmes wins tonight in the dungeon. Not sure on final score.
  • RedRider1
WH led by 12 at half....

Heard Landis and Smith (JV only up to this point) saw action in the 1st half.

    Wooster beat Senior tonight.

wow.......orrville is looking like an early exit from tourney.....probably by a wcal team!!!!

79-63 final, , 90 something foul shots in this game. Everyone saw action, even Neer in the 4th qtr with like 5 or 7 points.

65 fouls last night, very long game. Arnold is the top point guard in the league.. he just abused michell and turner last nite. Every time they went for the steal he either scored or drove and dished for an assist.
  • Mr. 300
Arnold is definately the catalyst for WH. He's going to be special in 3 years.

Orrville appears to be a one trick pony. Without Wasson, they got squat. Hard to believe this team is in a funk, but it happens to the best too.

I have been thinking about last year's seniors and how special they were. Of course, we lost the outstanding "game" of Bolyard and his complimentary play both inside and out with Wasson, along with Joey who's scoring, ball handling and penetration were invaluable. Add in the stalwart play of Hoobler, Miller and Corbett. This current situation makes me appreciate them even more. Being that we gelled last year at mid-season and later, I still hold out hope for this year's team. I have some ideas on how to right this ship on offense. Maybe I will post them up later. First, I need to know if WH played a 2-3 zone. That is the point that will be critical to my suggestions.

C'mon hurry up and answer. I also want to know who started for us last night. I need to get this posted before tonight's game in case the coaches are reading! Hahahahaha!

WH played man to man. We got beat by man to man!! That hurts. Starting line Up Zach, Max, Winters, Graber, and Ray. I think Graber fouled out in the 3rd qrt.
  • riders1
66 total fouls, 34 total turnovers = stoppage of play by the officials every 19 seconds. 91 total foul shots = 1 of the longest games I have ever watched, and that doesn't include the fouls they didn't call. #21 was a bulldozer through the lane and didn't get a foul called on him until the 2nd half and ended with 19 pts and I think only 2 fouls called on him. Wasson sat out the 2nd qtr. It was football underneath and touch me it's a foul out front, the officials anticipated a physical game and and called 30 some fouls each half, never letting a game be played, even WKLM announcers commented how it seemed there was a foul called before they could have a forced turnover as W.Holmes seems to do in the past. If we had guard play like that with our bigs who knows ..........
  • Mr. 300
West Holmes just made up for their horrible 2nd half of play on the football field last fall.

Thank you for the info Red Zone. Yes, I am baffled that WH played us man to man. Congrats to them. However my upcoming suggestions can be applied to man-to-man D, too.

I say, we no longer start 3 "bigs". We start Wasson, of course, and either Pirman or Winters, not both. Wasson runs a triangle on O from block to block and up to the foul line. He can shoot 60 plus percent from the foul line. The other "big" goes to the opposite block (just runs the blocks). NOW, we start two guys on the wing that can shoot the J (and I'm not necessarily talking about 3's...just hit a 12-15 shot). I am putting Mitchell and Neer on the wings and choosing Turner at the point. Wing man helps on rebounds from shot opposite side, point and off-wing (shooter) stay back. I think this will help loosen up that zone. As far as man-to-man, I would still try this and see how it works. What else do we have to lose at this point? Bottom line: no more 3 "bigs" in starting line up. Go Riders! I am with ya!

didn't see this kind of season coming for Riders. Big disappointment

Since there is no Woo thread, congrats to the Generals for shocking Senior also. This is a very unpredictable season.

You should start a Wooster thread....not that you're not welcome here, but maybe more Wooster people would post. And congrats on your win. BRF is jealous! ;-)

    Good luck tonight riders .
