Well there are only 4 teams in the wooster sect/dist with winning records so who knows what could happen there.

That's what I'm talkin' about right there.

    Well, well, rider80....which one?
  • OQB
Well what is the news tonight....how'd we play against Ashland?
  • Riderfan
    lost by two
  • CCRolly
Wooster over Madison by two tonight. Sorry...no Wooster thread...LOL.
  • BRF
    We now officially suck.

Still time to turn it around, but geez, really. still SMH after this weekend's action.

WE can't defend. Too, many baseline layups. Not an excuse, because we should have been ahead by ten, but reffing at the end stunk. Mitchell didn't step out even though he was pushed. Have it on a picture if you don't believe it and Wasson was fouled at the end. We did everything we should have(from a coaching stand point) at the end to win the game but didn't get it done. Am I expecting too, much? I agree with BRF, is it too, late? I don't have the answer. In the past years I thought I did, but now I don't. Everyone is trying hard, but it isn't happening. Pirman may be our best outside shooter, that says a lot. Wasson and Pirman with Winters as the sub for them, I'd pick Turner (although he can't defend) and the next two people who will play defense and I'd go down to the freshman level if need be.
  • OQB
And again I SMH in disbelief......unbelievable!

It is NOW time to start bringing up guys from JV and freshman.....I don't care if you have to sit seniors, at this point we have to look on toward the future and that is the younger players. It will give them valuable playing time to go into next year. heck we just got smoked by a freshman point guard from WEST HOLMES.....What in the heck is going on, that should NEVER happen!

Like a few have said, at what point or record is it too late? The Wooster district is way down this year, and anything is possible. I know Coach Slaughter is a great coach, and great motivator but he absolutely hates losing. If we can win games with freshman, than why not bring them up. I think we have gotten a taste of how good the upper classman are at this point in the season. Heck if we can get Neer and Smith 5-6 games on varsity before the tourny, we could surprise some teams I think.

    Food for thought:
With the basketball team this down, does that mean we may see the baseball team in Columbus playing in June? hmmm....Coach Marshall has told me the next few years for Orrville baseball could be special.
  • RedRider1
Can't believe we're about to turn the calendar to February and we only have 4 wins.

Keep waiting for this team to flip the switch, but not sure there's a switch to flip.

Hope they keep plugging away. After 4 straight losses, I hope the guys stay committed to getting better. I'm sure there's plenty of frustration though.

For football, it was the parents that wanted to organize something for the Orrville players and coaches to go see them play (Brenner and Hiller). Coach Davault was just the "coordinator" to go on those trips... don't try to make this into something that isn't true. Coach Short (when he was coach) and now Coach Slaugter could've organized something for the basketball team, but I believe it would've been hard to do because: Orrville plays games on the weekends, practices til 7ish during the week, and the Naz doesn't play on Sundays...so it would've been hard to organize a trip to go down and watch him play that fit both schedules.
Hard, but not impossible...like when so many showed up to see Bolyard play at the C.O.W.

Been busy with personal issues, family issues and sick kids....family comes first.

I know that isn't what you wanted to hear, or are trying to make it into....I see right through your tired game.
I meant posting on here as you always seem to be so timely for many other Orrville alumni events/milestones.
I haven't been on your post.
That you're busy with personal affairs and sick children is understandable, I do realize that those things come first. I simply asked a question, there is no intent to offend you, so don't take it as such.

I never knew anything of an official trip to Wooster to watch him play. Never heard it announced, never saw it in the paper.

I wasn't one of the "so many" who went, doubt anyone here was.

    Brandon has 4 home games left, Feb 5, 12, 15, 19.

Orrville has a game on Feb 5 (Triway), Feb 12 (Northwestern), Feb 19 (at Wadsworth)....so it's impossible for the team to arrange anything other than on Feb 15th....a Tuesday night.

Not saying it can't be done...or shouldn't have been done already....only that asking to do it now is sort of late in the game.

I never said anything about any "official trip" to any games, however, I did hear about Bolyard's game about two weeks prior to when it was scheduled to be played, and obviously, so did many other Red Riders/fans as there were many in the stands.

..."only that asking to do it now is sort of late in the game." I'm not asking to do it now! If you've not done it in 4 years, I know it's not going to happen now!

I've said before, at the beginning of each season all positions should be open to competition. Just because a guy was a good player in the previous season should not guarantee him that spot in the upcoming season. He might get lackadaisical. Nor should being an upperclassmen qualify you!

So it's up to me? I now have to be travel agent?

    Sorry, ain't my job.

What about you? If you want it to happen so bad, why haven't you organized something.

Oh, that's right....it's easier to complain about something and call other people out than it is to be the solution.

Anyone planning a trip to see undefeated Walsh and Kornowski?
  • RedRider1
Watched him AND Brandon Short face each other on STO a few weekends ago.

Does that count....or do I have to travel there in person to get credit?
  • RedRider1
Hate to be off-topic, but how about some love for Coach Alberts and the Lady Riders??

They've won 9 straight (school record is 13), Hannah Plybon should win the OCC player of the year (just a sophomore), and the team is playing some real good basketball. Very consistent effort all year.

Senior night is this Thursday against Clear Fork.

Man, all I did was ask you a question about reporting on a Rider alumnus! Noone asked you to play travel agent or anything else.

You're right, the girls are playing some good ball!

The boys, on the other hand.........NOT!
  • Old Rider
Series...I think the reason Bolyard had such a good following when he played at the COW was due in large part to Daily Record simply making note of it weeks ahead of time. It was the same 4 team invite that they hold every year and they always cover it heavy leading up to and during play. (WQKT). I think had Brandon been playing in the same venue/invite you would have seen just as many Rider fans supporting him IMO.

How often does the Daily Record/WQKT cover MVNC? Unfortunately, never.
  • OQB
Old Rider is absolutely right! Noone from the high school "organized" a trip to see Jake play at the COW.

I for one have seen Brandon play 3 times in person over at Malone....so I am in the clear lol. My sophomore year was interesting...Brandon on MVNU and Don Don on Malone's team.
  • BRF
Noone: I am thinking about a warm vacation spot. Can you arrange that for me? Hahahaha!

Kudos to the girls! Super season, so far!

As for the boys, I am going with a starting line up of: Wasson, Pirman, Mitchell, Neer and Turner (at the point) Winters rotates in and out with the "bigs".
  • OQB
I say BRF just takes over the point....

I tell you what, I was a great point guard back in the day in college intra-murals and later in the Y league! :-)
