Is Homosexuality a Choice or Are You Born That Way?

I've never looked at a good looking guy and thought, you know, I'd like to jump his bones.
Even Mangold?!!!!? -
hizzmutherMy daughter told me her brother was gay when he was like, 5. He told me he was gay when he was like, 14. I don't think, at 14, he had enough information to "choose" that lifestyle, but I do think he had a big enough dose of hormones to be aware of his attractions. There is homosexuality in the animal kingdom (what do you think is meant by "odd duck"???). Also in the animal kingdom, the number of homosexual animals tends to increase with the population -- thus decreasing the number of births slightly. Do we think ducks are capable of making this kind of "choice".
I have also known some completely "out" seventh grade boys and what are they, like 13 years old. I don't think most of them made a "choice". The only choice I think they make is how soon to act on the urges.
As parents, we just don't know what to do with this. He is now 18. However, I am proud that he had the courage to recognize and accept who he is and not feel the need to hide it (even tho I just wish it was still hidden from us). -

You were aware that a lot of people are going to pick apart this statement right? Loljustincredible wrote: I didn't choose to be a heterosexual, I just am. I didn't choose to be attracted to women, I just was.

I don't know, I guess I just have too many gay friends who have been put through hell for being gay. I just can't imagine them choosing the lifestyle.
Of course, I did choose to be a Jets fan which has made my life hell so I dunno... -
pmoney25So a question to those who think it is choice. Do you think it is natural to be straight and that is the way you are born that Gay people constantly hold back their desire to be with the opposite sex? So when a Gay man sees a hot women walk by, he is really thinking " Man she is hot but I better keep choosing to sleep with men because I want to be different."
Anyone who I know who is gay has always told me that they have never felt attracted or drawn to the opposite sex, moreso they say they actually are turned off/disgusted at the thought of being with the Opposite sex much the same way that Straight people are turned off/disgusted by being gay.
So either gay people have the strongest wills in the world to deny their natural state of being straight or they are born that way.
I just never remember sitting around thinking this
Path A: Leads to a normal life, wife, family, kids, being accepted by everyone , all benefits entitled to being straight
Path B: Leads to ridicule, hate, embarassment, unequal rights and a life where people constantly think you are not "normal" and somehow do not deserve to be treated as equal to everyone else.
I can definiately see why people would choose path b. -

I don't think the vast majority of pedophiles choose to be attracted to young children. Most likely they have something biologically different than those of us who are attracted to adults. I don't think it is a learned behavior.GoChiefs wrote: How would I know why anyone would choose to be gay? Why would anyone choose to be a rapist, a pedophile, a drug addict, or a murderer? And that's great..but we aren't in Greece or Rome.
Rapists, murderers, and drug addicts can all be a product of their environment. Obviously some people are born biologically different giving them a different set of morals, or lack thereof, but this can be a learned action.

Also, why would god put a man's G-spot in our anus? Seems like the gays are the ones who have it right. -

So now your born a pedophile too? And yes..I agree...rapists, etc can be a product of their environment. And it very well could be a learned action..in the same token..so can being gay. So again..that would be making a choice.eersandbeers wrote: I don't think the vast majority of pedophiles choose to be attracted to young children. AppleThe male G-spot is in the anus?
That's a new one for me. Not genitalia located????... -

Yes, a person can be born biologically different that allows them to have attraction to children. In the old days it was likely a combination of the two as marrying 12, 13, or 14 year olds was quite common, but that is not the case today.GoChiefs wrote:

I'm not saying all gays are born gay. True some people probably just choose to be gay. Just like some choose to be bi. But the vast majority did not make a conscious choice to be attracted to the same sex.
The male g-spot is your prostate. Which is why so many men are willing to take a finger up the dirt star.Apple wrote: The male G-spot is in the anus?

You are definitely entitled to your opinion on the subject.eersandbeers wrote: I'm not saying all gays are born gay. True some people probably just choose to be gay. Just like some choose to be bi. But the vast majority did not make a conscious choice to be attracted to the same sex. -

I find it somewhat hypocritcal that in the "obese" thread you said you know more about obesity because you are fat, but the vast majority of gays who say they didn't choose to be attracted to the same sex don't know more than you.
In fact, these were your exact words....

Well as a matter of fact it does make me more of an expert. If you haven't lived the life..you know absolutely nothing about it.
Take some of your own advice maybe? -
GoChiefsAnd once again..as I said over there..I don't care if you think it's hypocritical or not. You have your opinions..and I have mine. And you are entitled to that..I'm not going to change your views...just like you are not going to change mine. I mean..hey..I could still think that 'all fags should die'...at least I changed my views on that one. Lol

TiernanTo each his own. I wish people would quit worrying about who somebody else is f**king. Most of us have enough problems finding, maintaining and nurturing our own sexual activity without having to give thought to somebody else's tales of woe. Whether its biological or choice, it shouldn't make one damn difference to anybody that is not partaking in that style of sex.
Now that being said...Wes Mantooth is definitely gay for closing down my thread yesterday because I poked fun at his little ND butt - buddies. -

dtdtimI actually think it isn't something you are born with. I also don't think it is a choice either. I think the groundwork for your sexual orientation is laid at a VERY young age, when your mind is just beginning to develop and form your opinions yet you are not yet mature enough to understand what those choices mean.
My cousin grew up in a house with a mother, 3 straight sisters, and a father that was hardly ever there and that he doesn't really have a close relationship with. His life was pretty much shaped and influenced by his mother and sisters. He is gay, and I think it has to do with the fact that he was raised by primarily straight women who would talk about, look at, and discuss men. There is not a doubt in my mind that his choice to be gay or straight was made long before he could consciously make it himself.
He can't help the fact that he is gay but he also knows growing up how did (which wasn't the 'wrong' way to be raised, ftr) was more than likely the primary factor in developing his psyche. I'd imagine he's not alone in that and that many others that identify as homosexual would share a like experience.
So you've basically admitted and established that you are a hypocrite, yet don't care.GoChiefs wrote: And once again..as I said over there..I don't care if you think it's hypocritical or not. Where did I say I was a hypocrite? I didn't..you did. I guess I lose credibility to YOU. Which..again..I'm not going to lose sleep over. I explained my thoughts..and there is absolutely nothing hypocritical about it. Whether you want to accept that is up to you.dtdtim wrote: So you've basically admitted and established that you are a hypocrite, yet don't care.

Let's rehash the situation.
A. There are many gay people that would say it is not a choice they made and, being gay, are an expert on the situation and would know better than you because you are not gay.
B. On the obesity topic you say you know more about the subject because you are.
C. On this topic you refuse to believe the view point of a majority of gay people (who would be the experts making your alleged 'choice') because you disagree with it.
D. You then proceed to say that it doesn't matter what they say your opinion will not change even though those that are actually gay have a differing opinion of their lifestyle than you do. You also proceed to say 'I don't care if you think it's hypocritical or not'.
Just because you don't think you're being a hypocrite doesn't mean you aren't one.
