Is Homosexuality a Choice or Are You Born That Way?

I made no choice whatsoever. My attraction to women comes very strongly and very naturally. It is not a choice I ever had to consider or make. You are confusing a lack of interest with a conscious decision to make a choice. As I said, unless you have latent homosexual or bisexual tendencies, then you were never confronted with any choice, therefore no conscious choice was made.

Bringing some science in on this (what an absolutely revolutionary idea!)
    http://www.thetech.org/genetics/ask.php?id=155

It appears there is at least a genetic tendency toward homosexuality....that may be triggered by environmental factors that occur within the womb. One thing that appears to be almost certain...once you are orientated...it is rare to 'convert'.
In the same way that hetrosexuals find same gender sex unappealing...homosexuals apparently feel the same way.

Bringing facts into any huddle discussion generally ruins it. LOL

You weren't? Really? I don't think my preferences have ever changed from the earliest I can remember. Attraction is an unconscious physical reaction. Therefore, being attracted to someone is not a choice we have control over.

    lol this.

No one's saying that gay people HAVE to act on their desires, just as straight people don't HAVE to.

But I don't remember sitting down with my pro's and con's list of being straight or gay. I remember starting to develop a desire to have sex with women, not knowing why, just knowing it was something I'd like to do. I would also rather gouge my eyes out than have sex with men for the rest of my life. There was never any semblance of a choice, just an innate desire/distaste. I've never heard of anyone, gay or straight, who experienced anything different.

edit: HitsRus posts above mine sums it up pretty well, with actual scientific backing.

    Born.

The correct answer is both. There is a genetic predisposition to sexual preference but you have to act upon them.

I ask everyone who choose choice that is heterosexual. At what age did you choose to be heterosexual?

That implies you are indeed attracted to the same sex and had to CHOOSE the opposite sex.

That shows clearly that it is not choice then. Because Hetero or homosexualty are sexual preferences.

There is genetic predisposition to sexual preference. The answer to the OP is both.

So how hard was it to overcome your desire to be with the same sex? Obviously you were attracted or a choice would not have had to be made?

I made no choice my genetic predisposition never made me yearn to be with the same sex. Exactly the same as some homosexuals.

    I'm agreeing with you

I used to agree with the whole 'born' thing. Until an old friend of mine was screwed over by a couple of women...then he decided...fuck it...women cause too much drama...and he has never dated a woman since. He made that choice. Since then..my opinion on the topic changed.

Your friend was gay from the start, which probably contributed to his problems with women lol.

Glad you mentioned that. I told a few people that I personally feel that the majority of women, who go gay, do so because of their bad experiences with guys. I also feel that some guys may go gay due to the pressure of being a man. A lot of men in society feels that women have it easier.

I would say bisexual he is attracted to both. Most people I know do not have sex with something they do not find attractive.

Right..b/c IMO..you are born hetero..so therefor..like most..you don't have a need or reason to consider a choice. But some..for some reason unknown..they are confronted with the decision to make a choice. Has nothing to do with whether or not you have homo or bi tendencies. Some come across the path in life where they make a choice..where some..never do question whether or not they are hetero...so..you have no reason to need to make a choice. I mean..we as straight males are not going to come to an agreement when even the gay community can't even come to an agreement on this topic!

But we all agree on this...............Two men together=Bad..........Two women together=Good!!!

I know longer speak with him..but from mutual friends of ours. After making the choice to be with another man..he no longer has any attraction to females. He will flat out tell you he's gay..not bisexual.
