  Ugh. I am not going to say that I "regret" reading your TLR post. It was mostly true and accurate, but is largely irrelevant to the point I have been trying to make.
  
  The first statement of both of our latest posts is true...Businesses have the right to make decisions concerning their business and employee conduct. 1st amendment rights do not apply here. ( I assume you agree with that).
  
  The second part of my statement is an opinion based on 35 years of business experience. This is a proper forum for opinions.
  The second part of your statement is a speculation that is probably partially true in that the NFL has people looking in to this...but not because of any sense of it being "lucrative", but because it has become a public relations problem. I base my "opinion" of the second part of your statement on a general business precept that it is not "lucrative" to piss off even a small part of your customer base.....and it is pretty obvious, that for whatever reason, they have.
  
  Let me continue to further explain my opinion why they made a mistake in handling this...from my business experience and general business precepts.
  1) Never allow politics to enter the workplace unless it is directly related or affects your business AT LEAST indirectly. I would have thought this to be self obvious. I have two personal experiences that illustrate this...I won't TL/DR you with the details, but one involved political signage that I allowed on my property, and another just recently involving an employee being overheard by a client talking about her daughter attending a Trump rally. :O
  
  2) When it comes to dealing with employees, if you give an inch, you can expect them to take a mile.
  3) What you allow...will continue...and then becomes precedent...and then becomes an unwritten policy.
  
  You are entirely correct in stating NFL owners can run their business how they see fit, but I am of the opinion that despite what they say or do at this point, they probably regret their original lack of action in this regard.

     They've been peaceful.
     They've been still.
     They've been quiet.
     They've been unobstructive.
     They've put themselves in a position where people aren't ignoring them.
     
     That's about as good as it gets in terms of a protest. I mean, if you prefer that they protest a societal or widespread issue in a manner that doesn't upset your delicate sensibilities or force you to acknowledge it, then I'm not sure you know how protests work, but if that's the case, I'd encourage you to take this one as a win.

  
  Probably because they are effectively aiming their protest at the flag (despite what they or their sympathizers say). If they are mad that a couple of potentially questionable police arrests resulted in injury to a black person, there are myriad ways of raising awareness with respect thereto, in peaceful manners, that would be specifically targeted at the issue they claim to be protesting, and result in a more effective protest. Instead, doing what they are doing is having the effect of furthering the divide, to the point no one wants to even discuss the real issue.
  
  My guess is they know they screwed up, and they can fix it. Act like you want to be part of the U.S., and work within all the available pathways to effect the change you desire. The flag represents all the avenues at your disposal to protect your liberty; use it, don't piss on it.

  Perhaps a good middle ground is for the NFL to stop selling their patriotism for money, and get back to keeping the teams in the locker room until it's time to play. Nothing to protest here.

  ^^^ That’s one solution. Another would not to play the anthem at all, in defiance of tradition and surrender to the America haters. Or they could require their employees to stand “ in rememberance of those who sacrificed their lives in pursuit of the high ideals our nation strives for.”... but that would assume everyone is grateful, which clearly is not the case.

  To be fair, he gives a significant amount of his time and money to the cause. Safe to say he actually DOES a hell of a lot more than most of the guys taking a knee.
