Now, what about merit raises for police & fire? How many burning buildings they enter or how many speeding tickets, DUI, drug busts they get in a month?

Wow. You people just don't get it.

I think you're really overinflating the coaching salaries.

Writer, learning has nothing to do with it. It's an extra job not part of your regular duties. You are compensated extra and separately. The end.

    Another example?

Teacher A is a 6th grade math teacher and makes $50k.
Teacher B is also a 6th grade math teacher and makes $50k.
Teacher B is also the Head Varsity Football coach for $10k, Varsity track coach for $8k, and Junior Class Advisor for $3k.

Who has the higher TEACHER salary?

I'm sure there was a time when all of those "extra" things were included in a teacher's salary, and it was probably through the unions that they got "separated" for extra pay.

As for your last comment: Not everywhere, and not even in every public sector job. I did plenty of things in my jobs in the private sector that weren't technically part of my job duties, but I did it to help out co-workers, the company or both. It was part of being a team player.

Union members don't know what that even means. If it doesn't begin with the letter "I" it's not worth worrying about.

The real question is, are teachers this ignorant, or are they just protecting their outrageous compensation package? If its the former, GTFO; if its the latter, selfish POS.

This I agree with. It's not just the teachers. I hear fire and police saying the same thing. Ignorance at it's finest.

I'm specifically referring to supplemental contracts for teachers. Nothing else.

I think you need to look outside your district. Our football coach makes about $5k or so. But big Div 1 schools; you'd shit your pants.

I hope every single public employee strikes and marches right to the door of Kasich's office and break the fucking thing down

Most ignorant post award goes to Gibby, regardless of what side of the fence you're on.
  • Ty Webb
Why.....because it's bullshit that Kasich is doing something that will cost money
  • bigkahuna
Strike? Yes. Protest? Yes. "Let's go break down the door of the governor's mansion!" NO.

Actually the Senate passed this bill...a senate that under represented the public if you ask me...should've been way more than 1 vote

    basesloaded......

You do realize that a majority of people support collective bargaining for public employees right?
  • LJ
Why anyone thinks its ok for workers to strike against the taxpayers is beyond me

I wasnt referring to the manison(I don't even think he lives there),I was referring to his office at the state house

More ignorance. No one said this would balance the budget. It is merely one small part to fiscal responsibility.

I also don't know why you all are crying. The added back in CBA for wages. So this bill lost a lot of it's balls anyway.

But they took away their RIGHT to strike if they feel need be

You all like to run your mouths about having rights taken away from the federal government, but yet you support a bill that does the exact thing you like to say president Obama does

Well, as long as the tests measure, you know, what we actually want them to know, then I think teaching to the test is a pretty good idea.

You just made all of that up.

Nowhere in this bill does it say anything about more standardized testing or teaching to the test.

Maybe if the teachers stopped bitching and designed what they believe to be a fair way to evaluate performance we won't run into these problems.
  • ptown_trojans_1
ok, what do school districts do now?
What do other government agencies do now?
Also, what is the timeframe for implementation?
  • I Wear Pants
Yeah, and if you think schools don't teach to the test already I don't believe you're a teacher or you don't teach in a grade that has a test. The entire sophomore year right now is basically OGT prep which is insane because that test is incredibly easy.

are you saying that people used to coach for free and that unions made them start paying for it....SMH dude i bet 99 percent of teachers do more outside of their scope of pay everyday than you do in a year..."plenty of things" gtfo...."team player" stop acting like private sector are a bunch of saints who work for free get off your high horse....no one was discussing what people do for free. if that was the discussion teachers would win everytime flat out...teachers are all about I? are you serious? no one believes that.

and dont act like private sector employees dont try to get paid as much as they can whenever they can. man this thread is so hypocritical...when did teachers start getting overpaid? ive been teaching 15 years and never heard a word about it. our district has not raised the pay more than cost of living since i started which translates into one percent raises every 4 years. i started in 97 it wasnt too much then...wasnt to much in 98 or 99 or 2000 or 01 02 03 04...so when was it? now we're a bunch of greedy people who gouge the public and make states go bankrupt? come on man! this is brand new player. fact is most people have felt we have been paid fairly and our pay hasnt significantly changed in many years. most people thank us and respect us and appreciate what we do. before i became a teacher thats how i felt about my teachers as do many people i know.
