Wayne County area Wrestling 2009-10

  • swinginahammer
After looking at the Mat Marks in the paper this week this could be one of the best county showings in a long time there is the potential for some of the dark horses to get their stride and upset some people who have been favored. There is not alot of difference in some of these records if everyone wrestled the same amount of matches. Seating and draws will make the difference in alot of the 3/4 matches. Sectionals will definately be a meat grinder and I agree with everyone else on the fact that if you make it out of our sectional you have the best shot of going to Columbus. What a talented group of young men we have representing Wayne County this year.

I'm very tenative when it comes to looking at mat marks. This should be one of the best groups overall top to bottom. But when it comes down to it... I'm taking the Waynedale/Nwestern kids over others becasue of their schedules. Until some of these other teams really start to schedule battles week in and week out with a lay off here and there instead of every few weeks a battle. I'm picking those kids in the "swing/tight" matches. I will say Chippewa has been stepping up their schedule along with Norwayne and Smithville but it's just not enough yet to sway my opinion on the close matches.

For you Wayne county teams this tournament is very close to wrestling in your sectional tournament which I would think has its plus and minuses. Its diffenatly a good tournament for the other sectional teams to come scout that arn't in it. Wayne county fans still impress me as some of the best in Ohio.Who are the top 5 140's at county ? The young Stanley Has looked stronger as the year has gone , the other 4?
  • mt1514
Martin from Smithville at 140. Kid is wrestling much better, he came over from Fairless last fall. He is a sophmore, also placed 5th at jr. high state as a 8th grader at 132. Had some tough family issues and kind of went in the tank for awile

    WCAL 140LBS
    1.Stanley (9th)-Waynedale
    2.Heldenbrand (10 or 11?)-Hillsdale
    3.Bramley (11th)-Chippewa
    4.Martin (10th)-Smithville
    5.Johnson (11th)-Dalton
    6.Reed (9th)-Norwayne
7.Adamson (9th)-Nwn? (Logan Hersheys old spot)
Full class at WCAL & no heavy favorite. That's the main reason I called it the deepest. I feel comfortable with ranking the top 3, not so sure about spots 4 through 7.

What time is the finals and where?
  • mt1514
Norwayne hosts the WCAL. Not sure what time finals will be.

    Sectional Predictions:

    103--1st Fergusson(Man)|2nd Powell(Tus)|3rd Britton(Nor)|4th Coblentz(Way)
*Fergusson is the definate favorite, but not sure how good Powell is seeing he finally made weight. Britton should handle Coblentz for 3rd.

    112--1st Sprang(Lou)|2nd Grier(Nor)|3rd Harter(Way)|4th Tanner(Smi)/Perez(Tus)/Hamm(Tri)
*This will be an exciting weight at sectionals. The only thing I am sure about in this prediction is Sprang winning.

    119--1st Nelson(Tus)|2nd Fortune(Nwn)|3rd Nigh(Tri)|4th Burge(Nor)
*Nelson should get 1st, but Fortune may put up a good fight. I also think Nigh will upset Burge.

    125--1st Kapper(Man)|2nd Moore(Nor)|3rd Byler(Tri)|4th Dupont(Nwn)/Loundenville(Dont know name)
*Kapper is definately the favorite in this weight class. Should be fairly close between the rest.

    130--1st Brown(Man)|2nd Widder(Way)|3rd Bouman(Nor)|4th Wade(Tri)
*This will be an interresting finals match to watch with 9th in state Brown and 14th Widder. It will be very close.

    135--1st Petersheim(Way)|2nd Vogelhuber(Dal)| 3rd East(Nwn)|4th Logan(Tus)?
*Petersheim should win handily seeing as Nelson decided to go 140. If Logan is able to drop from 140 he should get 4th but idk if he can.

    140--1st Nelson(Tus)|2nd Hershey(Nwn)|3rd Stanley(Way)|4th Myers(Orr)
*With Nelson at 140 now he should be able to win this weight class.

    152--1st Drake(Tri)|2nd Beam(Way)|3rd Black(Nwn)|4th I have no clue
*Drake vs. Beam will be VERY close, but i think Drake will win due to exeriance, but again it will be VERY close

    160--1st Raber(Orr)|2nd Hall(Chi)|3rd Bender(Lou)|4th Mann(Tus)
*This will be an amazing finals match to watch. Raber being a state runner-up makes me put him 1st but Hall could produce an upset. Bender, I believe, will upset Mann also.

    171--1st Reminaric(Tus)|2nd Hunter(Man)|3rd Siegal (Way)|4th Tuttle(Lou)/Fortune(Nwn)
*Hunter and Reminaric should be a good match up. Not sure whether Tuttle or Fortune will get 4th. Not even sure if Fortune is injured or not.

    189--1st Beam(Way)|2nd Schaefer(Nwn)|3rd Weber(Lou)|4th Eisenhauer(Chi)
*This WILL be the best match to watch at sectionals! Even though Schaefer is ranked 1st in the Breakeman I truly believe Jon Beam is the better wrestler and will win.

    215--1st Schafrath(Chi)|2nd Allerding(Lou)|3rd Mullins(Way)|4th White(Map)/Black River?
*Schafrath should handle Allerding while Mullins should take 3rd and defeat either White or a black river 215 who I do not know the name of.

    285--1st Kelly (Man)|2nd Richards(Nor)|3rd Flinner(Tri)|4th Reusser(Orr)/Gove(Way)
*Kelly should easily take this weight class. Flinner and Richards should have a close match. Also, either Gove or Reusser should get 4th depending on who shows up to wrestle.

Solid & interesting take on sectionals....I agree with about 85-90% of your projected placers, just in a different order. Nice job.

    just a few random thoughts,
140-Logan Hershey is out for the season
    145 weight class?
171-Hasn't Siegel already beaten Remenaric twice this year?
215-kid from Black River is Nate Orrick
HWT-Don't forget Mapleton 275 Jacob Martin is 25-0.

Heavyweight should be an interesting class this year. I am very interested in the team race. There are four teams that wouldnt surprise me if they won the sectional.
  • zoocrew
I thought that Hunter from Man. did not wrestle this year. The Mapleton HW is good but I don't think they have a very tough schedule.

Hunter has not wrestled this year he quit. I find it interesting that he can be ranked when he never even certified this year.
  • zoocrew
I have not seen Boumans name in the box scores lately. Is he hurt/quit or whats up?
  • wrestle2win
bouman was out with a injury he will be practiceing all week and will wrestle at county

Who is wrestling 171 for Manchester?

I heard Hunter quit, but I heard he is now back. So I put him in based on what I heard. LOL and I completely forgot about 145. I would expect Topp to win.

Ran a few #'s for county next week because I'm a geek. Purely based on placement points I have the following results:

    1: Waynedale 164
    2: Northwestern 132
    3: Norwayne 96

Sad to say it looks like the finals will once again look like Waynedale vs the WCAL All Stars (unless you're a Bear fan). Factoring in all the bonus pts it'll be another 200+ performance for the Bears. Saddest part is that the Bobcats will have the most champs & finish third.

I think the best county finals match will be at 112 between Grier and Harter. If Grier stays healthy he will take it... Does anyone have thoughts on this match???
  • wrestle2win
rumor has it that chippewa may be done for the season because of haveing too many points on there schedule this means they will not be at county or sentionals .... this would be a horrible way for there season to end exspecially for senior justin schaftraf who i has only 1 loss and should place top 4 at state and for jr bryce.hall who also should be a state placer

Sectionals doesn't count towards your point total. The state would have to sanction them for them not to wrestle in that. Also I saw where they did have 20 without county entered...(estimated by looking at dates). But the Loudonville tourney is canceled now so they're in the clear for that.
  • underoverthrow
If the Chipps miss Loudonville, then is all set right with their point dilema?

Frank errr umm Tank2009: Grier has the mental edge over Harter. They've been facing each other since youth. All that being said Harter will never back down or give up. What I am saying is Grier will be going in with a lot of confidence. It'll be on of those matches that look close in the paper but will come down to one decisive moment.

Ya. I've looked at it a couple times and keep coming up with the same numbers. Loudonville is canceled so all is good.... But yes... potentially if they would not have picked up on that and wrestled in everything that is listed on the schools website they would not have been able to wrestle at county.... WHEW!!! It's weird that this was just now picked up... Someone messed up somewhere obviously.

Tanner from Smithville hurt his elbow in a match Friday night with Wellington, looked like he dislocated it, was in alot of pain and it looked nasty. Kid has really worked hard, sad to see him go out this way.
  • OSU_09
Grier and Harter both tough wrestlers. I think Grier comes out on top with a big win over Harter. Grier will be in front of a lot of his fans at his own High school... Anyone else have thoghts on this 112 lb matchup???

I would not be surprised if Harter won. Grier has been out a lot this year, and it will be interesting to see how that effects him. Plus after seeing that Harter only lost to Goeble 1-0 that definatly says how far he has come since the last time they have faced.
