Just read that the rest of the deal is a RHP and player to be named later.
For now, Perez and Haase are 1-2.

Anybody have insights as to why Gomes?
Supposedly the outfielder was a pretty high ranking prospect in their system. Good arm and fast but hitting is the issue. I read that Gomes was pretty expensive for the next two years and he’s inconsistent from year to year so his best value was a trade asset right now. They must think Perez and haase can handle it.

That's what I was thinking.
A little thin there, IMO.
They must think Haase can handle it...cause Perez can barely handle backup duties.
If Perez is the everyday catcher the over/under on ground outs to second is 150 for the year.
Little surprised to see they re-signed Carrasco, long-term, for what looks like a home town discount.
Not all that surprised with the signing. 4 years at a good price around $40 mil, roughly $10 mil a year. I'm okay with that.
I'm surprised with the value they got. If he hits the open market he could probably get $20 mill/yr.
Two thumbs up on Carrasco, but I’m still miffed at the Gomes deal. Gomes was arguably the best catcher in the AL last year ... 2.2 WAR. For sure the best defensive catcher who shut down anybody’s running game. I’d have liked this deal a little better if Mejia was still in the system and you are clearing a spot. But an unproven “ highly regarded” minor league outfielder and a bullpen addition?
it was interesting to read some of the Nats threads where they are lauding their GM for securing an All Star catcher without giving up much value off the farm.
Yeah, I’m not seeing how this makes the team better now or in the future. The only “hope” I have on the this trade is that the PTBNL is a pick of one of their top prospects.
Sounds like Bauer is most likely to be moved now. He was interviewed on MLB radio recently and said he expects to be traded while they can get value in return.
Analysis of the Tribe/Carrasco extension seems to indicate that it’s likely theTribe will move Bauer or Kluber for young cheap pitching or outfield prospects. 😕
I find this all very disgusting.
The only good part to me is the Carrasco signing.

I’m not seeing how trading all star catching and pitching for prospects helps your team win now. I get the “”extending the window” bit,...but is your goal to win the series or just to make the playoffs and take an early exit year after year?
I feel like the goal is to just win the shitty division and hope the team is hot for the playoffs.
We saw how well that worked this last season.
I think their window was 2016 when they snuck up on everybody.
It seems like the plan is just to stay as cheap as possible (because we are going to win the division anyway)...and then tweak the team in July when we find out what we need.
Yeah, that worked really well.
Yep,win a crappy division and hope for the perfect storm during the playoffs.

Odds are Kluber will be gone before Friday.... I’m gonna hate this on general principles.

Trading Kluber is the right move. Despite what people want to believe.
