I like your guesses better.

Seaver feels like a slam dunk.  I feel like Perry might have been the one to be right behind Johnson to end up being the third one to surpass him, as I believe his performance went into the shitter the last few years of his career (particularly because I'm sure they were watching him for spitters).

Carlton was just my subjective opinion on the best of the rest of the ones I knew were at the end of their career around that time.

Nolan Ryan
Steve Carlton
Gaylord Perry

My first guess was Steve Carlton (and I only know this from when he was an Indian) and then Gaylord Perry. I don’t know the 3rd one.

edit: wait I change a guess to Bert Blyleven instead of Gaylord. I don’t think Gaylord, although great, was not in the SO.

I’m guessing Nolan Ryan is out given those parameters.

Jim Palmer
Tom Seaver
 Bert Blyleven

Nolan was the 2nd guy who had 2909 and got passed in 1983 after he passed Johnson....regained it in 1985 and never looked back

I'm guessing Tom Seaver, Steve Carlton, and Gaylord Perry.

Carlton was the guy who rallied from 2685 and struck out over 270 2 straight years and passed Ryan and Johnson in 1983....held it until 1985

Gaylord Perry was the one who after 1979 looked like he was going to be the one to catch Johnson first but he was 39 and dwindled as expected.

I somehow don’t have that card but have 3 just like it with Yastrzemski, Bench and Perry as they all retired that year.

Tremendous find...funny enough I didn’t use that card and researched it all on my own

Question #5

These two HOFers were great great hitters but for whatever reasons were left in the minors way too long even though they were tearing up the minors...these two guys totaled over 1400 career hits in the minors and both also missed out on a lot more hits over 2 strike shortened seasons.

Name these 2 HOF hitters

Larry Walker?

This is tough. I'm assuming 94-95 for the two strike shortened years?

And given the criteria, we're looking for 2 HOFers with about 2000 career hits?

Trying to think of HOFers from that era. Who weren’t singles hitters. Thome, Griffey came up too early.

I'll guess Chipper Jones and Vladimer Guerrero.

Of course, 5,200 combined hits means one of them was a more average type guy. Wade Boggs? He came up at 25 I think. Which is nuts he got to 3,000 starting so late and missing parts of 2 seasons.

Boggs seems like a great guess if he was 25 when he came up.

Didn’t chipper debut at like 20? Vladdy could be a good guess. No clue how old he was.
