I was playing Army golf.

I just now saw this. Ha ha!

Left right left right

And, yes, avoid the hero shot.

I used to be an expert on bump and run. Course has got to be dry, though.

Question about ball position: do you maintain the same ball position for all clubs or do you vary it?

No. Driver and woods even with front heel. Will shift slightly depending on how I am hitting that day.

3-iron about 2 inches more to center of feet. Then about 1 inch per club from there (taking a divot from 5-iron on). My 56 degree/sand wedge is basically even with my back foot. I take pretty big divots with 7-iron through 60 degree wedge, so I am probably more on the exaggerated side of ball placement for short irons and wedges.

The further back the ball is in your stance, the better contact you will make, imo. It’ll feel weird at first, but you’ll get higher spin/distance control and overall a bit longer of distance. You’re basically forcing the club to make impact on the downswing, which creates the best of everything.

I love the open stance and light grip chipping and putting

Made progress tonight. Shot a 45 with a few really bad swings that kept me from a great score (for me).

I actually got my irons going straight, mainly working on my elbow placement. Started rereading Ben Hogan's 5 rules and got the elbow placement from that. Surprise, it worked.

My wife and I had a golf "stacation" this past week.  Played 18 at Darby Creek on Friday and then 18 at Raymond Memorial on Saturday.  Went to Springfield on Monday and played 27 at Windy Knolls (nice course that's not too long) on Monday.  On Tuesday we played 18 at The Virtues (Longeberger) followed by 9 at the Denison Golf Club.  The Virtues was really slow and long!  The fairways were so wet I kept backing up my driver in the fairways.  Makes a long course even longer.  We finished the week on Wednesday by playing 18 at OSU Scarlet followed by 18 at Mentel Memorial in Grove City.  Here's a tip; unless you are really good don't play a championship caliber course the day after a U.S. Amateur sectional qualifier.  The Scarlet course was set up as hard as it could be.  The greens were lightning fast, the rough really long and thick and every pin placement was on some hump tucked behind a bunker!

Overall it was a good week but I certainly learned my place in the golf world.  Playing the long nice courses is fun but I'm just not going to score well on them!

Just got my handicap back under 12 (11.9) for the first time in a few years. Goal is single digits, which has been over a decade. Right after college I was able to play a ton and got down to a 7.6. Doubt I’ll hit that again, but would love under 10. Amazing what actually playing will do for your game lol.

Lived in NC for 5 years, but didn’t have a lot of friends who golfed, and my travel killed any weekend availability. Now in Chicago I can get s game with about 15 people. Just wish the season was a bit longer.

Great thing about the sport is it’s all relative. If you know what you typically shoot, all you need to do is beat that score to have a great time and round.

And to further that, getting the handicap strokes if you are playing competitively (either tournament or with friends) makes it so every hole is even.

I'm currently sitting at a 16.4 but trending 16.9. Played Ravines today in Michigan and shot a 94. I was hoping to improve on my 45 on the front but shot a 49 on the back.

It was irritating though as I was in my 30’s and playing everyday and had better clubs ...but couldn’t get back to how I was before I stopped playing regularly about age 25. I was Championship Flight at age 16 but doubtful I could ever get back there....I would’ve been close back in my mid 30’s.

And my scoring was boring AF even though it was good back in my 30’s. I’d literally play 9 holes Mon-Thurs and shoot 38 or 39 every time....if I played 18 I was 78-81 like clockwork. I went out 3 summers ago and first time out shot a 41,  my next 4 times were all 39’s.....went out next time and shot an even 36 and didn’t go back out for the rest of the summer.

My game is old man and literally 3 clubs more now for same distance I had back when i was younger. I have a 7 wood FFS lol.

at some point down the road I’ll get clack to playing everyday (health permitting) but it just hasn’t been very enjoyable for a long time (rare round excluded).../I started playing every Sunday evening at age 6....peaked too damn early

Didn't play Beeches this trip, but we'll probably come back. We did check out the blueberry store. Didn't buy anything but we'll probably stop back in before leaving tomorrow.

Pulled the trigger in the Callaway Rouge X Irons. 5-9, PW. Then bought an individual 4 Iron as it came out to be cheaper that way. I’ve always had a 3 Iron, but those don’t come in sets anymore so I guess I’ll roll for awhile without one. But it was always my preferred club from 230 over a 5-wood.

Ever hit a 1 iron? I used to carry one. Interesting club when you pull it out of the bag lol

I have not. Seems like it would be a driving iron for me, which I’ve never been too inclined to switch too.

It was a strange looking club. A couple holes on my course had a pond about 255 off the tee and impossible carry over with a driver. My 3 wood worked but sometimes rolled it into even when swinging it easier. The 1 iron was perfect for those two holes. I like certain lies with certain clubs...1 iron gave me options from 230-245. I didn’t carry a 5 wood  then. Yeah, could’ve definitely managed without it but it was a fun club.

Local course up in North Central Ohio got 4 of these and they look pretty cool. I guess they have 4 more on order.

Great course too. Eagle Creek in Norwalk. Highly recommend.

These things look awesome. Would almost be worth a drive just to try them out.

If you do, make sure to call and reserve the scooters as they are a hot item.    It's probably the nicest course in the area and worth a weekend getaway.

Shot a 43 (+8) tonight. No penalties, but did have two really bad tee shots that ended up okay. Only missed 1 fairway. I did follow up my best ever tee shot on the 8th with a string of shit for a triple bogey, but followed it up with a birdie on 9. Drove to the far edge of the fairway with my 3 wood (about 260) and chipped over a bunker to about 6 inches. That was my first birdie since April. 😑

260 with a wood is impressive considering your relatively introductory status to the game.
