The problem is unions. A ton of people in multiple industries should be fired all the time, but it’s almost impossible bc of unions and lawsuits.

I understand that. My point was that bad police officers don't just slip through the cracks. The fact that it's difficult to fire a police officer is more troubling to me than the fact that it's difficult to fire a steel worker, no disrespect to them.

Individual cops can be good, but the institution itself is bad.

Not a true statement at all. If the whole thing was bad we would literally see 1000s of these cases every year.

Ok. I disagree. Your standards are way too low.

I dont expect it to make since to people like you that arent highly intelligent.  The post was meant to express a feeling that when dumb ass white cops do this shit....it reflects on all white people.  It surely drives that narrative

Complaining about people that "aren't highly intelligent" while typing "since" when the proper word was "sense" for the context.

Such a gym teacher thing to do.

Some professions don't get to have bad apples, and when your job involves other people's lives, you certainly shouldn't have a disproportionate amount of them.

Which professions ‘don’t get to have bad apples’?

Just saw another angle of incident.  Damn, there were 2 other officers holding him down the whole time.  Always thought it was just one.

Looks like 3 should be going to prison.

From the looks, it's plausible.  Hopefully facial rec software can provide a more positive ID, because his ex- identifying him from that pic is a little, ehhhh, suspect.

And if that really is him, that is majorly f'd up.

I’ve defended cops in a lot of these situations. But not all. And this is maybe the worst one yet.

The man was handcuffed already and had no weapon (had been searched). How was he a threat at all to end on the ground like that, with a knee to his neck?

People have to be honest with themselves if anything is going to change, the man wouldn’t be dead if he were white.

Dont quite understand why other cities feel the  need to protest, especially if it turns into a riot.

Because they feel threatened, not protected, by the police? Seems pretty straightforward.

And also they’re mad. When you’re mad about an injustice, you protest. Who cares if you’re not in the area of where the injustice happened?

They don't just slip through cracks. How many of these officers have disciplinary records? How many are for excessive use of force? How many have been accused of domestic violence? Why is it so hard to fire a shitty police officer? Many fired officers are hired back, sometimes because of an administrative error during the investigation. There are major problems with a lot of LEAs.

Uhh...what? It's literally impossible to guarantee you aren't going to potentially hire a bad officer, just as its impossible to guarantee you won't hire a teacher that diddles kids. You can take your best precautions, but its absolutely possible for someone to fall through the cracks.

A new hire would go through a basic background check and come up clean and have no record of anything on his personnel file. He could also just as easily turn out to be a shithead and kill an innocent person. He would answer no/NA to your questions listed above, and thus, slip through the cracks.

As to the police departments protecting shithead officers? Yeah, that happens. No, it isn't right. But I don't think it's a "major" problem at "a lot" of LEA's.

Also, not that it matters, but not all police departments are protected by unions. They aren't as common the further west you go.
