I don't hear too many people talking about the reality that state budgets have been decimated, and without the feds printing more money most states can't afford to shut back down.

We're going to see massive hikes in state & local taxes.  And even if they don't need to, they'll still use it as an excuse to raise more money.

Last night, I went with three friends to Attica's (north central Ohio) short-track racing event at their little fairground area. Man, go there and you'd be about 99.9% sure COVID isn't even a thing. The announcer mentioned it once (as "this COVID thing" in talking about how great it was to get this event happening despite the uncertainty we're living in), the place was utterly packed (we ignored the grandstands and were standing by the fence because there was at least elbow room there) and masks or bandanas were worn solely due to the dust and dirt kicked up by those little sprint cars around the track. If they weren't running, the masks were off.

Over the past few months, I've been to a few different places, some of which were reasonably (or totally) compliant with regulations and others that weren't so much, but this was the first time I truly got a "FUCK IT ALL; WE'RE HAVING FUN AND THAT'S IT!!!!" vibe where people generally gave no fucks as to even the potential of infection.

But but but, I was told that this wasn’t happening throughout Ohio!

Then why choose to stay there? Complaining about it doesn’t make you any better then the others there.

We’re in a bad spot because of tourists, but we had no deaths today. They literally all come here and then we rack up cases. It sucks, but without people, businesses go bankrupt and people will have no jobs. So what’s the answer? Masks are mandated btw

I think in order to be a regular on Reddit you have to be 20 years old and only think about things one way and everything else is wrong.

I’m not sure most are even 20

That’s just the .1% not complying out of the 99.9% that are complying.

Well, like I said, I went with friends and we stayed far more distant than the grandstand people were and had to be masked to not get dust and dirt in the face holes, so I wasn't so worried as thinking other people were in the "nothing is wrong!" mode.

I heard 2020 has a lower death rate than 2018, anyone know data there? That year was a higher flu death year too at around 81,000.

My Governor, Hogan, with a hell of a piece today about the failure of testing.

Perspective | I’m a GOP governor. Why didn’t Trump help my state with coronavirus testing?

Question for folks. Are you actually wearing masks properly? I.e. never touching them after putting them on, washing hands thoroughly before and after putting it on and taking it off, never wearing a disposable mask more than once, and washing cloth masks after every single use?

Nope. I wear my KN95 for weeks and touch it a lot. If masks are only to stop spreading it, what does washing my own hands before/ after or not touching it do to spread it?

Yes. I'm not perfect, but I try very hard not to touch the mask or my face. I wash hands before and after, or use sanitizer if I can't. I have 6 cloth masks and wash them regularly. And that's also why you see people wearing masks while driving. If you're making multiple stops, you should keep it on until you're done. People still gotta get their jokes off, tho, and that's fine!

I do the best I can. Wash hands a shitload. Wash the cloth masks regularly.

But washing hands, putting on mask, go to destination, return from destination, washing hands, taking off....is damn near impossible.

Yes. My wife sewed me several double sided cloth masks that fit well around my nose and face. I don't have to adjust it really that much. If I do, I make sure I sanitize my hands soon there after. I also make a habit of not touching anywhere near my face anymore.

Masks are required in my office. If it is just me in my office, I have mine off, but if someone comes in, I throw it back on making sure to just touch the ear loops.

I also only wear it for the one day, then wash them all at the end of the week.

I was telling someone the other day, I've actually gotten used to wearing mine and being in an office with everyone wearing one. It is not hard.
