posted by Dr Winston O'BoogieAt some point I have to believe the virus will die away once it's reached a critical mass of the population.
We'll start finding that out in a few months. If immunity only lasts 6-12 months and people start contracting it a second time, then a year-round virus is not going away on its own.
And even if 10% of the globe has had it, that's still nowhere near herd immunity levels.
When a vaccine is available, we really need everyone to take it so we can wipe this thing out before it mutates.

Agreed. I think schools will require it and insurance companies will force companies to require it. That should get to pretty close to herd levels assuming it’s effective right?

Idk, just saw on ESPN he was positive. I assume he’s fine like most athletes are.

Guarantee he has no sickness or likely any symptoms.

posted by Fab4RunnerI think it's a good idea if you plan to be around a large group of people, especially if any of them are high risk. (Think weddings, reunions, grad parties, etc.)
I also think it's a good idea after said get togethers, or after being around a lot of people on vacation. Obviously if you can isolate afterward, there would be no need, but if I was at a wedding and then wanted to go see my mom, I'd get tested beforehand.
That's exactly why I got tested previously and why I will again.
My parent's are in their early 60s, mom's a diabetic. I've heard too much BS about asymptomatic and spreading to risk it. I'd feel like such a prick if I somehow passed it on when I could have been tested beforehand for free.

Reported no symptoms. If COVID brings Ronaldo down, then he has some disease he has no idea about. He is easily in top 10 best shape in the world.
posted by Dr Winston O'BoogieIf getting a vaccine allows me to bypass any of the hang ups in place, I'll get one. If not, I'm not sure. At some point I have to believe the virus will die away once it's reached a critical mass of the population. If we're already on that downward slope when it comes out, I'll have to weigh the benefit of it easing restrictions.
I am mainly looking forward to the vaccine, because a lot of arguments will be sent to the grave, even though a lot of people will still be scared and use them.
posted by kizer permanenteAnd for some context, I went to my doctors Friday bc I’ve had nasal congestion for about a week that makes it impossible to breath through your nose and sleep, and i have a low grade fever. My doctor said since I didn’t have any trouble breathing I didn’t need a test. So they’re only testing people with certain symptoms too and not mild ones.
I've been tested a handful of times this year since I'm the caretaker of my mother. Her insurance insists on it.
I hate having my brain violated by a bigass q-tip. I think for certain cases they're just going to do it anyway.
Don’t they have a throat swab test now or am I just imagining this?

I posted a link on here a couple months ago about some breakthrough oral swab and never heard anything about it again.
Italy just reported their highest cases of positives since March. The only difference is they tested around 23K back in March and tested over 150K today.

Indeed. 43 deaths today compared to 796 back on that date in March. Also, so far 99% of current cases are in the "mild" category.
Barron Trump 🙁

Like 12 hours ago they said he was negative, so I wonder if it might be a false positive. Although, in some cases, it can take up to 9 days after exposure to test positive.
And that's part of the problem - I think Trump or Melania could still have been spreading this as recently as this weekend, so people in their orbit could still test positive for another 5-6 days.

Why do this information get ignored?

gee, let me guess
So due to rising outbreaks, France is instituting a curfew from 9pm - 6am.
This is nuts. Business as usual the rest of the day, but then go home and shelter in place like some plebian worker drone.
I suppose it cuts down on the private parties and bar scene, which seems to be a big part of the spread. But not really sure how effective locking down for 1/3 of the day will really be.
Nick Saban has it.
So odd, mask stop working at 10:01pm in Ohio, 9pm in France, do we have better masks?
BYU is warning students against intentional contracting Covid so they can sell their plasma.
Well, maybe you could lower your tuition prices, then, instead?

Officials at Brigham Young University-Idaho are warning students against intentionally contracting Covid-19 in order to sell plasma that contains antibodies, despite no evidence such schemes are actually underway.
You better not be doing what we have absolutely no proof we think you’re doing!
