Police reform isn’t going to keep dads in the home,  make kids pay attention in school and actually learn something,  reduce drugs and guns on the street.

Agreed. Doesn’t mean it’s not needed?

I think law reform is more important than police reform. If you consider them the same, then I agree with you that it’s needed.  Most of the shit I see discussed for police reform is a dog and pony show, which will do nothing to actually make the changes people want.

American politics in a nutshell. I kinda remember when the left hated the troops while attacking Michael Flynn. I'm sure this is somehow different, though.

Yes that is a great point

The FBI is trash. As hundreds of actual criminals get their charges dropped around the country for looting and rioting, they’re obsessed with 1/6.

Can’t believe they are treating everyday tourists like that, so unfair. But seriously, it sounds like they searched his apartment, took his cellphone and detained him 3 hours without charging him. How is his life ruined?

Why did they even go to his house? Based on a “tip”? Fuck the government and their crazy overreach. If you’re OK with it, you’re part of the problem.

I’m posting too much, but progressives never sleep. I was told a year ago that defacing statues was good. Now, a statue of a complete piece of shit was “defaced” and the mayor of NY is crying about it.

That sounds a lot like "institutional racism".  And it's the exact same thing white bigots say - how is your life ruined by that?

Did you miss the part where he's had two strokes due to the stress and has essentially had his reputation destroyed within his community? That seems pretty shitty for an older person to go through.

So Chicago is dropping the "Boystown" neighborhood name because "it's not inclusive enough of the LGBTQ community".

Do people just sit around brainstorming different ways how words should offend them?

Well, their mayor is borderline retarded, who blames violence there on guns instead of the shit population. I’ll also ask again, why did the LGB ever side with the other mentally disabled parts? It only makes their side harder to accept.

Every city that has tried it over the last 2 years has seen their crime skyrocket and are trying to hire back more cops

So no, it’s not needed since it has made crime worse everywhere it has been tried.

Yeah but now Biden want to give them Federal funding to hire back cops so it’s a win win

Various things that would help (most I have no idea how to make happen):

1. Cut WAY the fuck back on what's illegal. Less encounters, less problems. Fewer cops needed, keep the best, shitcan the rest.
2. Police unions (actually all public-sector unions) have no say in hiring/firing decisions. If the membership wants to keep them for collective bargaining for wages and benefits, OK. Not my preference, but OK.

3. Police need to get rid of the "us vs. them" mentality. They can consider themselves a brotherhood (sisterhood), but only if they realize that they have a duty to get rid of misbehaving siblings, not to cover for them, and not to stand by when one or more of them are not acting correctly, up to them actually committing crimes themselves.

4. The citizenry needs to get back to (or get in the first place) the idea that lawful orders are just that. I don't remember the name of the person in a case where a felony suspect was killed running away and people were upset as "he was just trying to get away". Ridiculous.

5. Other parts of the citizenry need to quit saying things like "all professions have bad actors". Yes they do, but saying this implies that some sort of error factor is somehow acceptable. It also usually means taking sides. The sides that one should take are good citizens and good cops vs. criminals and bad cops.

The problem with #1 is that in most neighborhoods where police shootings happen, it's not jaywalking or littering that are the issue. It's felonious gangsters with firearms who will shoot women and children.

And the black community needs to be even half as vocal about widespread black on black violence. Yes, I know some already are. But not even close to the outrage that George Floyd's case got. Say whatever you want to justify that, but I believe the citizenry collectively sees a HUGE hypocrisy in the black community - total outrage about any injustice committed by an authority, but widespread ignorance of violence everyday that poses an exponentially higher risk to black safety and advancement.

Capitalizing the letter B, BLM signs, etc are all window dressing in light of this.

Policing, arrest numbers, over using force, bad policing, under policing......its all just a symptom of the break down in the societal structures of those urban areas.

The urban culture, family structure, social priorities etc....  need to change.  Policing does not.  Laws do not.

It's all down stream from the Federal Reserve. Using boogie's term, it's all window dressing until our money is fixed.

There are literally events every weekend about ending gun violence in black communities in Columbus organized by black people there were walks in linden this weekend and an event yesterday at fairwood park. Another large event coming July 24, and a launch of a daytime basketball league that includes Columbus police. Let me know if you ever want to know about upcoming events

I think this illustrates the problem.  If these are really happening, the media should be giving them coverage. The media knows they can't create division out of these events, so they are ignored.

that comment doesnt make any sense.  You also show that you have nothing to contribute when you attack others.  Debate 101 class teaches that.
