I have a hard time understanding why we are scrimmaging Cambridge after they threatened to drop out of the ECOL if Big Red entered the league.
One of those "things that make you go hmmmmmm!!"

An attempt to save face I would imagine. I have to think they've taken some grief over that move.

The scrimmage was scheduled before the ECOL stuff went down.

Just hot home from scrimmage a little early I might add cause of the blazing humidity.Anyway I haven't seen so much size and strength from BIG RED in like forever.A 15-0 state champ team for sure.I guarantee it!!!

Have you seen our schedule? Also, have you forgotten about the other teams in Division III that can still give us fits? I'm not saying it's not possible, but a 15-0 guarantee?

I may be a little overly confident. Before I saw this scrimmage I predicted 8-2.Seeing what I saw today though I have changed my mind.It seems all we are ever missing is good size though. We have the size of MOONEY though no joke exrpt combine that with the big red quickness and speed. That is why i said that.

    Its only a scrimmage.

I wasn't really looking at it that way from a who won or lost kinda way. What I'm talkin about is the teams performance and attitude. The way things looked the BIGRED is towering over the me once again. Big Red has the chemistry to go all the way.A few weeks ago RENO said the greatest thing to see from a team is that everyone is friends.Well you can certainly tell that this is the case. Those kids on the fiekd are playing as if they are family.

Let's just hand Big Red the trophy now. No sense in any other team playing out the season. On to winter sports I guess.

Before we dust off a space for the state trophy, I think we need to beat Inkster. That game is not going to be easy. I'm sure they're a lot tougher than Cambridge.

OK sounds good!!!But seriously if you think I'm saying no other tesm has a chance then you have totally missed my point.Or maybe in your case FWK you may have missed what I'm saying also.My opinion has nothing to do with any other team being manhandled by the RED.I'm saying we are going to see sone great football by a team.COLLECTIVELY. I'm saying there is no doubt BIG RED will compete with MOONEY this year.I realize we got some heavy hitters on the schedule I'm happy we look like we are goibg to be able to have a chance to win.

My buddies and I also liked this edition of the Red. Size and quickness are exceptional this year. Those are things that can be measured regardless of the quality of the opponent. Defensive backs are both tall and quick to the ball. Offensive line can boast of having about 8 players who can play without much drop off of ability. Jesse and Shaq also ran with authority along with several other backs. We did not see many blocking assignments missed. Timing on several throws by Pierro was off the mark; this can be expected this early. And how about the left footed soccer style kicker who made all the extra points? This was a real sore spot last year.
On defense, this team can tackle well. Hitting was aggressive and hard; only saw one arm tackle. Cambridge hit a few out patterns that went for most of their gains. Over the years, it seems outside patterns give us fits. The kid from Harrison Central (74) anchored the right side of the defensive line. This kid is both big and very strong.
As a side note: We were told that the big transfer from New Jersey quit the team to concentrate on wrestling. Also, the one from Pitts. N.Catholic left the team. This is yet to be confirmed, but we did not see anyone 6' 7" on that field today.

That's how we saw it. This Saturday will be the test. Lake always gives us our best test. I never make predictions, but this is as fine a group of young men here as I have seen for quite some time. Only time can tell. Once you leave the bigger schools, depth can be a problem and a few key injuries can blow up your season. Let's pray that these kids play injury free.
    Cheers.

I'm no football expert, but I thought Big Red looked very good in that scrimmage. Yes, there were a few bumps that need to be ironed out, but that's why we have scrimmages. I just hope Big Red looks that good against tougher competition.

I notice that on rollredroll.com there are still some open dates for the freshmen and middle schoolers. Are these going to be filled, or are the schedules as complete as they are going to be?
  • ManO'War
As of right now they are, but they are still looking to find games if they can.

Well, tomorrow morning we get a much better look at this year's Big Red edition. Lake has always given us a good test and this year should be no exception. They have always featured a strong ground game with a competent passing attack to go along with a good defense.
    Cheers.

    Hmmmm. Wonder why?

Just got back from the scrimmage with Lake. In a nut shell, it was not impressive for Big Red. I realize players are shuffled around to find the final right mix, but Big Red seemed flat. The defense played very well as is the case early in the season but there were many dropped passes for us on offense. Line play on defense was stellar.
Lake was fired up and really came to play but they also had a very average passing attack. Looked at their schedule and saw that they play 9 div. 1 schools this season. They must have some high expectations for this season.
I feel Big Red will look much better when their first unit plays together more. A major player on this team went down with some sort of leg injury, got up and limped off on his on accord. I'll not name him of course; no need to pass on bulletin board fodder; it did not look too serious.

Any other thoughts from some of you who saw the scrimmage?
    Cheers.

I was not impressed by big red at all. There were two injuries for the red. IMO the qb situation needs looked at. I couldnt believe how flat and uninteresed Big Red looked unitl the little scuffle then they started to fly around like normal.

IMO the backup QB should be the starter. He doesn't get happy feet & throws the ball alot better, plus the starting QB was Big Red best wide out last season.

I agree. Our QB threw some poor passes today. Of course, he threw some good ones that were dropped, including one in the end zone.

I think our team spent too much time the past few days reading the blogs about how they are going to go 15-0. Perhaps today was an eye opener.

I was also at the scrimmage yesterday!! I liked our size,I was also iffy on QB position!! I do feel that we will have great leadership from our seniors this year, which we lacked last year!! Defense looked good,I was a little worried about offense, but I had a hard time following the game..I know it was just a scrimmage,so I will make my mind up after the Inkster game!!Can't wait to ROLL again!!!

I agree with that. He throws a beautiful long ball with accuracy. He is also the more mobile. That said, he did get a lot more reps this game than last and I believe he is only a Junior. I think the QB position is still up for grabs. Pierro can at least catch the ball, and we haven't seen too much of that from the receivers we have used so far. We'll see what shows in the last scrimmage. It's time to settle on a no.1 unit so the timing is reasonably established; I think we'll see that this week. Let's hope the coaching staff gets it right, because we're in for a tough opener; I'm betting they will.
    Cheers.
