Big Red breaking news.

  • ManO'War
No, they got left out of the "new" league because the surrounding schools can't compete with Steubenville City Schools' Open Enrollment. So they took their little ball and went home.

    Isn't what I heard.

Don't believe everything you hear...or read.

I talked to an A.D. last night and he said in a few years that no local teams will be scheduling big red at any level in any sport. I guess that explains Harding in the paper yesterday begging for volleyball games. You made your bed, now lay in it.

I think this a pathetic move by these schools. All this does is put Steubenville City Schools on a higher pedestal which in turn will result in more kids transferring into the school district.

I heard that Indian Creek Junior High's best athlete will be at Big Red this fall... I guess he didn't get the memo.

I can just see Wheeling Park using that as an excuse to drop us. That would make them look worse than they already do.

I agree. No matter what these other schools try to do, Steubenville will come out smelling like a rose.

Dont really know about that and dont really care. Ask your basketball, softball, and baseball coaches who has the best athletes between the 2 schools.

We'll see how the rose smells when the 7th grade teams have to travel an hour on a school night to play their schedule.

Kids don't mind traveling. When I was in the Big Red Band, we traveled everywhere, including Washington, DC. We loved it.

It could be worse. If we had joined the ECOL, we would have to drive to Zanesville and Marietta for girls' volleyball.

Proves my point. I figured you'd say that.

Don't kid yourself. Traveling 1-2 hrs to play a game on a school night gets old real quick. Did your Big Red band travel to D.C. as well as other places and back on the same day ?

That's the ONLY "supposed" reason the posters listed for the BMAC tea baggers took their ball and went home. OE transfers. lol boy
  • Darkon
The BMAC teams got tired of Big Red sitting in the stands and recruiting under classmen at games that Strunenville was not even envolved in.
Heard that fact direct from a middle school AD!

    True Statement!!
Maybe this had something to do with getting kicked out of the BMAC.

Oh wait, the paper said reorganization. That must be it.
  • war_admiral
lol I love it....keep it going. We got one from the Creeksters this fall?.......Whoopee-dee-doo! What next Darkon, you accuse us of giving him a Nintendo Wii and a Hanna Montana poster. lol

How are they supposed to continue doing this recruiting that you heard about from an unnamed middle school AD now that they kicked out Harding?

Short answer - buy a ticket

/long answer is the same as short answer

"my cousin's, uncle's, next door neighbors, dog sitter heard this straight from the middle school athletic director, so it must be true..." In other words they read it on the internet.

BTW, middle schools don't have "athletic directors".

Actually, some do, so you're wrong.

You better check your own back yard. I was told Harding Middle School is "creating" an athletic director position for a new employee.

Call it what you want, fact is, open enrollment is perfectly legal and many schools benefit from it, not just Big Red. If kids want to enroll in one school over the other, more power to 'em. It's their lives and future.

Why is the attitude towards the big red and fans so bad? I live in pittsburgh and grew up watching the wpial teams, but for sheer atmosphere, good solid football, and excitement, you cant beat Steubenville. As an outsider,I have been treated well by many big red fans. I was at a game 2 years ago,and I would have never been able to get into the game, and somebody gave me a ticket. I sit on the visitors side with a great group of big red supporters, and they are very polite to the visiting fans. One thing you cannot argue with is that the tradition is outstanding, and I look forward to another great season. I feel that reno is one of the finest high school coaches in the country, his record speaks for itself. the people around western pa. talk about some longtime coaches, but their records are not that great, they have just been around for 20 years.
