Big Red breaking news.

Strapping Young Lad
This. Who the heck knows/cares what transfers recieved scholarships over the past 20 years??? Yet you talk about making a big deal out of something that has no bearing on anything. You are making a big time ass out of yourself and people here are probably getting a good kick out of it. Don't stop now......GoChiefs wrote:
Or..maybe it's b/c nobody knows/cares about the answer except you? Hell, I can't tell you who got scholarships 3 years ago from my alma mater! Yet, you want someone to answer what transfers in the history of a school someone has received scholarships? That's pretty ridiculous! Get over it.sonofsam wrote: and ask a valid question that they won't answer -

My point was made, you have no clue as to the "exceptional" records that Big Red fans keep for their players and teams. The fact that the question wasn't jumped on but 16 posters with a list a mile long has solidified the point. If there were more than 2, they would have been all over it like white on rice just to shove it in someone's face.GoChiefs wrote:

Though this is is impressive, I know for a fact that many of these players never took a snap of college football. Also, many never finished their college. Nevertheless, alot of great names from the Big Red past.war_admiral wrote: KNOCK YOURSELF OUT!!!!

GoChiefsI believe the question presented was who received scholarships for college. Not whether or not they took any snaps. Just sayin'.

Skin_Man23 of theses guys just from present to 2000 did not receive a scholarship.
DIII does not give a scholarship. -
ManO'WarSo what? They got the opportunity to play football and go to college. All the coaches can do is give someone the OPPORTUNITY, after that it is up to them to make the most of it.
Where is the IC list? -
WooHaa!
I'm working on a Creek list, but I need to ask a few sources. Obviously, creek's history doesn't go back as far, but I'll see what I can muster up. I'm also trying to get Mingo and Wintersville grads just for the heck of it.ManO'War wrote: So what? They got the opportunity to play football and go to college. I enjoyed reading the names on the Big Red list. There were names from the past that I didn't know about. Guys were on there that I played either with or against their kids. Thanks for the info. -

ManO'WarHere's another tidbit:
When I was at YSU, I took a class in 1989 with Dr. Stevens, it was a statistics class that dealt with human populations.
One day, it was a Friday in September (I even had a Big Red sweatshirt on), he put up a graph of football players sent to college per capita...and guess who was #1 for the entire nation?? That's right, little ole Steubenville Ohio. I believe that Massillon was around #3. -
ManO'WarWoohaa...you have a lot of baseball players on your list...did all those baseball players also play football?
The Big Red list is just football players, and almost all of them went to college for football...with a few rare exceptions that were so good in another sport that they played that in college. -
WooHaa!This just came in to my email... not sure of accuracy:
"Bill Alford WHS class 56 - Purdue. Roger Alford 1st. black at WVU early 60's. Best of all, Lester Carney, not sure school but played football and won gold in olympics" -
ManO'WarI believe it was Lester Carney's son, or grandson...has the same name, that played for Bucthel in 87 and 88 vs Big Red in the title games..he was a pretty good receiver.
-
WooHaa!
No, the ones I listed were just the sport I put by the names. I thought some of those listed on the Big Red list played baseball. Such as... Donnie Reeves and Matt Morrison. Maybe I'm wrong. I know there are other baseball names left off the Big Red list. (Mark Stacy, Fred Heatherington, Bill Beattie, Dave Murray, Bill Murray, etc...) When I saw the names I mentioned I thought it was a multisport list. My apologies.ManO'War wrote: Woohaa...you have a lot of baseball players on your list...did all those baseball players also play football?

sonofsamToo bad that included Steubenville, Mingo, AND Wintersville since they are all considered "the steubenville area" Even my sister when she received her scholarship said she was from "steubenville" and yes we had an issue with that because they would claim anyone who got a scholarship... My question STILL stands to all the Big Red folk... Just how may "transfers" received those D1 or D2 scholarships despite the PT, the playoffs, the exposure, the so called pride... Was it TWO?
So what is the point? you want a D3 "scholarship".... Transfer to Big Red. Your books are paid for at Big Red... Go there. You will see. Anyone wanna take a bet on the boy from Harrison getting a D3 "scholarship"? Sorry but bets aren't allowed here, so I won't be betting, but I will be banking he gets his books paid for. Lets wait and see
