2010 Wayne County Athletic League Football

  • Mr Miyagi
this is what i heard. northwestern qb had broken foot. he has been jogging for a week and may be back for week #2. i think nwn could be a scrappy team this year they sure have the depth, but i am a little concerned about the offense, they never really show much in the scrimmages and are usually slow starter.s out of the gate. i never count out smithville and dalton, and i think norwayne could surprise this year

But they said he was probably not going to suit up for the Triway scrimmage. It mostly is precautionary. I would put a high likely hood that he plays against Garaway but we will have to wait and see.

    T. LINT IS GOING 2 HAVE MRI ON MONDAY ON HIS KNEE

Has anyone heard how the Huskies looked against St. Thomas Aquinas tonight ?

sorry to hear that bever boy, hopefully he can go sometime in the near future. Who has been getting his reps at rb (other than blevins obviously) and db? Anyone stand out for the bulldogs last night?

NW loss 16 -7 in a two quarter game sim scrimmage . Many starters were sitting out. Offense was simplified as usual in Husky scrimmages and a lot of young kids got work. D-Line for Huskies looked outstanding going up against a Big St. Thomas O Line. Not much to be seen at this scrimmage. Nw was real Flat and St. Thomas was fired up and still the Scrimmage was close. Mckean looks very good on the foot and with 18 seniors make no mistake THUT and CO. will be ready to go next week.

I thought Hackett looked good at QB for Dalton. Make good decisions and broke off some nice runs. I was sitting with the dad of one of Dalton's players and when Blevins got that pick, he said "you aren't going to catch that kid.". We didn't.

Here are my predictions for the WCAL:
    1. Dalton (8-2) - lots of speed at the QB and RB positions, lack of depth and line size may hurt them
    2. Northwestern(8-2, 7-3) - if QB gets back and healthy they could win league. Great linebacking core, and lots of seniors.
    3. Norwayne (7-3) - Wallace is a great athelete (maybe not the best passer) will be at least as good as last year.
4./5. Waynedale/Hillsdale Waynedale (6-4, 5-5) - always have a solid team, and have great numbers this year. Defense will be stronger than offense especially after the QB issues. Hillsdale (same) - don't really know a whole lot about them, but after last year I expect at least 5-5.
6./7. Rittman/Smithville Rittman (5-5) - say what you want but Rittman returns the best WR in the whole league, and a very good QB. after this year though they won't win a game for a while. Smithville (5-5, 4-6) - If Roseler (spelling?) can stay healthy/get healthy they will be a good team, probobly like a Northwestern last year, they can surprise some people.
    8. Chippewa (2-8, 3-7) - with the loss of Busson they will have a rebuilding year. A lot like Rittman last year, a few games will be close, but I see them losing the majority.

4/5 will be close and 6/7 will be too.

As for playoffs, I think Dalton, Norwayne, and Northwestern can potentially all make it. They all could win a game or two into it, but I think thats about it. The league is gonna be very good this year, should make for some very fun Friday nights! 8 more days :)

Can't argue with any of your logic Grizz. I think Rittman could have a nice year but an injury to Bauman, Dotterer or their wide reciever and they get thin quick. I don't see anyone finishing 1-2 other than Dalton / NW but just my opinion.
  • Grizz
And I made a mistake. Only 6 more days :)

I THINK MOYER @ RB HACKETT @ DB
  • 1486wd
moyer has excellent skills for a soph with pretty decent size and strength also. I wondered if they would play hackett there - is really too good of an athlete to keep off the field, a la mark jameson a few years ago. That being said they would probablyrather not if they could to keep him fresher

Since there's only a few days until the season gets rolling, I might as well make a few safe predictions....

Dalton has got to be considered the favorite, it seems like they have had the same backfield forever. Don't know alot about the new coach but I heard Jim Tressel was making calls on his behalf. If true, you couldn't get a much better reference. Anyway, nobody goes unscathed through the season and I think the Dawgs are only a slight favorite. Shold win 7 or 8 games.

Northwestern/Norwayne/Smithville/Waynedale-any of these teams could go on a rampage and win the league as they are all well coached. All of them should win somewhere between 5 & 8 games. I must admit I'm pulling for the Huskies, but if Smithville plays like they did at the end of last season, the top of the WCAL could be a real log jam. Norwayne has alot of talent again and will for the next few years-time is on their side. Anyone who counts out Waynedale doesn't know much about WCAL football....never write the bears off before the season has started.

Hillsdale probably shot their load last year but I don't see them returning to the Falcons of old. The boys from J-Ville will win 4 to 6 games and bloody a few noses along the way. Still need to toughen up non conference schedule if Mapleton & Lucas are on it.

Rittman & Chippewa-I don't see alot of upside or victories out of these two, but I give Rittman the nod in the head to head matchup. Rittman wins a couple games and the Chipps may steal 1.

Since I've pretty much recited the obvious, I'll fire some people up and make a controversial prediction....
Keith Schrock retires after this season and Rittmans head coach takes the Smithie helm in 2011.

    Anybody think I'm nuts?
  • Coach 08
Red Rum nice picks, but the only one I really disagree with is the last one, I do not see Schrock retiring I think he is going to be like Joe Pa at Penn St and keep hanging around.

YOU HAVE 2 REMEMBER THE BACK UP HAS NO PLAYING TIME WHAT SO EVER @ HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL BECAUSE OF NO JV GMS LAST YR LITTLE SCARY HAVING HACKETT ON DEF FEAR OF GETTING HURT
  • 1486wd
agree with that beverboy - sure hope lint can play this year, even if its only defense so hackett does not have to go both ways.

Just wondering who their contacts are? How are they gettin scores from uncovered games?
  • thePITman
I don't think they guaranteed scores for all those schools for every game but said they'd send all the updates they have. I have the same suspicions.
  • Red Rum
Kudos to Hillsdale....Delphos St. Johns is quite an upgrade in non conference scheduling.

I would make a few comments about how "cheesy" the Daily Records football preview is, but the last time I did that I found myself under a long and vicious attack from the Mike Plant fan club. So this year I would like to say the preview is the greatest 28 or so pages of print media I have ever seen. This preview is so spectacular, the names Plant, Holden & Dorksen will one day surely be mentioned in the same breath as Twain, Dickens & Steinbeck.

Good Luck to all WCAL teams, lets go 8-0.

But the picture of Schrock was priceless
