Orrville football 2015

  • RedRider1
Let's start a new thread here.

    Latest news:

    1. Orr/Woo moves to Week 1 beginning in 2016. Good thing. Keeps a long rivalry going & both teams have 9 weeks left after this one. Gate should be good too as weather will be nicer and one team won't be at the end of a losing season.

My question..will Orrville still have a bonfire leading up to the game? In late August?

    2. Hearing there was good turnout for a football meeting. 40+ rising sophomores, juniors & seniors. Hope kids are working now & all of those kids show up in August for 2-a-days.

    3. Freshmen numbers should be strong. Hearing 20-25 and that's a lot for us. I guess Coach Slaughter will coach this crew & told that none of these kids will play up on Fridays. This group will be key to the program's resurgence along with the current 6th & 7th graders.

    4. Preliminary enrollment numbers have been released by the OHSAA. Our boy number is 154 in grades 9-11. That number 5 years ago was 215. So we're down 30% from our number of males from just 5 years ago. Back in the late 90's we had around 250 boys in 9-11.

District wide we're down to around 1600 kids now versus almost 2200 in the late 90's.

***If this doesn't drive home the FACT that we're a changed community....nothing will. Aging population, absence of blue collar jobs & families working here but choose to live in other communities.

    5. The state hasn't drawn cutoff lines for divisions but 2 years ago, the line between D5 & D6 was 155. That line probably won't be the same this time..we find out in June..but we COULD be a D-6 football school as amazing as that sounds.

EDIT: Our enrollment with the state was wrong..we're still in the 170's for boys and girls count. Still D-5 Region 16 for football.

More likely we stay as a D5 school for football but the fact that we're on the border is amazing & sad.

    6. Here's out tentative 2016 schedule:

    Week 1 @ Wooster
    Week 2 ??
    Week 3 @ Northwest
    PAC schedule
    Week 4 vs Tuslaw
    Week 5 @ CVCA
    Week 6 vs Indian Valley
    Week 7 @ Manchester
    Week 8 @ Fairless
    Week 9 vs Tusky Valley
    Week 10 @ Triway

    That's 6 away games........

    7. Here's out tentative 2017 schedule when Northwest & Loudonville join and Indian Valley & Tusky Valley leave.

    Week 1 vs Wooster
    Week 2 ??
    Week 3 ??
    Week 4 @ Northwest
    Week 5 @ Tuslaw
    Week 6 vs CVCA
    Week 7 @ Loudonville
    Week 8 vs Manchester
    Week 9 vs Fairless
    Week 10 vs Triway

Things are looking up for your program...That schedule (other than Wooster) gives your kids a chance to have success and rebuild your tradition.

As far as the Orrville - Wooster rivalry goes...would have been better I think to just go out with a bang next season and call it history. Simply no reason for a D2 team to play a D5 OR 6 team in a non conference game.

Sure would like to see you fill that spot in week #2 with the Golden Bears.
  • RedRider1
I'd like to see us keep West Holmes in week 2 or 3. Two OCC schools to start things would be tough. Similar to our non-conf back in the 2000's when we'd start with Copley & Dover in back to back weeks.

I would like RRNation to address the 10-1 win that Triway put on our Baseball team over the weekend......

As far as football stuff sounds like a lot of positives. I am still curious what is going on in the weight room. That includes the middle school. Anybody???

Just the 10-1 loss to Triway?? What about 20-2 vs. Madison last week? 14-3 & 14-0 against Wooster. 10-0 to Lexington. All losses.

T-A-L-E-N-T. You need it to win....just like in football. This is obvious for most.
  • CCRolly
You guys seem to forget that RRN can't comprehend the obvious. Will be interested to see if that Wooster/Orrville non-conference game continues. As mentioned before, Wooster is at the point where it doesn't gain anything from this matchup.

Looks like the people in charge in Orrville are getting the schedule figured out and putting kids in positive positions. I can't see the Orrville Wooster game being played much longer. Not too many people left from the old school to understand what the rivalry meant. And as it has already been mentioned the new generation of Orrville kids look at Triway and others as the BIG rivalry.

I am optimistic about the turn Smith and the community have made, will still take some time to see these decisions make a difference but I am anxious to see the result.

He should probably be run out of town for a variety of other reasons, but if Wooster's AD schedules a D6 school for a preseason game he should be tarred and feathered. As RR1 pointed out, the numbers have shifted dramatically. It's over. Maybe play it every 5 years or something for nostalgia, but continuing the game is pointless.
  • Old Rider
I think 2017 will be the last time we play Wooster. Both schools have agreed to play the next two seasons, but I think it all comes to end after that.

It makes no sense for Wooster to continue to play a D5-6 school.

Amen...this is not a coaching problem it is a talent problem...same in football and every other Boys Sport right now.

Kent Smith might argue that his boy's tennis team is pretty good this year. Although...its tennis!
  • RedRider1
According to the latest state enrollment...we're down to 1522 kids in the district as of the count taken in the fall.

    That's the 15th decrease in enrollment in the last 17 years...and a 31% decrease since 1998.

I agree with the others...I think this game has 2 years left.

Their boy count is now 485 in grades 9-11....ours is 154. Three times smaller. It no longer makes sense.
  • Old Rider
No surprise about the numbers...but still amazing that we are that small in terms of enrollment. Also amazing that we have even been as competitive as we have against Wooster and other larger schools with numbers like that.

Says a lot about the TALENT we had in years past....

    It's Tennis....

For anyone not keeping tabs...the baseball team just finished the regular season with a 10-0 loss to Clear Fork.

They finished 2-12 in the OCC...only 2 wins were over Mansfield Senior...one of the worst baseball programs anywhere.

Their total record is 5-18, and they've given up 190 runs on the year. It's the equivalent of going 2-8 in football.

Sure does make a difference when you have talent, huh guys??
  • CCRolly
I call bullcrap. If RRN was the coach, they would've made the Final Four...

You are an absolute joke! Pumping your chest trying to prove your stupid point!! All you do is get on here and try to prove everyone else wrong you support NOTHING!! You are a turd! According to you nobody in Orrville has talent and it's all Smuckers fault so why the hell do you stay there?? Wow I've never met a bigger clown in all my life then your Oaf looking self!

On another note not one boy makes the state track meet. Talent deprived...I would say so.

Good luck to the girls who are taking a truck load to state!

I bet you can count on one hand how many times this has happened. WOW! But good luck to the lady riders!

Tentative enrollment figures were released by OHSAA for 2015-17 and are 178 boys (last time 185) and girls 179 (174 last time). That puts us solidly in the middle in all sports and doesn't look like we'll change divisions anywhere.
  • rrfan
Great job by all the ladies at the State Track Meet this past weekend. You all represented Orrville in a very positive way. And another State Champion joins RTR.

Those were revised. Apparently the first count was way off. I guess that's good that we didn't shrink THAT much.

    Impressive list,

I think that 93 and 94 pole vault champed spelled his name RIFFLE, unless he was French? Congrats to all that competed to find the best of the best!
