Orrville football 2015

They are probably the only Wayne County school other than Wooster who has fielded a freshmen team this year and last year. They have had to put together a freshmen schedule that is much different than a normal Smithville schedule since most teams in their conference didn't field a freshmen team. While this is becoming increasingly difficult to pull off with the lower numbers at other schools, the benefits to having a freshmen team are huge. First, the players get to play against kids their own age. Most freshmen are not physically ready to play JV football right off the bat. Also, many freshmen probably aren't mentally and/or physically ready for the more demanding practices/training that the JV and varsity teams have. Orrville made it a point to have a freshmen team this year as well. I look for their numbers to keep increasing as long as that option is there. You are always going to lose some kids as each year goes by, but not having a freshmen team seems to expedite that process quite a bit. I think schools with 12-13 frosh should do everything they can to play a freshmen schedule.
Agreeing for the most part...but 12-13 on a team means you're a few injuries/disciplinary issues from not having enough to field a team. I'd think you'd need 15 at minimum to have a team.

Wonder if there will be a push for 8-man football for schools at the D-5 through D-7 level? Or perhaps middle school through freshman ball is 8-man football?

Freshmen got us off to a nice start with a victory over a big Barberton team 24 to 16, Sly and Mark have the boys playing some disciplined football, it was especially nice to see the varsity come out and cheer them on after the team meal, and they did the same during the two scrimmages. Not sure on wins or loses this year but the varsity has a lot of heart, good luck this year and stay healthy.

Rider Dad I have noticed this also. It looks to be a tight bond on the team no matter the grade. Seems these kids really care about each other and a close team almost always plays better.

Good luck Riders Friday night! When you get home flip on BTN (or go to Jerry's) and catch the Illini vs Kent State on the BTN season opener. 9:12pm est kickoff.
Rare occurrence that two old OCC foes square off with Mason (Illinois) and sophomore OT Brock McCauly of West Holmes (Kent State). Not too often a Big Ten match-up works out like this. I remember seeing a "Nutter" (Genoa) on the sideline couple years ago for Cincinnati but dnp. Go Riders!

Since Orrville & Triway resumed the series in 2007:
    07 - Orrville 35-12
    08 - Orrville 34-13
    09 - Triway 28-14
    10 - Orrville 41-18
    10 Playoffs - Orrville 27-25
    11 - Orrville 52-7
    12 - Triway 29-20
    13 - Orrville 22-17
    14 - Triway 47-0

Overall the series is 35-8 in favor of Orrville....but just 11-7 in Orrville's favor since the 1993 Titan win.

Glad we'll be in the PAC with Triway next year, and will be really cool to play them in week 10. Orrville/Triway games are big...imagine a week 10 game for the league title and a playoff spot? Wow.

Forgot we didnt play them in 99, 00, 04, 05, 06...the 11-7 record had me shaking my head.

Good luck to Mason tonight. Sounds like a good move to get rid of a coach that did not care about his players health. I am sure you know way more about that than us. Wish I could watch the game but no Big10 network.

Lets go Riders! Kick some triway butt tonight.

Good Luck tonight Riders. I hope to see more Hersh getting the ball in space, better play calling out of the OC. Would not hate to see Coach Davault take over the duties again.
  • Old Rider
Lets just hope we don't try to run between the tackles ALL NIGHT! And throw the ball...we needed more of that against Triway.

    Go Red Riders!!

From 2005-14, Orrville has won 6 of 10. But the average margin for those wins was around 7 points. Their 4 wins were by an average of 17 points.

I think it goes the same way tonight. If we pull out a win, it will be close.

If it gets wet, hoping we can use our run game to our advantage.

    Go Riders!!!

If we are going to "use our run game" we better start doing it correctly. Running small backs between the tackles will end up with another long night. Get those backs the ball in space. Pass game can be used as an extension of the run game. Better get this fixed quick or you will have hurt backs soon. They are not big bangers but in space can do some good things.

I'm sorry for letting my temper get the best of me . I asked that guy several times to stop attacking my better half . I even said let's just stop the personal attacks but he kept going . I do not appreciate people attacking her for voicing her opinion and when he said that she should know her role shut up and make sandwiches to me that's crossing the line. I don't know about the rest of you guys but I don't appreciate my woman being spoken to that way . She's not my property and she has a mind of her own. and she's allowed to speak her opinion . Could I have handled it differently yes. and if I offended anyone on here other than him I sincerely apologize . I will try to keep everything football related from now on .

I know. I'll probably have to sign my name again so he can come flex on me. I don't need to hide from anyone. Not Jeremy or "Coach" Carter.

Hey Troll King Oldest Rider 2 has all of 4 posts and 1Beast hides behind a screen name and lives on here! What else would a Bellstores associate do? I wouldn't worry about any of them. They are all going to Dougies house for Thanksgiving dinner. Cooking is the one thing he is good at-no worries my friend. Got 2 texts from NW friends of mine last nite wondering what happened to Orrville football?? 26 kids on the team? I'm not sure I haven't been there but sounds about right. Tuslaw is a bad team but they have kids on it. Less and less boys wanting to play for the guy. That's pretty bad actually 26??
