All that being said, Mason, if healthy, has as good a shot as any. He is a violent striker (which is why he led the B1G in forced fumbles), pulling guard/tackle/fullback if there is a collision at the LOS it is gonna stay there. Yes, there are kids faster, but if you keep him clean he has the ability to make up the extra step it with instincts. Nebraska last year in Lincoln...1st and goal from the 3, Bo sends a 250 lb fullback at mason with 245lb Imani Cross right behind him....lost a yard...In true Pellini fashion they ran the same play again for no gain. He inserted the speedy Amir Abdullah on 3rd down and he beat Mason to the corner with an outstretch hand just getting the football across the plane. a tight end got one arm on mason as he was scraping and that made the difference. And, of course my favorite from last year...4th and goal in the Shoe....he and Zeke met at the 1 yard line "mano y mano" and after the collision....ended up back at the three. Oh..It's been a fun three years...hard to believe it's gonna end. RTR
Man...this post has me ready for football!!! This Haley family will be tuned in! RTR

Lets see great work ethic, smart, strong, started in Big 10 for 4 years... Unlike you I actually root for our kids to be great and if he does or does not make it to the NFL will not change the fact that he will be successful in his life.
There you go again just because my opinion differs from you I'm a piece of garbage! So high class and smart

Listen I like Mason Monheim. Loved watching him play on Friday nights. Always put it all on the field for his team and his city!

If we are playing Jeopardy and the answer is someone with a tough attitude, a great passion to win, a student of his game, and a great leader and a gamer I give you Mason Monheim!!

But lets be honest the NFL is the elite!! Mason never got recruited by Ohio St and let's be realistic Illinois is a glorified MAC football program that couldn't beat half the MAC teams. He isn't that fast, not that quick, and he takes plays off!! Film will show you that-I hope it does happen for him but let's not just be caught up in the Orrville spotlight-it won't happen guys and 5Knots you raised a great boy that became a man and you should be proud. He will always e good at what he does and earned a great education and that's something to be proud of!

No reason Mason can't.....but he could just as easily hang up the cleats and go be successful in whatever he chooses. Winners win....and he's got the faith, the drive, and the work ethic to be a winner in whatever he chooses.
You gonna whack him off too?

Bottom line is that he will get some looks. Time will tell.

Any news on the 7 on 7?

    Thinking of this last night....

If you had to pick 1 player per decade as "the best" Red Rider football player...can have excelled in other sports...but had to be a football player....who would be on your list?

    Let's have fun with this...

Best can mean anything...most productive, most versatile, most impactful, etc.

    Nominees (feel free to add)

    2010's (so far)...Monheim, D Brenner, Turner

    2000's...Simmons, Hiller, Hoobler, T Brenner

    1990's...Ray, Reusser, Denson, Dru

    1980's...Bolyard, Leeder, K Denson

1970's...Griggs is the only "great" that comes to mind but that's a little before my time.

Into the 80's GREAT list, I think it would be cool to hear some of the Older fans put some names from some early decades together to help "educate" some of us young pups on here. LOVE history!

Thats a very cool video...nicely done!

In what, 15 years...none of these 3 buildings (and the turf) existed in their present state.

The OJH was on E Church still, we still had 3 elem. schools & the HS was still yellow bricks.

The ACV plant stood where the OMS is now.

Quite a process and those involved the decision making process need a big thank you.

For a town of 8000, I'll put our facilities up against anyone.

Any word on the 7 on 7 with Waynedale?
  • rrfan
1 beast I would assume if you are asking you already know and liked the outcome?
  • Old Rider
We did not look good at all. I was not there, but that was the information I was given. Its 7 on 7...who cares.

I did hear that Waynedale was without Reibe and that they looked pretty good. Im sure Waynedale will (should) have a nice season.

Actually, I've been on vacation, and havent heard much fb talk at all. Im curious to hear something, anything. What you posted sounds good though. It is only a 7 on 7 but its still nice to hear things.

My oldest is in college, even though he didnt play fb, I usually got the low down. My daughter...well, lol. My youngest is going to be a 7th grader.

Truly wasn't poking, just looking for results.

Riebe was there...Stanley was not there, he was on vacation.

Beast...I have missed you...how's it going?

Caught a glimpse of practice yesterday. Around 28 10-12th graders and another 20 frosh.

Health will be key because we have zero depth. Enough depth to go 1st team vs 1st team in practice for the most part...and that's big.

Supposedly we will have lots of guys going one way...with a handful of guys going both ways.

I'd feel pretty good if this was a team competing in the PAC.

Keeping guys like Luke, Domer & Auble healthy will be huge.
  • rrfan
Domer staying healthy is a huge question mark. He has not been able to do that in his career so far. Has he gotten any bigger? That may help him.

    Overall very good to hear.

Domer's focus is baseball-he will go D1 in baseball and is a good football player but I don't think works as hard in football-he won't play a full season

I agree with one thing you say there...he won't play a full season. As far as a D1 baseball scholarship...I doubt that will happen. But it is his primary sport!

No bigger from what I can tell. Although I am sure he has put some weight on. I want to see what he can do for a full 10 game season...fingers crossed!
  • rrfan
I have heard that baseball is what he loves. I don't see D1 there either but for his sake I hope I am surprised. Will always root for Riders!
  • Old Rider
I am sure he is getting plenty of college looks especially with the amount of summer baseball he plays. Just not sure it will be a D1 school...but I hope he proves me wrong. Enough baseball talk.

I also got to catch some practice time this week and it was good to see the kids working hard and getting after it! I also heard that we will be playing as many kids as we can just one way.. Essentially allowing them to specialize at one position. This will give us the best chance to compete with the low numbers that we have. Although I think as the season wears on we will have certain kids that will HAVE to go both ways because of injuries and skill level.

First scrimmage is Tuesday the 11th against Chippewa at home (morning..10? or 11?) Next scrimmage is @ Minerva Saturday the 15th @ 10:00am. The last scrimmage is home against Lutheran West the following Friday night (21st).

    Its almost here!

He's played a lot of summer ball and that will get your name out there. From March until August he's a baseball player.

When football season ends he is a baseball player...he doesn't/didn't play basketball this past season. So I would say November till August!
