I only say D1 because he is a south paw-he's pretty damn good-he will play baseball at the next level either wayOld Rider;1744541 wrote:I am sure he is getting plenty of college looks especially with the amount of summer baseball he plays. Just not sure it will be a D1 school...but I hope he proves me wrong. Enough baseball talk.
I also got to catch some practice time this week and it was good to see the kids working hard and getting after it! I also heard that we will be playing as many kids as we can just one way.. Essentially allowing them to specialize at one position. This will give us the best chance to compete with the low numbers that we have. Although I think as the season wears on we will have certain kids that will HAVE to go both ways because of injuries and skill level.
First scrimmage is Tuesday the 11th against Chippewa at home (morning..10? or 11?) Next scrimmage is @ Minerva Saturday the 15th @ 10:00am. The last scrimmage is home against Lutheran West the following Friday night (21st).
Its almost here! -

He WILL play at the next level..no doubt. I hope he stays healthy this football season because we will need him for all 10 gamesRed Rider Nation;1744751 wrote:I only say D1 because he is a south paw-he's pretty damn good-he will play baseball at the next level either way -
sanitizerHis daddy wasn't very big either but was one hell of a football player. B I G does not spell BAD! LOL,
Great to hear they are trying to play one way, that could help but as the season goes on the best players usually play. If they can get a break that will help a lot.
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT IS ALMOST FOOTBALL SEASON! My boys are finally old enough to stay out that late on a Friday night!!!! -
rrfanAny news on the scrimmage yesterday?
-
1_beastChipps roughed up Orrville pretty good from what I gathered.

I can only say from the Chippewa perspective vs. Orrville, but Chipps had their varsity in for 30 plays on offense and 30 plays defense. Chipps scored 4 times. Orrville really didn't move the ball, only crossing midfield one time to the 46. They didn't make it any further.
Good luck to the Red Riders this season! -
Old RiderChippewa has a very nice team! They will make another good run and I imagine they will/are a favorite to win the WCAL this season?
-
FlashOrrville I hear looked better in the scrimmage with Minerva, scoring a couple of times.
-
sanitizerI "heard" we scored five TD's and they were held scoreless. Also was told we had two really nice goal line stands?
Heard this at the corn hole tournament at the rib cook off this weekend in the Ville? Someone else could probably verify.
Team is DEFINATELY small in size and in numbers, saw them up close last week. But when I played we had 15 seniors alone! We actually Look "Decent" at the skill positions (if we stay healthy) but looks like they may REALLY have to work hard up front. Few kids coming out for the first time to play football (super cool and admirable) and will probably start up front. Gonna be an interesting year. -
rrfanWell the boys should be getting ready for a Friday night "game like" scrimmage tomorrow. How is the health of the team?

rrfanNice job on Friday by the Riders. I loved the emotion. They looked like a true team...the starters were rooting on the youngsters and stayed engaged after they were done. Lets get after it again this week and be ready for Friday. Good luck Riders!

Old RiderI thought we looked good on Friday as well. Kids were playing with a lots of energy and the support the older kids were giving to the freshman was great to see.

Just kidding. Enjoy the season it's a quick 10 weeks but I've always said the best 10 weeks of the year. It will be odd to me not going to any Orrville games this year as I haven't missed one in the last 5 years but I am doing something different this year. I picked 10 random games to go see with a group of people. We all had input and came up with 10 pretty neat venues and rivalries to watch. We are even doing one over nite trip to Cincinnati.
I always wish nothing but the best for the Red Riders! Enjoy the ride!! -

I did something similar in the early 2000's when Orrville struggled in Mac's last couple of years. I saw lots of other local games that year. As far as Orrville team goes...there are actually 7 seniors, 10 juniors, and 9 sophs on this years team. Frosh will dress 17-18 kids. There are about 20 8th graders and about the same amount of 7th graders.Red Rider Nation;1746963 wrote:You mean the 8 upper classmen to the 7 freshman?

Too bad we aren't going into the PAC this season...I like what I have seen so far in practice and the scrimmages but taking 26 kids to battle Ashland, Senior, Madison, W. Holmes, and Wooster may not fair real well again! But we shall see... -

Davault told me mid 20's at both 7th and 8th.....and he said it's 18 or 19 frosh now. I'm going to try like crazy to get to a freshmen game this year.Old Rider;1747023 wrote:I did something similar in the early 2000's when Orrville struggled in Mac's last couple of years. Those are all real positive things.
Easy to be hopeful this time of year...and I think we have a real shot at getting off to a good start...and we better because weeks 5 through 10 will be a grind.
We'd compete to win the PAC this year...I really believe that. No dominant team over there this year. Manchester #'s are down, Indian Valley graduated their stud RB, Carmicheal is gone at Triway....it's wide open. -
RedRider1Oh...and the Columbus Dispatch thinks we're the Orrville Raiders. We're not in their coverage area by a long shot, but we're there because we play a Columbus team.

Does your shift Supervisor at Bellstores know you are on your phone at 12:18am during your shift??1_beast;1747007 wrote:GOOD! GTFO And leave folks alone tard- monkey.
Get it in during your outside trash run! A little Ohio Chatter, and a cig and back at it!
Any idea when gas will be below $2 a gallon again? -

My fuel cell is full. I'm locked in @ 1.89/gal and just topped off. Maybe you can do that someday.Red Rider Nation;1747132 wrote:Does your shift Supervisor at Bellstores know you are on your phone at 12:18am during your shift??

sanitizerI saw a couple of the players Monday night at the gym. They seemed upbeat and enthused about the season! Good to see some excitement. Although early it is still cool to see.

Old RiderLETS GO RED RIDERS!!

oldsmithieI noticed in the DR preview, that a lot of the local schools have low numbers out for the varsity. Most in the low 30's and a few in the 20's I am not sure what happened at Smithville but their numbers are up for the first time in 4 years, they have 41 varsity players and 19 freshmen.

Smithville has been very smart IMO when it comes to handling their program the past few years. They are probably the only Wayne County school other than Wooster who has fielded a freshmen team this year and last year. They have had to put together a freshmen schedule that is much different than a normal Smithville schedule since most teams in their conference didn't field a freshmen team. While this is becoming increasingly difficult to pull off with the lower numbers at other schools, the benefits to having a freshmen team are huge. First, the players get to play against kids their own age. Most freshmen are not physically ready to play JV football right off the bat. Also, many freshmen probably aren't mentally and/or physically ready for the more demanding practices/training that the JV and varsity teams have. Orrville made it a point to have a freshmen team this year as well. I look for their numbers to keep increasing as long as that option is there. You are always going to lose some kids as each year goes by, but not having a freshmen team seems to expedite that process quite a bit. I think schools with 12-13 frosh should do everything they can to play a freshmen schedule.oldsmithie;1747566 wrote:I noticed in the DR preview, that a lot of the local schools have low numbers out for the varsity.
