Please don't include me or my name in association with what you saw last night! I'm better than that!! I never said playoffs I said discipline! Look back you goofball!! This time next week you will be watching the same playoffs without either team in it just like me.CCRolly;1669680 wrote:As I sat and watched this debacle (to put it kindly) I couldn't help but think how RRN would have that Orrville team in the playoffs....LOL, village idiot. -
Red Rider NationHeard from a source that Doug is stepping down. Wow really?? I can't understand why! He's got such a great thing going!!

jacoKnute Rockne reincarnated could not have taken those twenty four kids and manufactured a competitive game against Wooster. It was like watching a freshman squad play a varsity squad. There are some "pieces and parts" but not nearly enough to compete. That has nothing to do with playcalling, discipline, whatever. There just aren't the horses. If Davault steps down, good luck to the next man up. And I would hope the community supports these kids better going forward than the pathetic crowds I've seen this year.

Kids aren't playing because of Davault! Hard to go and watch this when I don't feel that many on the team put in the work. Kids want to show up on Friday and be the stars but did not put the time in the weight room in the offseason. Do not get me wrong they would still have been a bad team...but they did not control what they can control.jaco;1669809 wrote:Knute Rockne reincarnated could not have taken those twenty four kids and manufactured a competitive game against Wooster. RedRider1Not sharing this info to advance any particular agenda....just from a statistical interest. I'm sure I'm giving a certain poster a lot of fuel to share on here and facebook....but whatever. It is what it is. We had a crappy year.
We allowed 441 points on the season.....far and away the worst season in terms of points allowed in program history. Next closest was 301 in 2005, and we played 11 games that year. Offense has changed a lot and is nowhere near what it was in the 60's & 70's, but 45 pts per game given up is still a ton regardless of the decade.
Last time we had 3 losing seasons in a row since 1951-53 where we went 8-18-1.
From 1975 through 2011 we had a total of 3 losing seasons.
We're 2-19 in the OCC our last 3 years, both wins over Lex. (Anyone still think the OCC is a good fit for us in football? I don't care how much better you get, how much weight you lift, how many sprints you run, you're still half the size of most schools in the league...can't "outwork" that, and kids are getting tired of losing. Simple as that.)
There were 6 teams in the state that had at least 2 wins, but 0 second level computer points.....Brush, Lincoln West, St Paris, Ponitz, Shelby and us. We were the only team in D-5. Speaks to how horrible Rogers and Lex were this year. Probably saved us from 0-10.
In 2013 & 14 (20 games), we had 45 points or more scored on us 8 times (40% of the time)....from 1992 through 2012 (243 games), we had 45 points or more scored on us 8 times (3% of the time).
I'm sure there's more to point out.....just historically bad from a numbers perspective.
Will also be the 2nd time in 3 years we have no All-Ohioans....before that we had a 1st team All-Ohioan in 8 of the last 9 seasons (2003-11). Can't be ignored. It's more than coaching.
Sorry for the depressing info. -
elitesmithie05I know most people on both sides don't want to hear it but I wish both sides(WCAL and Orrville) would bury the hatchet and get together. Even non football sports, Orrville has played several county schools in Basketball(girls and boys) and Volleyball in the last decade. While Orrville has won the majority of the time, a lot were still competitive and fun games for all parties. Schools are now similar sized and travel would be so much better. If Orrville goes 7-3 on a D5 league schedule with a few larger(wooster, triway, northwest) non conference they would make the playoffs every year. For example Smithville could have made it this year if they would have beat Waynedale this year and our non league schedule didn't even include larger schools. Just something to think about...

jacoThe spread was not your friend. All it did was kill the clock and let other teams pile up points. And, mind you, this year you had the continuously running clock in the second halves of games, so scores could've been even worse. But, yeah, that defense.. it wasn't awful up the middle, but on the edges and backside it was pretty terrible. It looked like Wooster kids were growing jetpacks out of their backs and literally flying past defenders Saturday night. Simple toss sweeps or two yard outs were going for long TD's.
Remember that year McCreary came out and loaded up in the power I? It didn't work in the end, but at least made the game interesting. He chewed clock and pounded out three yards a carry for the first half. That sort of creativity was sorely lacking Saturday. That was a "let's get this over with" performance. Not even one oneside kick... -

I agree! Probably would have to add another team along with Orrville to balance out scheduling. Triway or Loudonville would be options.elitesmithie05;1670421 wrote:I know most people on both sides don't want to hear it but I wish both sides(WCAL and Orrville) would bury the hatchet and get together. I think Triway would be best. Triway, like you guys and even more so in football has played quite a few WCAL teams in the last decade. Now I suspect both teams would have years like this for Triway where they run through the league but if we look at the last decade Triway probably is .500 or worse vs WCAL teams. Plus there are a lot of natural rivalries. Triway would have Orrville, they already play Waynedale every year and they used to play Northwestern in basketball frequently. I personally think a little hatred and dislike is a good thing. Keeps things interesting. Dalton Waynedale and Smithville traditionally hate each other. Chippewa and Rittman do as well. No reason to keep Orrville out of the fun due to some hard feelings.Old Rider;1670430 wrote:I agree! Probably would have to add another team along with Orrville to balance out scheduling. Red Rider NationChalk up another Orrville kid getting ready to transfer out of the school system! We just went from horrible to is there a word for worse than horrible??
-
Old RiderI would transfer my kids too....if I had to watch them play in this league against a bunch of teams 3x our size and who we cant compete against! And I WILL do just that if we are in the OCC when my oldest gets to high school.
-
rrfanMy gosh it sounds like a bunch of old ladies in the hair salon on here!
1.) Recap-Put Orrville in _____ (name conference here) and the record is the same.
2.) Stop whining to get in the WCAL it is not going to happen move on.
3.)These kids are not putting in the work. Going to practice is not putting in the work.
4.)Redrider1 all those stats tell me is that typically we have athletes...now we don't
5.)Be careful what you wish for (coaching change may not end well). Who would want this job? What teaching spot is available?
6.)Oldrider- I never saw you back down from anything. I would hope you would challenge your kid to be part of the change. Go the extra mile and get his friends to do the same. Change the culture of if it gets hard we quit. -
unc4lifeI would really like to know all the schools in the OCC's football numbers this year, not enrollment just football. Because as much as you all whine about OCC being so much bigger I think you would be shocked by the actual numbers. Lexington had very small turn out this year, clear fork had low turnout, heck even schools like Wooster and Mansfield didn't have more then 50 kids on the varsity and JV. I will continue to say this, Orrville's problems in football wont be solved by leaving the OCC. Honestly it will probably make it worse when your getting your butt kicked by schools your own size. Its all about talent, I would argue that Loudonville could have won the OCC this year with the numbers they have. Its all about who you have not how many.
-
FlashIts not completely about numbers, but quality of players. If kids don't play now they quit and move on to something else. In the day many kids kept playing when they knew they wouldn't start. The numbers for all the teams are down but schools will still get the athletes in the prime sports .

Numbers out make no difference...you only need 18-24 pretty good players. The size of the pool you can pull those players from is what makes the difference. Orrville doesn't have a big enough pool.unc4life;1670631 wrote:I would really like to know all the schools in the OCC's football numbers this year, not enrollment just football. iced earthThe WCAL would welcome Orrville and Triway with open arms.....IF....conditions were meet where both schools would have to pay a stiff penalty for leaving before an agreed upon time frame. (10-20 years). Loudonville and Tuslaw would be great additions also. But these 8 schools have been together for a long time. They will not accept anyone who they do not think is in it for the long term.
Orrville needs this to happen badly. -
thePITmanThe WCAL is one of the most stable, competitive, close-knit/short-travel conferences in the entire state. The only way I see the WCAL changing is if Hillsdale (not in Wayne County) leaves or gets booted, and Orrville (better size fit than Triway) joins. However, if Rittman (smallest WCAL school) were to leave or get booted, that would leave room for Triway to join, possibly. But where would Rittman go? They wouldn't fit into any league except maybe the PTC or some smaller, weaker Akron-area conference.
End result WCAL would be:
Chippewa
Dalton
Northwestern
Norwayne
Orrville
Smithville
Triway
Waynedale
I have always been in favor of 8-team conferences, no more. I really do not like 10+ team conferences with divisions. It's a pain for scheduling, conference championships, and so on. Just go with the best 8 teams and move on. -

I see you have a case of small school bias. Orrville's best teams in the past decade never won the OCC. Let's not get uppity. Loudonville is a D6 school. They'd do okay, but win it? No. Lexington and Clear Fork aren't good, but they aren't Willard and Lucas - whoever those guys are. Wooster currently has a Division 1 athlete playing for them at WR and DB. Playing with the big boys with speed is another game. I don't think Loudonville gets through Wooster, Mansfield, Madison, Ashland and West Holmes with fewer than two losses.unc4life;1670631 wrote:I would really like to know all the schools in the OCC's football numbers this year, not enrollment just football.
