I get the reason for installing the spread..we aren't going to line up in the "I" & push anyone around in the OCC...but a new system is going to have growing pains, and with a dip in talent, those "growing pains" are 40 point losses.

The big difference in this dip is there isn't that 1 class that does have talent & depth to bring things back quickly...we've had a few thin "football" classes in a row & this is the cumulative result. There are numbers in the 9th grade....the 7th/8th grade teams have a nice core...there's also a group of 6th graders that have had good success in boys club tackle ball...so it's coming....just may not be for another few years. It's going to require patience....and it may all change by the time these kids are ready to contribute at the varsity level.

Anyone with half a brain can see our numbers in the junior & sophomore class. It's really thin. We may not have 20 kids TOTAL in 10th-12th grades next year. Not sure Nick Saban could right the ship.

"Clearing house" sounds easy until you look at reality. It means you'd have to find ~10 new coaches (already in the school system preferably) and that's just not realistic. Most of our coaches played here & in college..they're some of the last connections to our great years...and they know football....and they're willing to put in the time required....some volunteer to go through all this. They should be thanked....not replaced.

As of today, the remaining 2 JV games of the season have been cancelled due to numbers/injuries. That's concerning because the frosh/soph we do have don't get reps. It's a vicious cycle.
That kind of stuff makes me angrier than a Friday night loss. That's the kiss of death to a program. Those kids work their butts off all summer and don't get a freaking game? So if you're a freshman or sophomore on a losing team and you're not getting playing time at varsity level, and not getting your own games, why in the world would you come back out next year? Call them scrimmages, do joint practices, get creative... but give those kids reps. Players need to develop somewhere. You can't just go from 8th grade to varsity and throw the rest away.

If you don't have horses, you won't win races. Right now, Orrville simply has nothing in the pipeline. It's a tough pill to swallow after all the years of success, but what really surprised me was the total lack of fan support at the game on Friday. WH had double the fans at the game.

You'll turn it around, and in no time will be back to kicking tail.

    300...dare I say it???

RRN and Troll Queen please report to practice to show everybody how smart you are... Last I checked you have an awesome D coordinator and he can't come up with anything either. You have to have kids who can play and have some talent...wake up you don't. The culture that is "broken" is that way from soft society and parents that suck. Please go tell us all how to fix that.

I respect the boys out there. Every one of them, on every team. Playing football these days takes courage. I don't care if a team goes winless (like Lexington might), I respect the kids who put in the work all summer a hell of a lot more than the kids in the stands or worse, the ones sitting at home. And I'll bet these lazy kids are the same ones to say "you guys suck" in the lunch room, too. Fans can start supporting the kids by showing up. The message sent by skipping games is "I support winning, not the kids." That's the definition of "front runner". You don't need to be a Davault fan to support the players on the field giving everything they have. The fact is they just aren't good enough. So shoot them. That doesn't mean they don't want to win or proudly represent their community. Now I'll climb down off my soapbox!

The kids choosing to quit are not the ones "working their butts off in the summer"....I promise you this!! The truth of the matter is that when life gets tough (in this case a football team that is 2-4) with maybe one more winnable game on the schedule, the kids who have already found football to be more of a "chore" rather than a "privilege", are ready to cash it in. I mean why on earth would we expect a kid to stay out for football (or keep a job) that makes him come to work everyday, put in some sort of effort, and be held accountable??? Thats just unfair isn't it???

If the kid is gutless, doesn't want to put in the work to help make the team better....than don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out!

I agree that the players need to have an opportunity to develop, but when there aren't enough to fill a full squad, are we really developing them? Kids are being forced to play positions just simply out of need and thats not developing them at all!

I will say this too...those Riders giving everything on Friday nights (and they are) are going to take life lessons from this season for the rest of their lives. There is a difference between getting beat and not trying. I have seen them get beat but have told many people that I have talked to the "want to" and "effort" is there. That tells me two things. 1. These kids will fight till the end and give all they have. 2. Coaches are coaching there butts off.

But you can only take the beatings for so long before the players and coaches get so frustrated that in becomes a distraction.
I have been hearing some rumors (from a really good source) that Indian Valley and Tusky Valley want to explore options away from the PAC. I have heard that they want to start a league with some other teams down that way. If this does happen...it seems to be the best option moving forward and getting out of the OCC. We would just need the other members in the PAC to be sold that Orrville is a good addition...and that is the toughest part of it all!

Can't see it happening. Would probably be good but they are not going to allow us in. We are on an island.

I think most schools in the conference would welcome you.
  • Old Rider
^^^ Another 8-10 years in our current league will be the end of football at Orrville! Kids in the middle school have to win games to keep them interested. We have pretty good numbers in the middle school now and some good talent, BUT...it still only equates to a couple of wins for each team every year.

You said it....MOST....not ALL. And thats where the buck stops. I sure hope ALL would say yes because that is what it would take! I truly DO NOT believe that Triway, Manchester, Tuslaw, or Fairless would say YES. Not because of football, but because of our current and (future) success in girls athletics. Our 7th, 8th, and Frosh volleyball teams have lost a combined 3 games.

I will keep fingers crossed. We NEED to be in the PAC.

There will have to be some major league realignments, but I don't know that that will get to the root of the problem. I don't see Lexington winning a game this year. How many of those kids come back out next season? I also heard from a friend that Clear Fork cancelled the remainder of their JV and freshman games. That's not good. I think you can stick a fork in the OCC. It isn't workable for anybody. Some schools don't have teams, and the schools who do have them don't have anybody to play!
  • Old Rider
Pit...Have you heard anything about the rumors I heard regarding the two Valley schools wanting to leave and/or form their own league?

Orrville also cancelled the remainder of their JV schedule. I agree with you jaco...the OCC is done! Time for the whole league to start looking for some major change!

I'm very confident my school would vote Yes to bring in Orrville. We wouldn't shy away from the success your girls' sports have had. But yes, there definitely are other bottlenecks in the conference, though.

As for IV and TV, there have been talks for years that they're looking elsewhere. But until the ECOL or whatever other conferences are down there shake up, I don't know if I see that happening. I really think within the next 5 years there will be a significant, long-term shake-up to area conferences such as the OCC, PAC, NBC, ECOL, etc (excluding the WCAL).

I'm all ears for proposed leagues that factor in size, travel, and competitiveness in all sports.

Does anonymous In Orrville mean provide the initials?? Coach Davault's job as well as the other staff members is to make these kids better in Week 10 than Week 1 regardless of talent. I don't think anyone in their right mind thought this team would win more than 3 games this year. It's not the wins or losses look back a few years I had no use for the guy when he was winning. He won't be the head coach much longer this I know. And no RRfan I won't attend a practice it is pointless. I've seen enough to know for the 5th or 6th straight year they won't be better in Week 10 than Week 1! Simple math!!

Do you want to blow up the entire coaching staff or just the head coach?

Nation needs to get together with Hunter, Buckz#1, and a few others and help solve all the world's problems. Ooops...I better be careful or we may see another video dedicated to me...: thumbup:

Will you at least promise to have the balls to show up on here when the next head coach isn't winning because of the talent level also?

Agree that the OCC is done. Was praying that Wooster officials would at least apply or show some interest in the Suburban League.
