Weather much less a factor now than before. No mud, no dirt, better footing even if wet.

Gameday bitches! DR has the Knights tabbed to win 8-1. I'm going with the Knights too. Hope it's an injury free game tonight, and that the rain holds off!!
  • jaco
Yeah, this could be a runaway train tonight. Rain doesn't affect footing, but it does grip on the ball (which will weight 10 pounds by night's end). It's going to be a "ground and pound" game, which heavily favors W. Holmes. Turnovers and field position could be huge in this one.

Interesting match up of the night is Ashland and Mansfield Sr. I can't believe the DR picked Mansfield 9-0 to win that game. I'd never sleep on Ashland. They're always a well coached football team.

Damn, I like how you roll!!

My footballer graduated and is onto the next level, but my youngest is a senior and in the band.

170 in the WH band I heard. May outnumber fans in the stands if the weather gets bad.

Good luck to the Red Riders tonight.

I am as frustrated as you! Its sad. We are thin and it has never been this bad in the 37 years I have been breathing. I sure hope we can get back to our old ways.

Last 2 weeks...we've given up 987 yds on defense. About 750 of that has been on the ground.

There isn't a personnel change or coaching scheme that could change the fact that could make those #'s better.

If there is, you better show up to films tomorrow & let the coaches know what it is....but we all know there isn't.

I bet if you invite some of our Golden Bear "faithful" they would show up to films and let you know how to build a winning program again.

WH is clicking, Orrville is now going through what all schools have gone through. Zero skilled kids overall, and lack in size. And the fan support you showed last night terrible. WH brought more fans than RR faithful.

Its been that way in Orrville for years-more people in Jerry's last night for the Waynedale/Chippewa game than the Orrville game. I won the 50/50 last night and it was a whopping $83! The program will be gone in a few years. Less and less kids participating and that will continue. Nobody wants to line up against kids that are twice their size and get punished. Somebody needs to wake up in Orrville and make some changes because rather than complaining about bad football you will be complaining about NO football!!

I grew up in and graduated from Orrville. After raising my children i decided to come back to my hometown to watch Orrville football on Friday nights. I CANT BELIEVE how upset I am about the quality of the program! I heard many negative things about Orrville football prior to going to the first game of the season, but i chose to see for myself. Wow were these people right! First of all, do we even have an head coach

That question leads me to this .........I grew up in and graduated from Orrville. After raising my children, i recently came back to my hometown to watch the football games on Friday nights. Wow am I upset about this program! Do we even have a coach ? So far this season, I've been to every game. I can hear the opposing teams coaches coaching and adjusting their defense to the same 4 plays that orrville runs every single game. I don't hear anything from our coaches! Half of the time i see our head coach off on the sidelines by himself somewhere. what is up with that? and another thing, where are all of our players? Are you telling me that Orrville football is so screwed up that the students don't even want to play? Ive heard a lot of negativity about the football program in Orrville over the last couple of years but I wanted to go see for myself. Boy oh boy was everyone that told me those negative things right on the money! It is so sad!! So If Orrville is going to continue to play football, will someone PLEASE teach the team how to BLOCK AND TACKLE!!!!!! Finally, Orrville has a beautiful stadium and plenty of fans at heart. They just don't want to see the same performance over and over. Maybe cleaning house and starting fresh will help fix the problems!

I will end my Orrville 2014 experience on this:

I have a good friend who is an assistant coach for West Holmes. He texted me Saturday morning saying this:

"Dude Doug Davault has to go! He has run this program into the ground. He thinks he knows the game of football but after coaching across from him last night he doesn't have a clue"

I replied that I have said that for several years and he said "I know but I will finally say you are right"

"Many OCC coaches are saying the same thing"

I just wanted you all to get a perspective from someone who is on the same level. Word for word that is what my text messages said
Out of respect for my friend I will leave his name anonymous but thought I would share.
  • jaco
It probably is time for Davault to go just to try and change the culture. But there isn't a coach alive who could manufacture many more wins than he'll get this year with this group of athletes. They're not bad kids, either. It's just a serious downswing in talent.

If you don't have horses, you won't win races. Right now, Orrville simply has nothing in the pipeline. It's a tough pill to swallow after all the years of success, but what really surprised me was the total lack of fan support at the game on Friday. WH had double the fans at the game.

You'll turn it around, and in no time will be back to kicking tail.
  • RedRider1
    300,
If you don't have horses....IT'S THE COACHES FAULT!!! Don't you know that by now??? :)

    RRN,
    Are his initials KC??

I get the reason for installing the spread..we aren't going to line up in the "I" & push anyone around in the OCC...but a new system is going to have growing pains, and with a dip in talent, those "growing pains" are 40 point losses.

The big difference in this dip is there isn't that 1 class that does have talent & depth to bring things back quickly...we've had a few thin "football" classes in a row & this is the cumulative result. There are numbers in the 9th grade....the 7th/8th grade teams have a nice core...there's also a group of 6th graders that have had good success in boys club tackle ball...so it's coming....just may not be for another few years. It's going to require patience....and it may all change by the time these kids are ready to contribute at the varsity level.

Anyone with half a brain can see our numbers in the junior & sophomore class. It's really thin. We may not have 20 kids TOTAL in 10th-12th grades next year. Not sure Nick Saban could right the ship.

"Clearing house" sounds easy until you look at reality. It means you'd have to find ~10 new coaches (already in the school system preferably) and that's just not realistic. Most of our coaches played here & in college..they're some of the last connections to our great years...and they know football....and they're willing to put in the time required....some volunteer to go through all this. They should be thanked....not replaced.

As of today, the remaining 2 JV games of the season have been cancelled due to numbers/injuries. That's concerning because the frosh/soph we do have don't get reps. It's a vicious cycle.
