4.6 is not going to get him anywhere either...Buckeyefan34;1438736 wrote:My point exactly. Since when does 20 catches for 200 yards and 5 TDs in a season get you a d1 offer. Kid might run a 4.6 on the track but that doesnt mean that translates into football speed. Completly different kinds of speed. I don't believe he was blowing anyone awayon the football field which makes me think this offer cant be legit. -

I'd have no problem believing this.WCALfootballfan;1438703 wrote:This "Dennis offer" was a big topic of discussion around the fire on Saturday night. The word that is spreading in my area is that Bill Dennis did in fact call in a favor. He is friends with one of the coaches on Akron's staff and the offer has 1 big stipulation. The kid can't accept it. Ha. What I'm hearing is that they offered him as a favor to try and generate some interest from other schools. I know alot of people in coaching and this kind of thing is common. No disrespect to the kid but he is definitely not D1 talent. -
CCRollyNo way...

Lol, if this is the case, I'm astounded. Funny things going on these days...WCALfootballfan;1438703 wrote:This "Dennis offer" was a big topic of discussion around the fire on Saturday night. As far as Norwayne's team last year, Beery was no where near the best player on that team. The Harris kid will play D1 for sure and I wouldn't be suprised to see Berger on the field playing at Akron within the next 2 years. He can definitely play there. -
samsam14Heard threw the saltmine Dennis said Rittman PD is beefing up security due to the fact Nick Saban is flying in to Wadsworth-Rittman Airport to look at a new WR who can take alot of pressure off of his power run game.LMAO

BobcatTo say that this whole thing stinks would be an understatement. There is no way possible that this is a legitimate offer. I'm not even sure that I would clasify this kid as an impact player in the WCAL. I had to pull my paper back out and read it again. Obviously there is a connection between Dennis and someone on Akrons staff. The worst thing about the whole thing is some of Dennis' comments. You've got to be kidding me. You pull a fast one to get you're kid a bogus offer then you go to the newspaper with the great news! Is this guy for real? It's starting to become clear why everyone in Millersburg was out to get this guy. I think he pulled a similar stunt down there with his older son. It looks like the BS that takes place in college football has actually made it's way into little Wayne County. The guy from Akron that offered this kid must be brain dead.........DIV1. HAHA

samsam14Just curious did Tressel or Bowden marry a Dennis? LOL

K-DOG86I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person to find this article humorous and unbelievable! Bottom line is this kid does NOT have the size nor talent to play D1. His Dad lives in a dream state of mind, not only in his son's ability, but in his own coaching ability! Not to mention listing him at 5'10 165lbs is a stretch! Have any of you seen this kid? He wasn't even the fastest kid on the Rittman team either! FACT: MAMA DENNIS WORKS FOR TRESSEL AT AKRON U!

You know, these sorts of antics by dad/coach are what's worst about high school athletics. He can't just let this kid have a nice high school career and be done. This is all about dad's ego, not the kid's best interests. He's put his son in a very embarassing position. -
WCALfootballfanMy understanding is that the kid was on twitter bragging about it also. The whole thing is pathetic. You squeeze what appears to be a fake offer out of a buddy to try to trick other teams into offering you. That part I can almost understand. Dirty...yes, but you're trying to use your position to help out your kid. The part that is pathetic is the fact that you call all of the newspapers and your kid hits twitter like he's a big man. That part is pathetic and self serving. At the end of the day, most of the people who are on here have probably seen the kid play. He simply is not good enough to play at that level.
-
K-DOG86That's the bad thing, he believes he's as good as his Dads told him! They BOTH need a big reality check! Can't wait for the season to start! By 2 a days, every other team in the W.C.A.L. will be very excited to play Rittman! Looks like another LONG year for the Indians, and the Dennis'!

Buckeyefan34Well said. No d1 recruiter or anyone on this site (besides doghouse Riley) can honestly sit back in their chair and tell themselves Akron is getting a better deal from Dennis rather than berger. This is a total lack of respect to the league, other players, coaches, and the town of rittman.
Now I want to know if he will get away with lying to the papers. -
Buckeyefan34http://ohiostate.scout.com/2/251014.html
found this article about the older dennis son. Sounds like bill dennis was pretty delusional about his older son making it big time. did he even take a single snap at morehead state? -
Dr. KnOiTaLLI know that he transferred to Glenville State and in the 2006 season was 1/1 passing for 2 yards, and he had 2 rushes for 6 yards.
-
jaco
That is classic. OSU, Northwestern, Toledo..all that was missing was the SEC. And he wound up at Glenville State??Buckeyefan34;1442907 wrote:http://ohiostate.scout.com/2/251014.html

What he's done with this son is put a big target on his back now. I'll be shocked if he has a dozen receptions on the year. Defenses will shoot for shut outs on him. -
WCALfootballfanI think most of his catches were against other teams 2's and 3's. I dont think they ever actually throw the ball down field to him. From what I hear they basically throw it in flats to him. I think he's afraid to actually catch a ball in traffic

K-DOG86Just wondering, has doghouse Riley built a bigger mail-box yet for "all the other offers to follow" yet?
-
doghouse riley
What the heck are you talking about? All I said was that DI colleges don't hand out scholarships as favors. BTW, some people posted right after me agreeing. I don't have any idea how Akron picks their recruits and who they offer. And why would I need a bigger mailbox?K-DOG86;1444528 wrote:Just wondering, has doghouse Riley built a bigger mail-box yet for "all the other offers to follow" yet?
Having attended a lot of WCAL games, I would be more likely to believe that the kid can get offers in basketball, but I'm not second guessing Akron. Just my opinion but I'm a much bigger hoops fan anyway.
You should probably check some facts as well. According to Rittman Schools, "Mama Dennis" works at Rittman Elementary, not for Tressel. -
K-DOG86WOW! Did I hit a nerve doghouse. I'm sorry, let me be more clear-Blake's Grandma works for Tressel. Now he's a hoops star?
-
doghouse rileyThat's what you should have said in the first place then, instead of using the word "FACT" because it clearly wasn't one. Not that I doubt you but I may have to check the whole Tressel thing since it sounds a bit dubious to me.
You didn't hit a nerve at all. Why, did I sound mad? Never said the kid was a hoops star. Just think he's better at hoops. As I said, I'm a little biased because I'm more of a basketball fan. -
Red RumDubious is defined as "hesitating, doubting or suspect". (Good word doghouse)
It's no secret I've always thought Bill Dennis was "dubious" in his abilities and actions as a head coach. Reading the Bucknuts article quotes from 2004 attributed to Mr. Dennis did nothing to change that.
I want to make it clear I wish the Dennis boy all the best, but I just find this whole scholarship thing "dubious".
It doesn't make alot of sense to me for Akron to offer an underclassman, who is not especially big, didn't have jaw dropping stats and doesn't seem to have D1 afterburner speed, a scholarship.
I'm no expert but if a kid doesn't make it out of a high school D3 track district, how would one judge him to have D1 college speed? Too many things just don't add up here. This smells like a Bill Dennis shenanigan......something he has a history of.
I hope the young Dennis has a breakout season and proves the vast majority on here wrong. Being a WCAL fan it's always nice to see a local get a scholarship of any kind. I think the young Dennis has the ability to play at the next level, but I think his football future rests more in the DIII or NAIA ranks. I just can't see the D1 thing. I guess that's why they have guys on the payroll to make those calls and I am just a casual fan. -
FlashHas anyone played D1 from Rittman before? I remember a Hall in the late 60's that may have played for Kent.
-
1_beastShenanigans. Good word Red Rum.

pdracerWell being a Rittmanite, I found this just as funny as the majority of you guys.
Now let me start off by saying that I DO NOT have a son old enough to play High School ball yet, so I have no ax to grind here. What I do know is that from the time this family moved to Rittman, we have been told time and time again what great athletes the kids are. His daughter was supposed to be an all star volleyball player and started Varsity her freshman year. I watched a number of games and she wasn't bad, but was not a varsity player by any stretch of the imagination. Then all I read about in the papers was how she was going to turn around the girls basketball team all by herself. Unfortunately an injury at the end of the V Ball season stopped us from witnessing that miracle.
For the last two years I have been to every Indians Football game. Not once have I observed what ever it was that Akron saw on the "films" they watched. Time after time, I watched this young man lose yards and drop passes. I watched as other players slowly moved the ball down field so the Coaches kid could get the final catch for the T.D. Lets not even get started on his first year here, when he was the all star QB. Now the newest rumor is that Daddy might actually be putting him back in the QB spot this year. Say it aint so Billy, so it aint so! -
K-DOG86VERY WELL SAID pdracer! I too saw the same things you witnessed, as well as how he ran backwards as a QB trying to AVOID hits! The daughter...well I'm glad there are others who are anxiously waiting to see the "miracles" she "will perform" Heck, we may see her at Baylor to replace B. Griner! That we will have to wait and see. Speaking of waiting, still waiting for the "best thing to walk thru the doors at Rittman High" as stated by doghouse, ooops, Bill Dennis upon their arrival in Rittman. Maybe this year?
