2012 Wayne County Athletic League Football
-
Red RumCongrats to Wallace. It's a pretty big honor to play in the north/south game.
Anybody heard any word on Norwayne getting turf?
or is that just a bunch of BS? -
dhs22pSorry if this is late....and I know this is a WCAL thread but:
Conference members have verified to us via email that the OCC could be seeing some changes in the very near future.
from the email - Orrville is considering a league change that would reduce their travel and that the remaining OCC schools have discussed possible replacements and their individual options.

THE4RINGZThere is no way I can see Orrville joining the WCAL. Simply not.competitve enough for them year in and year out.

Its got to be the PAC then right? I agree there is no way they can go to the WCAL.THE4RINGZ;1060699 wrote:There is no way I can see Orrville joining the WCAL. Simply not.competitve enough for them year in and year out. -
THE4RINGZThe PAC doesn't really cut down the travel..Manchester, CVCA, Indian Valley, and Tusky Valley have to be as much travel as the current OCC.
-
iced earthOrrville, Wooster, and West Holmes are going to get the boot from the OCC. Look for them to start their own conference of some sort.
I've approached OCC schools about helping start high school bowling programs, because right now only Wooster and Lexington have teams. They asked me why I cared because Wooster wasn't going to be in the conference next year anyways!
A thread on the huddle rumored talks were happening including CCC, Dover, and New Philly.
THE WCAL IS FINE THE WAY IT IS! I could eventually see Triway wanting in if they get their building and money issues sorted out. They have to hate the travel they do now. -
THE4RINGZI see the OCC picking up Shelby, but no other teams fit geographically. Bucyrus and Galion don't seem to fit. Colonel Crawfod is too small, Upper Sandusky is too far away. Do they look south instead of west?
Wooster, Orrville, West Holmes is a nice core group for a new league. Maybe add Northwest? And Dover Philly would be great.
Triway only ditches the PAC for the WCAL.
Of course, IMO -
dhs22pI think the OCC could pick Marion Harding as well. Ya Northwest has to be in the mix since they don't have a league currently. That sounds like a nice a league that probably needs another team or 2. Im also interested to see where Loudonville goes.
-
THE4RINGZMarion Harding would be a nice fit in the new OCC.
Mt. Vernon?
I like Cloverleaf in Wooster's new league too. -
Red RumIf Marion Harding returns, the OCC will start looking alot like the old OHC.
I have a feeling alot of realigning is going to occur as budgets tighten.
It wouldn't surprise me to see some districts combine or be divided up among surrounding districts. Up in my area, Cloverleaf & Black River have serious financial issues. River is already pay to play and the leaf is on the verge of getting taken over by the state.
I have to wonder if these 2 districts will be around in 5-10 years much less have athletic programs.
Wooster, Orrville, West Holmes & Northwest make a nice nucleus for a conference. Haven't the latter 3 been in several conferences together before?
I like the idea of bringing Triway & Loudonville into the WCAL. I doubt it will ever be considered because 8 is a nice size and why fix something that isn't broken. -
1_beastOrrville cant hang in the WCAL....they would be competitive in football...occasionally BB and track....The WCAL isnt lil brother any more....Orrville hasnt beat a WCAL team in football in 30 years .
Triway and Loudonville dont add much either...unless you boot Rittman and.....Chippewa.
Eight teams is a perfect storm. -

No Way! A few years ago they were to GOOD for the WCAL. Now they are not GOOD ENUFF. The WCAL is fine. Triway can merge with WOO and become Woo south. wc expertOrrville may be looking to leave but Wooster isnt. What would be the purpose of that?

Wooster really is the odd man out here due to its size. Tough to find another competitve league in the area. -

I think you misunderstood my point about Triway. -
1486wdwhat about a wooster, orrville, west holmes, northwest, CCC, dover, new philly, and one more that's interested (Triway, cloverleaf, wadsworth, mount vernon, coshocton, someone else?). That would be a 8 team league and less travel (CCC to WH is still a trip, but everywhere's a trip to WH).
I can also see orrville and WH being more interested in leaving than wooster - the size of schools are decent for wooster and the drives are better for them than the other 2. I do think Triway and Loudonville would make the WCL a nice 10 team league, but at the same time if it ain't broke... -
dhs22pI think these 8 would be a decent league: Orrville, Wooster, West Holmes, CCC, Dover, New Philly, Northwest, and Barberton. 3 of those teams aren't in a league (CCC, NW, Barberton) So the possibility of a league like this could happen. I just threw Barberton in there cause I know there an Indy.
-
OQBSince we're on the topic of proposed leagues....This is the league I would like to see:
Canton South
Copley/Louisville
CCC/West Holmes
Dover
New Philly
Northwest
Orrville
Wooster -
TCBI'm all for Wooster leaving the OCC. There are no natural geographic rivalries outside of Orrville and West Holmes. The typical away game is "drive west toward Mansfield, then get lost for 45 minutes".
-
Bobcat2 points to make
#1 why would anyone in their right mind think that the Pac is a better league then the WCAL? The Pac champ would not be able to beat the WCAL champ
#2 Does anyone else see the "mystique" of Orrville is starting to diminish? I see Orrville shrinking and becoming less competetive. The district continues to get smaller. A few of the WCAL teams are growing and Orrvilles getting smaller. I think they dump a couple schools and pick up a couple. I thik Orrville fits into the WCAl in a few years and Rittman leaves. This is my opinion of course but I'm interested in everyones thoughts -
BobcatI'm also hearing rumors that there is a big time QB transfering to the Norwayne district next year. Actually I've heard rumors about 3 different QB's but one rumor actually sounds serious. Has anyone heard anything about it? If you toss a big time QB in with what Norwayne has returning on offfense and watchout!!! Norwayne could be unbelievable again. Their receiving corps will be incredible next year
-
1486wdthese days, noone can transfer in and play the same year, they have to actually establish residence. If that's what's happening, I have no problem with it, people move. However, I really hate to see jumping around for sports reasons. We have largely avoided this in Wayne County (other than a few wrestling circumstances)and our leagues have been more competitive and enjoyable because of that.
-
oh yeah!!Norwayne will be just as competitive next year with or without any new transfers .... the program is reloading not rebuilding
-
dontcare
Well isn't that interesting........Bobcat;1061562 wrote:I'm also hearing rumors that there is a big time QB transfering to the Norwayne district next year.
