Mr. RussellActually Red Rum, I think they are already getting a pass if you want the truth.
I am not defending anything about Bill Dennis as a coach, I have only seen him coach 3 games. But what I am saying is that we all get the point. What coach would have won more games with that team this year? Who else would they have beat? I honestly don't know, I am asking.
As far as you wanting Rittman's program to turn around and feeling some bitterness towards this coach, I get it. I am going through something similar right now with a certain program. -
thedemoralizer7
red rum, i agree with u on these issues! i just dont agree with people refering to him as poop because whether i like it or not dennis is the coach at rittman next year and im going to have to accept that, but maybe i am cutting dennis some slack right now because football season is over and his son is actually a pretty decent basketball player.Red Rum;1028405 wrote:On the Dennis issue, I'm with OQB,
I really don't care if he is a nice guy. I don't care if he helps old ladies across the street. I want to see the Rittman football program back on its feet and I don't think Dennis has anything to offer.
I must have missed the memo where the posters on this thread became a bunch of politically correct sissies. Since when did anyone get a pass for being a nice guy?
When the Smithville story comes out, what happens if the judas who took out Schrocks knees is a nice person? Will they get a pass? Mr. Russell.
Norwayne won the state title and demoralizer gave no quarter.
I'll gladly apologize for everything I said about Dennis when he shows even the faintest spark of head coaching ability. Until then, he's open game. Nice guy or not.
however, i agree 100 percent with you on the issue of dennis turning rittmans program around. Just look at his record! its not good! West holmes was just a phone call away, and our superintendent, (being from the orrville) should of made that call and hear what some west holmes folks thought of him. Any coach who has a son on the team is just bad news IMO. Do i think dennis is a good coach?.. not at all but im going to have to accept it for the next few years.
and everyone knows by now that i am not very fond of norwayne and this is why.. first off i think its ridiculous and unfair how you can throw a rock to rittman high school but yet your still in the norwayne district which makes me think norwayne is set up for succuss. Where does your typical quality wayne county family want to live? Out in the country? (norwayne) or in a recently struggling industrial city? (rittman). of course they are going to want to live out in the country. but rittman has none! but anyway it was about 2-3 years ago and i had a relative playing for rittman. i went and watched him as they were playing doylestown. While i was at the game i saw a few members of the norwayne administration there (not mentioning any names) and they were talking to a few parents from rittman who had sons of the team. after they were done talking i asked one of the rittman parents who had a son on the team who was pretty furious about the conversation that just took place and he told me that they were trying to persuade his their family to move to norwayne saying rittmans football program will never rise again and it is hopeless to stay. made me pretty furious. i bet smithville or waynedale fans would not appreciate that to much. Red Rum, you want to see rittman's program rise but with this crap going on its never going to happen! -
doghouse rileyRummy,
You're right it is your opinion. I'm glad he's here and he and the team have my support. I'm not going to judge him on a season. I don't think anyone considered us a contender this past year. It will probably take time.
Not sure why you have your shorts in a bunch though. You equate a coach to something in a toilet and you get mad when people take issue with that. Your boy asks a question, it is answered, and you get bent out of shape. Lighten up Francis. -
Mr. RussellAs far as other people to get the Smithville job, it really is tough until you see who applies. I know many assistants in the area who I would love to apply. Also, I am intrigued on how this coach will be hired. The basketball coach was hired by a committee, so I am assuming the football coach would be?

elitesmithie05The first order of business would be to fire the principal and the superintendent.....

It's very noble of you to defend Dennis. I understand that the situation isn't going to change and for a diehard like yourself it leaves only one real choice. Which is deal with the situation and support it the best you can. Being from Northwestern and remembering the 90's, I have been in similar shoes.
doghouse-
I'm not even remotely close to being mad. I also usually go commando, so the bunched panties thing doesn't apply. Chafing is more of a worry.
However, I love to argue and welcome spirited debate and even malicious, foul name calling.
I wasn't kidding when I said you pegged me. I am classless and I do like to goof on things.
demoralizer & doghouse-
I'm not sorry for the Poop comparisons and can't promise I won't do it again. I think it will make you guys tougher, and god knows you're going to need thick skin next season.
I do hope Rittman & Dennis prove me wrong and win 5 or 6 games next year. I just can't see it from my vantage point. Good Luck Anyway.
Mr. Russell-
I'm probably in the minority, but I thought Rittman had some talented kids. They weren't going to challenge for the title or anything but with an offense more suited to their personnel, they may have been respectable and notched another victory or 2. Some of the blowouts definitely could have been avoided. I guess what I'm saying is, if Miyagi can predict your next play 3 times in a row, a high school defensive coordinator is going to eat you alive. Unfortunately, that happened to Rittman a bunch last season.
also, bummer about the mess over in Smithville. Schrock deserved better than the circus he's getting now. Jan 10th will be interesting. -
THE4RINGZDennis reminds me of Shurmer as a coach there in Rittman. Running his system regardless of who is on the team has pretty predictable results. Maybe as a first year coach he didn't do his homework to see what athletes he had coming up. However, one quality above average coaches have is adaptability, he seemed more stoic in his offensive game plans this past season. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and see what kind of team he trots out on the field next fall. However, I will still poke fun of his play calling.

agreedRed Right 21;1028399 wrote:I never said anything about an inferior coach. It just means the hiring committee needs to do a good job of sourcing candidates and not take the easy way out! If they have a teaching position I would prefer they go out and find the best coach that they can to fill that opening. Call me old school but there is a lot of merit in having a certified educator that is in the building as the head coach. It builds better rapport with student’s staff and administrators. They can also take care of issues that pop up and keep them from getting out of control!

Turned their program around and got the school's first playoff win ever. So I guess you'll be quiet now right? Yeah right.
You bash the hell out of the guy and he's been here a whole 10 games. Give the guy a chance (especially considering what he inherited).
BTW, no way he goes to Smithieland. Just a few goofs on here putting 2+2 together and getting 5.

Bloody ToothbrushOn the subject of prochecy by poop.....
It clearly doesn't work but it sure gets people fired up. Full Troll Points to Red Rum on that count.
On the subject of Rittman Football.....
Horrible coaching, horrible system and some decent athletes. It didn't have to be as bad as it was last season. I doubt this season will be much better. A new vision is needed....
one that plays to the strengths of the players and not to the fantasies of Billy Dennis. He called his offense "fun & gun".....I called it "3 and out".
On the subject of Chippewa Football....
A new vision isn't needed. That would imply someone had it to begin with. Vision is needed. The program has been blindly stumbling along the last decade. Let's hope whoever is in charge can get it turned around.
On the subject of Dalton Football.....
This Doty guy is going to be alright. It won't happen overnight because Daltons player pool isn't big enough, but it will happen. Dalton will return to its former glory as a D6 playoff contender. The Bulldogs did the most with the least this past season. It gives me a good feeling about the future in Dalton.
On the subject of Northwestern Football....
I'm told that NWN has a 2 year window to get another WCAL championship before hard times once again befall the program. I don't believe it. I personally think they played another exceptionally tough non conference schedule and could have been a .500 team last year. Thut is a good coach and will get the most out of his talent. Northwestern will continue to grow and improve. A bad 7th or 8th grade team doesn't have to translate into a bad high school team 4 or 5 years later.....
That's my take on the bottom half of the league as it stood last year.
and finally.......
The smell in Smithville......
Voters unite! Hold the school board accountable.....
if they say they didn't know about Schrocks treatment....tell them they should have.
if they hired ego driven, power hungry administrators......tell them to correct that situation
if they wanted to go in a new direction, you don't agree with.............remember that at election time
The one major tragedy here is the poor handling of this situation. Even if it was time for Schrock to go, treating a 35 year employee the way they did is inexcusable. -

agreed.. his play calling just had me scratching my head every play. It was just absolutley awful. no misdirection, counters, etc. was just a straight handoff up the middle every time and dont get me started on the screen pass! when rittman had 18 players on their team in 2007 with 6 freshman starting, their offense produced better than this year. How rittman beat chippewa i have no clue but the defense kept them in alot of games this year. IMO if besancon would of stayed, rittman would of went 3-7 or 4-6 this year.Bloody Toothbrush;1028745 wrote:On the subject of prochecy by poop.....
