Orrville Red Rider Football 2012

RedRider1We were already down Summers, then JZ & BJ get dinged...hope it was just precautionary keeping them both out. Going to be a long season if we can't keep our key guys healthy.
Those 3 are 2 way players so it's like having 6 guys injured.
Run defense needs some shoring up...DB's shouldn't be making a lot of run stops.
Liked Lichti's poise & accuracy. -
RedRider1Congrats to Mason Monheim on being "de-striped" today at Illinois' fall camp. All frosh have a white stripe on their helmet to signify their newcomer status. Losing that stripe means youre doing something right. Its an achievement and also a rite of passage of sorts. I believe he was the 5th Illini frosh to earn that honor.

youngfart67What was score
-
RedRider1Minerva scored twice on our 1's and we scored once. I noticed on our score that 4 of their regulars weren't playing...but by that point, neither were several of our normal 1's.
-
RedRider1Field is starting to take shape. Plastic was removed yesterday since track work is done (all but striped)...and the colors of the field and track really pop.
Bleacher wrap is finishing up as is the fencing.
Concrete work at the north end ticket booths and shot put area is being paid for by the turf company.
We're a little over a week away from the first JV game...amazing isnt it? -
OQBI heard some people talking at the scrimmage Saturday that the track will be off limits for the football season....no more standing along the track to watch the games and no walking from one end to the other. Any truth to that?
-
rrfanOQB- I doubt it. The way the stadium is built you have to be able to walk on the track to get through to the bleachers.
-
OQBThat's what I was thinking as well....I was just wondering if their was any truth to it.
-
RedRider1I haven't heard one way or the other.
If they did restrict track access, they'd have to open that gate on either side of the reserved section & people would be crossing back & forth all the time. That would get annoying quick...especially for people that pay the 'big bucks' for reserved seats.
It's always been this way but that's not the way the visitor section is. Maybe in the name of a new track, they change it up. -
OQBWhen does the Daily Record football preview come out?

Pretty sure a week from today.OQB;1248326 wrote:When does the Daily Record football preview come out? -

Red RumI was in the Orrville vicinity yesterday and couldn't resist doing a drive by to check out the stadium...
and Holy BeJesus, the area all around it is tore up from the floor up!
It looks like it could be a parking nightmare for the turf debut. Any thoughts on when things will get back to normal (construction wise) around there?
9/21 against Mans Sr?....or West Holmes? -
Old Rider
It was the same situation as last year and I think the parking thing really wasnt as bad as everyone thought it would be. The street closest to the field will be open for our first home game and then the remaining sectionh of that street closest to Main St will then be closed for repave. Parking is available at the middle school, elementary school, the grass lot behind the stadium, Orr park, and the church lot across from the park. May have to walk a little farther.Red Rum;1248459 wrote:I was in the Orrville vicinity yesterday and couldn't resist doing a drive by to check out the stadium...

riders1At the scrimmage it looked like the rails were solid all along the front of the stands ( no openings for steps up from the track ) so it appeared like you have to enter the stands from the ends of the bleachers and walk all the way across the front of the seats, which would be interesting with all the kid traffic in and out all night.

BRFWell, I got my first up close look today. Simply amazing. The team has a lot to live up to with that kind of venue. I feel a little sad that the great teams of the past couldn't have played on something like that. Oh well, just enjoy.
When I was there this morning, people were walking all over the track. -
RedRider1Yeah the track is open for business...just don't know if, in the name of preserving the integrity of the track, they plan on restricting access.
Question to all: should the downtown tailgate thing be moved to the stadium in future years? Can do the same thing they do now & allow fans access to the turf for pictures. Booster Club could sell gear/merchandise & each coach could introduce his team/captains. Plus fans could sit in bleachers instead of stand in a parking lot. -
BRFGood thought, RR1.

RiderpowerThought it was really neat that the Historical Society opened the doors tonight and had Red Rider stuff on exhibit for us to check out.
I'm sure that once all of the construction is done to the High School and everything is back in order you'll see all of the extra Red Rider functions being held at the school. The Tailgate party each year has always been more for the Booster Club to get the community to come out to support the Riders and help generate more funds but mostly the only people who come are parents that have kids in fall sports.... Maybe having something like a media day at the stadium where there is stuff to do for all age groups would be more of a draw for the Booster Club and at the same time it would get the youngsters involved in the Red Rider traditions. -
CCRollyThe field looks great fella's. The Orrville community should be proud of itself. Not sure if we can get anything like that started over here without Rubbermaid now. Good luck next Friday!

rrfanA couple of thoughts: 1.) The parking last year was really not a problem for any of the home games. 2.) If all the foot traffic has to go though the stands, it is going to be awfully hard to get in and out of the stands. 3.) RR1 I like the idea of the tailgate being at the stadium, however if that tailgate helps downtown businesses in any way I would be for keeping it down there.

The event was at the Depot Parking lot. No downtown business had food for sale there & I don't think Expert T's had a table set up.rrfan;1249361 wrote:. 3.) I'd say the financial impact on the downtown area was minimal. I'm sure some people ate at Jerry's, but other than that, there was no impact.
The event was impacted by the rib fest, and promotion of the event was non existent. -
Old Rider
Darren Wasnewski in charge of that tailgate thing or is it on the booster club? If DW is in charge then get it out of his hands and let the booster club hold it at the field!RedRider1;1249374 wrote:The event was at the Depot Parking lot. RedRider1It's a Main Street Orrville organized event...not the Booster Club.

RedRider1Picture day was today. Finally talked the photo takers into getting the kids on their feet & leaving an empty row between each row of players. Makes us look like we have more numbers.
