Badah Bing!! hahahaha.... Maybe that'll tick 'em off enough to get e turf project started.

On a serious note..I found a website listing instances of turf vandalism...and I didn't see one case where the cost to repair damages was UNDER $5000.

Like 5knots said...is it worth it to pull a "prank" that might cost junior, and juniors parents, 5 grand or more? If you set fire to the field, it's arson...and probably criminal trespassing to boot.

I'm not even sure Wooster cares about the rivalry anymore.... They haven't shown up to play us since 2004!!!

I stopped by for my first closeup look at this amazing transformation and just had to pause and let it soak in that is is really happening in our little community. Saw 5knots making a walk around and getting a good look also. Thanks to all who made this a reality and lets support our Red Riders and coaches this season as we begin to make new and lasting memories on our new field!

Also was glad to see that there was no "a" in Red Riders in the end zone!

I thought about that whole "prank" conversation before all this started. I hope kids can be smart enough to stay away from something like that now. That is not grass that will just grow back in a few weeks.

    Field is looking great.

    Or dress as a raccoon.

This clearly gives Orrville the advantage in Week 10 pranks, as Riders can still mess with Woo's field...LOL.....Wooster is limited to the bridge or just a sidewalk/parking lot painting

Stopped by the field today over lunch. Looks beautiful! Looks like different turf for the field than is on the sidelines. What are all those big white bags? The rubber to lay down and sift through the grass once all pieces are cut and glued?
  • Drums of War
That looks absolutely awesome guys. I cant wait to see it in 2013. Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks at our place!

Yes those are the rubber infill pellets...almost 400,000 pounds worth.

And I think the sideline turf looks different because it was rolled north and south and not east and west like the other strips. Once they infill & brush/rake the fibers it will look the same.
  • RedRider1
Workers were starting the rubber infill process...it's a 3-day process. If no heavy rain, they will be done on Monday.

Bleacher wrap to be finished next week and track crew will come back to do latex overlay.

Track & field will be off limits while the latex overlay cures...please do not cross the track to get to the field while this process is happening.

Picture below shows rubber as it is laid down and the front of the endzone shows it after it has been raked in..quite a difference.

5knots;1234605 wrote:Well if that happens with amount of money invloved you may just be committing a felony instead of a stupid little prank like killing grass. Better ask yourself "is it worth it?"
RedRider1;1234610 wrote:All the more reason for new fencing and security cameras. Probably wont be treated like a petty crime either.

I hate to say it, but Serpentini field is undefended against air attack.
Any of those rich Wooster kids could fly his ultralight over and bomb the field with blue and gold paint filled balloons.

but don't worry, for 50 large I know a guy who can get a decent array of anti aircraft guns complete with turret enclosures and self guided radar tracking systems. If you can get Smuckers to throw in a few cases of jelly, he'll even paint the stuff red.

    note:
*turret enclosure labor cost not included
*gun manuals and instructional materials printed in russian (english versions are extra)
    *cash only

    Let the fundraising begin:laugh:

Got any new panoramas for us RR1?
  • RedRider1
Took one tonight but sun glare made it look bad.

Amazing how much more spongy the field is with all that rubber...the colors have dulled a bit too...but still looks incredible. Crew has 30 more bags of full to spread in and then they're basically done.

Whole project has gone so smooth. 1 month until the first varsity game. Should be quite a night.
  • 5knots
I think the colors will pop out again after the black rubber dust is rinsed off with rain and the pellets settle in more. Assuming we ever get any rain. Lol
  • thePITman
Field looks awesome! And RR1, the sun glare actually makes that photo kind of cool, IMO. See you there August 31!
  • RedRider1
Work on the track gets re-started today (that means the turf is DONE).

While VASCO applies the latex/rubber top coat, the track (and the field) will be off limits. It's a 7-day process if we have dry weather...any rain will extend that time frame.

It's an overnight drying process, but will take 2 coats, and then the track markings will be painted on.

With all the field and track installation going on, the start of the season happens in a few minutes with the start of 2xdays, kind of snuck up on us, I for one will miss 5 knots reports on the progress of the boys this year. I vote that Red Rider 1 be allowed to leave work with pay to keep us up to speed on the progress of the boys. ;)
  • RedRider1
I've never been a "go to practice" guy...so don't expect a lot from me in that category.

I like the leave work with pay thing though. :)

Us getting turf was my "white whale" moment as a fan/blogger of Orrville sports. Can't wait until games start so I can go back to being a mild-mannered scoreboard operator, OrrViews reporter and blogger/social media guru.

Congratulation Orrville on the new field, Very nice.

Great to meet Brad from Maumee Bay Turf last night...got the grand tour along with the rest of the committee. Said our turf is the same stuff that they just installed at Cincy's Paul Brown Stadium. Spoke highly of all of the local contractors they used and said Orrville is a special place.

I told Brad about how I had dreamed up us one day getting turf on my blog and to be standing on it was almost surreal. It was a pretty cool thing.

As he was speaking with us, out comes the football team to have their evening 2 a day practice on the turf. A few kids were doing snow angels in the turf. Reminded me of the movie Field of Dreams when the players emerged from the corn for the first time...they couldn't believe their eyes.
