Orrville Red Rider Football 2012
-
Old RiderThe track appeared to be getting some attention today. I noticed that they were beginning to scrape the surface and haul old material away. Field gravel should be complete today.
I was also informed today that two other projects at the stadium have been slated for completion before the upcoming season as well... I won't spill the beans on those yet though! -
Red RumI was in Orrville the other day and I must say....construction is going on. Sounds like it is going to be top notch upon completion.
As an area fan, I'm hoping the venue gets some D4 thru 7 second and third round playoff games. It would be really nice to see playoff football without driving 100 miles. Probably wouldn't hurt the Orrville revenue stream either.
Congrats to the fans and community over there.
p.s-- if you guys have the extra cash....new fencing would really pop the place. -

100% agree. I heard Mansfield netted around $50k for their Booster Club (Parking, concessions) from hosting playoff games...and area restaurants benefitted too.Red Rum;1217036 wrote:As an area fan, I'm hoping the venue gets some D4 thru 7 second and third round playoff games. Not think we're going to host 4 playoff games a year, but certainly 1 would be possible. Maybe you make a few grand and the HS science club funds their trip. -
OQBRed rum, new fencing is in the works and will be added this summer as well.

FlashYou let the cat out of the bag. Better you than me.

REDRIDER555Just curious did anyone go to the 7 on 7, I would be interested in a comment, on how the team did. I know 7 on 7’s can’t predict the real game but this time of year any football talk is welcomed.

Old RiderI heard that we played well, but we only took 11 kids. Gull Lake was average at best from what I was told. I did hear that we ran a total of 40 offensive plays and we completed 30 of those.
5 hour drive for 40 plays??? anyhow...
The coaches seem pretty excited about this group. The kids are working hard and one coach commented to me that "this is a very coachable group" and "we don't seem to have the ego's that we have had recently"...
The key will be the seniors and their ability to be leaders..whether vocal or just lead by example, but more importantly just show the younger guys that being a tight-knit group (not individuals) who work hard and want to do right for the TEAM.
No doubt that we will need some younger guys to step up and play big roles this season. However, I don't think we are going to be very deep (imagine that) in many spots.
Injury free preseason would be nice! -
5knotsThanks Old rider. I agree with the injury free year. We are overdue for that. We have had our share of minors and major injuries the past 3-4 years. If we can have a healthy year with this younger group that could bode well for another successful Red Rider campaign. If I'm one of those to-be soph running backs I'm licking my chops about that turf! I still have to pinch myself about that. What a place this is. congrats to all of us.
-
rrfanLong drive for a 7 on 7 but it also shows the loyalty to our players past and present. I like that and it should have been some good team bonding for the team.

It is a special place and being a father of 3 boys, I am so excited that they will be playing in brand new facilities at each level...just amazing!5knots;1219253 wrote:Thanks Old rider. rrfanI love to see the names recycle in Orrville! It is a special place and if you don't believe that watch the fireworks in Orrville on Saturday night. Best around!

RedRider1Asphalt layer for new track being put down today. Will take a few weeks to cure then latex top coat along with lane striping & markings.
New Field goal posts are laying in north end of field by shot put area...guessing those go in next week while asphalt cures.
-
Old RiderLove seeing progress being made...Looks great!
-
REDRIDER555Thanks old rider for the update, and for the comments, heard the same thing on the working hard, the senior and junior class seems to have bonded together pretty well, I know they do a lot together off the field, that’s not football related and that can’t hurt.
-
RedRider1Triway is getting a new scoreboard too. They were feeling left out.
Good for them...that old board they had barely worked...especially when we put up 52 last fall. -
rrfanLol good one redrider1. I would have been okay if it was 100 pts on them.
-
5knots100 would have been very doable that night, even in the heat.
-
RedRider1We started kind of slow...or I'd agree with you.
I'll stop..before we start sounding like Genoa fans. -
5knotsgood point.
-
rrfanI don't want to sound like Genoa. I am done too.
-

I believe one of the teams I played on may have contributed to a highlight or two in that video.5knots;1223382 wrote:Here you go Red Rider supporters. Time to get the cash out.....any amount will help.
