Orrville Red Rider Football 2012
-
rrfanOrrville has to reload. I don't know if it should be doom and gloom...
-
RedRider1Every year we get hit hard by graduation and the cupboard is supposedly bare, but we always cobble a good team together.
We will have to be better in the play calling & execution department. Can't rely on talent alone to overcome sloppy play. -
Mr MiyagiSerious question. Does turf change a team? Do you become more of a speed type team or still be a tough ground and pound type team? Is there a getting used to period of playing on turf for over 50% of the games? I'm sure opinions vary, but I would be interested in hearing them .
-
RedRider1We've played 1 reg. season game on turf and at least 1 playoff game on turf for a few years now, so it's not entirely new territory.
I would think that it would take some getting used to but wouldn't change a teams style of play. I think a quick team becomes a bit quicker on turf. -
RedRider1Committed funds sit at around $450,000.....still shooting for $750,000. That will more than pay for the project plus have some leftover for future projects. If nothing else, it's a jump start on a replacement fund for the turf in 10-12 years.
Hearing excavation work begins next week!! You know I'll have pictures for ya. -

Im expecting you to set up a camera at the field so that we can have a live feed! Make it happen RR1RedRider1;1193205 wrote:Committed funds sit at around $450,000.....still shooting for $750,000. RedRider1Can't get a wireless signal at the pressbox. Hoping when new HS is finished, they can put a range extender in the gym and get an Internet signal at the field.
I'll get plenty of pictures and having a link at the blog & at RedRiderTurf.com so people can watch the progress. -
Mr MiyagiIt would be neat to have one of those time lapse videos when it is done. Would be nice to see.
-
RedRider1Work at the field began today. Pictures at the link.

Troll KingTo bad they are going to ruin a beautiful new field with those ugly soccer goals. The old goal posts look great , orrville should get rid of soccer anyway.
-
Orrvillefootballthose goal post are smart. when i was working for my colleges athletic department we had to change the goal post for high school games. adding those extenders were not fun. took 6 of us. lol.
-
FlashHave you seen our Middle school record in soccer? Were going to become way better in soccer in the next couple of years. May even get to the middle of the pack in the league.

Nice to see things moving along! -
rrfanI actually agree soccer should be done in Orrville and I won't like to see the soccer lines or goals on the field. However, the soccer people in Orrville all 2 of them did push for the field and are working to raise money so we are kind of stuck there.
-
Troll KingAny chance they might cover the scoreboard during winter , spring , and summer to keep sun from fading the finish. Old one was really faded , just a thought. Also any truth to the rumor of a wrap for the bleachers like wooster and northwest have. That would make stadium truly fantastic except for soccer lines and goals.

As sad as it is, soccer has become a fact of life for almost every school system. The only bright side for hardcore football fans of having a soccer program is it's a fertile breeding ground for future kicking talent.rrfan;1203228 wrote:I actually agree soccer should be done in Orrville and I won't like to see the soccer lines or goals on the field. I know that we have had some good kickers because of the soccer program:thumbup:Red Rum;1205064 wrote:As sad as it is, soccer has become a fact of life for almost every school system. rrfan5knots-thank you for the clips. I have really enjoyed watching your boys play ball over the years. They have made Orrville proud both on and off the field. I look forward to following Mason at Illinois.

Old one was red...red fades more than black. Covering it isn't a bad idea....but that would be the first I've heard of covering a scoreboard.Troll King;1204640 wrote:Any chance they might cover the scoreboard during winter , spring , and summer to keep sun from fading the finish. I've heard the bleacher wrap rumor also...pretty sure there's been some discussion on doing something. Perhaps some graphics & a tribute to former coaches under the "Tradition" angle.
