Yes, ladies and gentlemen.....
OTrap just insinuated that a 74 point face pounding was done with respect..........Now I've seen some conceited posts (including some of my own)......but this one takes the cake.
First of all, respect was absent.......
New London didn't respect themselves enough to stop the Smithies (varsity or JV)
And Smithville didn't just run consecutive no frills fullback dives to the 1 hole when they got up by 60.
Secondly.........
Smithville ran their playbook and tacked on 20 more. Nothing wrong with it, kids got experience.....Smithvilles JV got Friday night action.....New Londons whole team got a life lesson.
And finally.....
If my ex-wifes little brother, a LB on NL, didn't need a ride home....I would have left that game mid way through the first quarter.
So, call it what it was........A savage battering.....but leave the respect thing at home or at whatever metrosexual wine bar you frequent.
As far as New London respecting itself, I can't attest to that. What I have first-hand knowledge of is how that game was coached and played on the Smithville side.
While the coaches ran more than just my namesake, it was still a hilariously limited playblook. Essentially, it was the Wing-T at its most basic. Nothing but fullback dives wouldn't really aclimate the young players to the playbook. They gave all their JV RBs work, but I hardly find that a disrespectful action.
It was a rough game. New London was clearly unmatched, so we can call a spade a spade in that regard, but from a "run up the score" standpoint, there was absolutely zero intent to score unnecessarily. The coaches put in the least experienced players, gave them an extremely limited playbook to work with, and told the kids to work hard (since this group was probably not going to see the varsity field again that year). How much more respectful can you be? I'd like to hear, since you seem to regard yourself as the resident expert on the subject. -
OQBI never liked putting young kids in and then not letting them experience success in the varsity game. You don't tell them not to work hard or ok we are beating them pretty good so we're not going to score anymore...if you break lose fall down etc.... You let the young kids play and even if it is a limited playbook, let them play the game of football.
When I played in college, we were out in Boston playing a first year team......it was an average high school team at best playing a college football schedule. We were up 54-0 at half and their coach told our coach don't let up, if you put your 2's or 3's in try to score because these kids need to learn a lesson. We ended up winning 75-6, with our backups playing the entire second half. -
O-TrapThat was what our team did that night, though the coaches did limit the playbook as well.

Old RiderJust pile it on...then let the losing team figure things out the next day in films!
...always remember though.."What comes around goes around" So be prepared to take yours when that other team is presented with the opportunity!! -

Hence why we are seeing the falcons and Bobcats doing it the past few years.Old Rider;911902 wrote:Just pile it on...then let the losing team figure things out the next day in films!

was_that_itMy humble opinion on the score running up issue is simply this, it is up to the other team to stop you. Put the young guys in and let it be what it is, onside kicks and pass plays are a little different, but if it bothers you that much stop them. (side note: I played on teams that had a few ugly score hung on them, get better each play/week and try to improve, can't blame the other team for being better. Blame yourself.)
I am stoked for the Hillsdale/Smithville game this week. Hillsdale needs to play a perfect game offensivly to keep the Smithie O off the field. This game is what WCAL football is all about. Hard nosed running and tough line play. Didn't attend the Dalton/Hillsdale game last week, sounds like Hillsdale needs to improve this week if they want the win. Hillsdale's D-line and linebackers will need to bring an intensity that I feel hasn't been as consistent or donminate as it could be. I am glad to see Smithville having the season they are and it will make for a great matchup. -

i didn't have any problem with it . our kids have too learn from it,and then turn the table down the road !! you can't tell a young players who been working hard ,and gets a chance to play ,and have them go easy on the other team!!1486wd;911553 wrote:ahh - one or two bulldog fans said something about the falcons last score on here - i don't think most dalton people had a problem with it at all - they were just trying to put the game away. -

Why go to the extreme red? I never said "don't do it us", run the score that is.
Luckydog, I used Dalton as an example (almost any team could be used) because it just happened and you made some comments about it. Then others commented, a small discussion got going and I threw in my 2 cents.
I mean't no offense to the Dawg faithful as I have enjoyed reading posts from mompov, 1486, beverboy, etc over the years. Furthermore, the sportsmanship and kindness extended by Dalton a few years back in an 8th grade or freshman game, letting a handicapped kid live his dream and score a touchdown will never be forgotten. I'm far from the Dalton hater you think, I'm actually kind of a fan.

Go FalconsBelieve it or not one of probably only a couple records that has not been broken under Coach Williams is the school scoring record. Which I believe is 65.

Agreed. I was at the '09 Dalton/Chipp game. The only way to keep from running up the score was to end the game early. And, personally, while it's tough to have a year like we are having so far, I have to feel good for the ones having a good year. I can't imagine what it must be like to have scored 50 points in a game for the first time in 10 years like Timken did over us. TEN YEARS! That says a lot about school spirit and kids even bothering to come out at all!luckydog;911835 wrote:It's how you do it red, those butt whoppins we put on rittman and the chips, well we couldn't help but score. I even managed to be happy, but only as appropriately as a Bulldog can be, for Hillsdale when they won their first title last year. -

Speaking of the 8th grade game a couple years ago, I thought about that young man this week. Wondered what his current status/health/situation is? They are all sophomores this year.Red Rum;911967 wrote:My reply-

The only thing I'm a resident expert on is calling out smug, holier than thou, know it all trolls. Guess what....you qualify....not just on this thread either.O-Trap;911886 wrote:Blah, Blah, Blah, first hand knowledge, blah, blah, yack, yack, blah
I have no problem with one team beating another 80-6.....and the answer is THERE IS NO RESPECTFUL WAY TO DO IT. What happened....happened. The word "respect" doesn't mix with a 74 point blowout. Thats my opinion.
I'm not expecting you to understand since you wouldn't even admit the penis island shirt wasn't appropriate for church.
It should also be mentioned, I was there!!! it was a long time ago...but I was there....Were You?
Oh, I forgot....YOU HAVE FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE...........I believe thats the same as "Someone told me". Nobody had to tell me.
I also had nothing riding on the game, I didn't care who won......in other words, no emerald colored glasses here. Can you claim that?
I could go on, but I need to flip over to JJ and check the pick'em pool standings that you volunteered to run a few years back....wait....oh, thats right, you vanished after 2 weeks without a explanation or apology. Did it have anything to do with Smithville not being competitive that year?
I also find it interesting that now the Smithies are good......Otrap shows up! Where were you last year?...besides the serious business and political threads.
In closing I will say...I am a troll, a big mouth and many other repugnant things....I freely admit it. I'm also wrong some of the time, I admit that too. I just don't think I'm wrong about you. I will even apologize for the "wine drinking metrosexuals comment"........... please replace it with "trendy micro brew drinking limpwrists"
In the future I will try to ignore you as much as possible....please extend me the same courtesy.
P.S......if you can't resist replying to this post and you want me to see it. wait till Saturday....I'll be gone until then. -

Red Rummompov-

If memory serves, Hillsdale scored 65 or 63 on the Huskies back in the 90s at Falcon stadium....I think it was something like 50-0 at halftime. That was another low point in a series of low points for pre Thut Northwestern football. I also think someone dropped 80 on the Huskies during that dark, forgettable era.
While I'm reliving the bad old days, here's a memory of just how bad it was.
I used to run a handicapped pick contest for High School football. Northwestern was so bad I regularly gave +50 just to entice people to go for it. The other team always covered. Once vs Smithville, I gave the Huskies +60 and the spread still got covered. The 90s were a nightmare. The only comparable agony that could possibly surpass it is.....
being locked in an internet chat room with Paul.
if you can imagine that, you have an idea of how bad things got in Lattasburg. -

Beast, you are absolutely right...this is a public message board and people are allowed to have opinions. However, do you REALLY think that Coach Z quit on his team last Friday? Do you really? You have done nothing but attack his coaching ability. So he was a bad coach his 2nd and 3rd years as a coach when they won back to back league championships and went to the playoffs? Was he??? All of a sudden he can't coach. Hmmmmm, lets see here......the only thing that has changed are the players in the program. He is the same coach he has always been. You tell me....did he all of a sudden become a bad coach? This isn't college, where you can recruit the players you want for your program/style. Why is it that when a team wins, its only because they have good players but when they lose it is because they have a bad coach? I would love for you to be a coach of any sport for 1 week. 1 WEEK....you wouldn't last 1 day! You have no idea all of the CRAP that they have to deal with. NO CLUE!!!1_beast;911866 wrote:good chat going...keep it coming. Beast is enjoying reading.
