madman11Yikes. I hope those Indians don't get discouraged and have participation issues next year.
If Dennis is the coach they will. I'm betting we see the numbers in the 20's like we did with Teague. -
me_myself_iWeren't him and teague assistants together somewhere?

zoocrewNorwayne game was 61-7. The varsitycame out with 2:30 left in th first half and never returned. It was 54-0 at half time. Not pretty at all

If I were Hillsdale, I'd be wondering how far Smithville is going to shove the ball down their throats!!mompov;908439 wrote:Moyer changed jerseys. He was out there.
Hillsdale is good. No question, the scoreboard says that. They have the goods.
However, wondering if they were laying back a little tonight. Maybe had some kids with light injuries that they wanted healthy later on so kept them out? They rotated lots of kids in and out, could tell by clean jerseys, maybe that's how they do it against a weaker team. So many kids out! Good for them! The second team coming in were still juniors. Anyway, I haven't see Norwayne play at all, but the Falcons I saw tonight are going to have trouble against the Bobcats if that was full strength Falcons.
Dalton took the ball straight to the endzone first drive. Looked as good as they have yet this year. It felt good. And Dalton played them pretty tough considering their size. Moyer and company moved the chains on most possessions tonight and our defense actually forced a number of punts. I'm much more hopeful re: the rest of the season.
College boy's roomie from Waynedale said Smithville thumped Bears. Wow, not expecting that. Thinking Smithville is the spoiler, Hillsdale better watch for them too, unless, like I said, they were laying back tonight.
Great effort tonite for our boys. I don't want to hear any of this resting players crap, they sub alot because they have depth. I don't think for a minute that they are going to take it easy because they are playing a younger squad, that's not smart Football.
This is our best game so far. I agree with DHS, the last TD bomb, well I can't say what I want to, so I'll just agree.
GO BULLDOGS -

Not saying they were, lucky...just surprised considering their scores so far and all the hype they've gotten. They definitely have depth and it's smart to keep them fresh.
I'm proud of our Bulldogs tonight and hope they are greatly encouraged!! -
BobcatWell I'll make this update as simple as possible. Norwayne was up 54 - 0 at the half. I have no idea what the stats were but the first string played so little at some point it's going to start to hurt them. Wallaces stats were almost nonexistent. He threw a 15 yard TD to Berger on the first drive and a longer one to Knieriem a few drives later. That was about it. I think he had maybe 70 yards passing and only carried the ball a hand full of times. The Zimmerly boys carried the ball a ton and ran for a ton of yards. I think Tyler had 3 TD's. We had a pick 6 that the Dennis kid threw right to our DB with no WR in sight. I think when Rittman scored they still had their 1's in and literally half of the players on the field for Norwayne were freshman. It was a JV game with 2 minutes to go at the half and a freshman game for most of the second half (for Norwayne). We are all proud of our boys but they have to get complete game in at some time. I hope Waynedale gives us a game next week.

They're probably gonna be ticked after tonight, so they just might.Bobcat;908512 wrote:I hope Waynedale gives us a game next week.
It's good for the starters to get a good chunk of the game in, but getting your 2s and 3s a good portion of playing time is VERY beneficial to the future of the program. That's what Smithville did for so long. Once it built a lead, it put in the 2s and 3s. By the time the 2s and 3s were 1s, they'd had plenty of experience under the Friday night lights.
Making sure your new starters are already battle tested ensures you do less rebuilding and more reloading. -
BobcatThat's a good point O-Trap but our 1's have only played in 14 of 20 qtrs so far this year. That's not enough
-

Yes, that is my hope for Dalton. Of course, having to play the youngens is different then subbing them in for fun, but the result is the same, seasoned veterans.O-Trap;908520 wrote:They're probably gonna be ticked after tonight, so they just might.

Eh, it's ALMOST 3 of every 4 quarters.Bobcat;908533 wrote:That's a good point O-Trap but our 1's have only played in 14 of 20 qtrs so far this year. That's not enough
However, the danger would be if those were pretty evenly distributed, and the Cats have yet to HAVE to go a whole game. When that time comes, the inexperience could cause problems.
Maybe not, though. You can never underestimate the will of a unified team that has no fear. Seen teams like that do way too many amazing things. -
THE4RINGZIt's a tough position to be in not being able to play your 1's. There are still a couple of games in the schedule that potentially test them for 4 quarters.
Guess time will tell -
O-Trap
Bingo. I'm serious. When Smithville had that decade where they averaged a 9-1 regular season record, it was because any game where they got ahead, Coach Schrock gave the younger ones some time to be tested by the fire of a real varsity game, and when they were upperclassmen who were ready to start, they knew exactly what it took to be a starter for a team where the pressure was to keep up the tradition ... they knew exactly what it felt like to win against a meat-grinder WCAL schedule.mompov;908535 wrote:Yes, that is my hope for Dalton. Of course, having to play the youngens is different then subbing them in for fun, but the result is the same, seasoned veterans.
It made all the difference, as there was never talk of the Smithies "being a young team amidst a rebuilding year."
With many of the coaches being new to the league since then, they may not all have that same philosophy, but it is my own opinion that such a philosophy would do them well. -
Havin FunI was worried about this game for the Bears. The three wins they had were against terrible competition.
Smithville has the size and speed to compete with anyone. Norwayne sounds scary good. Other than the
Smithies Bobcats and Falcons, the WCAL may be the weakest it has been in years. -
THE4RINGZI know one local 0-5 team who is getting bitten on the hind quarters because they never played their 2's the past couple of years when they had big leads. You have to develop your program not focus on statistics
-
madman11Talked to some of the Rittman seniors from last year tonight at the game....They all agree it took them 4 years to build the program back to a respectable point and its take Dennis 5 weeks to let it fall apart

Did Rittman take a screen pass to the house for their TD tonight? -
Bloody ToothbrushLucky & DHS.....
I don't know guys, I wouldn't get to worked up over the difference between 42-12 & 35-12. If you let that get to you....you're probably gonna melt down Beast style when you travel to Creston. Good luck against Northwestern next week, that should be a nice measuring stick. A game against another young team. Also congrats on the golf title.....I thought Dane Hammer was a football player....guess I'm a little out of touch.
Smithville/Waynedale......
Looks like somebody made a statement!!!!.....Hillsdale/Smithville will be next weeks BIG WCAL game.
Hillsdale....
They may not be as flashy as last year.....but all they've done so far is win and taken criticism for it. I wouldn't count them out.
Norwayne....
61-7 victory over Team Dennis. Gut check time for Waynedale.
Northwestern/Chippewa.....
I heard the 50/50 was $12 bucks......and NWN finally beat up on somebody. Hopefully Chippewa/Rittman will be everything Rittman/Mapleton wasn't.
and GASP......Orrville got upset!......the Orrville gang is going to be FIRED up. It could spell trouble for their next opponent.
last and least....Triway went down again....Alas, there's no reprieve in Shreve. Upcoming trip to CVCA isn't what the doctor ordered. -
O-TrapThis Smithville team has had two experiences that have been key in its development this year.
#1. The close loss in week 1. It let them feel the sting of losing a close game.
#2. The close win in week 2. It gave them a taste of victory over a good team ... it let them experience, and learn, what it REALLY takes to win. -

Go FalconsI am glad some one thought the Falcons looked good tonight.
I will agree that the late pass looked bad, however tonight was the first time time we have gotten the passing game going all season and sorry but you were a warm up for tougher things to come. The Dogs played hard tonight and I think they showed a glimmer of the bright future ahead in Dalton. The Falcons did not win this game in the trenches, they won it on big plays and Dalton mistakes. I don't know if fair week is to blame but the Falcons were not prepared to play tonight. The D played terrible, not until late in the game were we able to shut it down between the tackles. Far to many missed reads lead to positive yards for Dalton when it should have been tackles for loss. Dalton was able to get way to many 5-9 yard gains. The O line continues to be suspect to say the least. I do have a better feeling about our passing game after tonight but I do not think the Dogs secondary is anywhere near as good as what we will be seeing in the coming weeks.
If Hillsdale plays as well as they did tonight, Smithville will notch win number 5 next week in J-ville. -
O-TrapWho's gonna be in Jeromesville for next week's Falcon-Smithie showdown? I'll be venturing that way to watch the game.

Ticked.....SURE...can they do anything about it...NOPE!!! Handicapped by Coaching...and absolutely outsized...But this is about the 1st intelligent post i've seen from you regarding 2's and 3's and being battle tested...however...their 1's aren't battle tested...1 and done???

cant blame fair week..all Wayne County had fair week last week..........
Did the D play terrible....? Or did Dalton play good??
Expect a loss next week!!! you heard it here 1st!!!
my synopis of the league was....Bears HAD a chance to beat Smithville...but lacked size for Hillsdale or Norwayne....
Actually thought Hillsdale was the underestimated class of the league. Didnt think Bears could beat hillsdale...thought bears had a shot at norwayne.
NOW...Smithville beats hillsdale...
Bears have a shot at Hillsdale
Smithville - Norwayne is a battle
Bears Norwayne...ugly
Smithville Norwayne....could be a battle
Hillsdale though...does have the horses to run w/ Norwayne
Norwayne has to go 9-1 to get in playoffs...and may be on the road.
Hillsdale is out....
Smithville may sneak in... -
