  Even though going to Massillon would be great, I really would like to see a game in Harding Stadium. All the games there are electric! Right now, I am leaning towards the Ursuline game.

  The Fighting Irish game would be competitive I would hope. You should try to see two games back to back. Fly in on a Thursday and out on a Saturday of the following week.

  What happened to this thread? Aren't Big Red people talking? I realize there will be more to talk about when the schedule comes out and we finally find out about the stadium renovations. But don't we have anything to talk about now?

  Besides, ManO'War is very, very busy catching up on the Cindy Margolis show "SEDUCING CINDY". He's so depressed that his application was turned down for the reality show.   The Big Red threads have gotten really slow on both huddles. Last year at this time things were buzzing because everyone was talking about the game with Massillon.
  
  As I see it, we will have two topics to talk about in the near future. One is the schedule. I was told more than a month ago that the schedule was complete except for a couple contracts that were still in the mail. I don't know what happened to those contracts. I have heard rumors that we will play another blockbuster, but I don't know who that would be.
  
  The other issue is renovations to the stadium. I contacted the Herald Star to ask for a clarification of the article they published, but they never got back to me. It will be interesting to see what the school does with the stadium. It's funny that about a year ago, my father said that the concrete would last another hundred years. Apparently he was wrong. It might be cheaper to build a new stadium than to fix Harding, but I know that will never happen. We would never give up the atmosphere. After all, there are reasons why it is called "Death Valley."
  
  My only criticism of Harding is that the seats are so cramped. Back in 1966 when we joined the All-American Conference, we had to have 10,000 seats. We built the new bleachers on the visitors' side and end zones, and we reduced the width of the seats on the home side by 2". I'm not that wide, but even I do not fit well into those seats. I assume if the home side is rebuilt, the seats will be made wider. That will reduce the total seating by a few hundred, but we are no longer obligated to seat 10,000. The advantage to having narrow seats is that if it is raining or cold, you can always cuddle up with the big fat woman sitting next to you!

  Fairwood, I love "Death Valley", but, one thing did amaze me when I attended the Massillon/Steubenville game this past year, I really can't believe the lack of room on the visitors sidelines. Has anyone ever gotten injured due to the limited space on those sidelines? Again, love Harding Stadium, but that really seems like a safety issue to me.

  Skank, we all agree with you, but I don't know what we can do about it. Prior to 1966, there was plenty of room on both sidelines. But then we had to expand to 10,000 seats to join the AAC. The stadium's footprint really wasn't big enough for that kind of expansion. What we should have done was to make the home side higher. We actually had architects' plans drawn up to double the size of the main stands. Weirton Steel was going to donate a lot of materials to help build it. I know all of this for a fact because my uncle worked for National Steel (the parent company of Weirton Steel) and he had the plans in his drawer. For some reason the idea never materialized. Instead we rebuilt the stadium to what it is today.
  
  To answer your question, yes, there have been a few minor injuries caused by players crashing into the fence under the visitors' stands. But to my knowledge, there has never been a serious injury. I just hope that continues.

  Has Steubenville put out a press release of their new recruits for the upcoming season? Not sure if there is a signing date for high school, even if there were, Like everything else, The "big red" probably would not have to follow the rules.

  Fairwood today I heard we will bw having 8 home games.This person who told me also said we still have one opening.Brooke is on there.Morgantown, Ursiline,Park,Massillon,buchtel,inkster,Either o'hara or st. joes.That's all I can remember.

  I can just imagine what the Big Red haters will say about this. I was willing to bet money that we would play Brooke but that the first game of the series would be in Wellsburg just to even out our schedule. I guess I was wrong.

  When I heard that we were losing Creek and East Liverpool and Poland and probably St. Joe's, I thought our schedule for this year would look very different. It really doesn't. We get Buchtel back as well as Ursuline (although I think Ursuline is a good choice). Getting Brooke back after a long absence is probably a good idea, although I think they will be just like Park in 2008-- a good record but no competion for us. At least they should bring a big crowd and I will be able to see the game on WTOV9 Game of the Week.
  
  As far as St. Joe's is concerned, we had to fill week 4 (probably with Brooke), so I assume they are off the schedule. I would be willing to bet that we will still play O'Hara. They are not tired of our thrashings yet.
  
  That leaves two openings. I wonder when they are going to be filled.

  Has anyone heard anything new about the renovations to the stadium? I don't see how they would have enough time to rebuild the entire home section and add an extended pressbox. I would also like to know what the cost would be.

  I don't think it's a rumor. I've to talked to a kid who still plays & he said that they gotten a new player from Pittsbugh Central Catholic & he plays QB.
