We could include Massillon but they are afraid to play Catholic schools in the regular season.BigYtownRed wrote: Waste of time with the whole ECOL, but let it happen so we can go back to being independent sooner rather than later.
Why don't we start a real football only league with about 4 to 6 teams:
Big Red
Mooney
UHS
Akron SVSM
________
________
That would be nice -

Get off it buddy... Your not going to win with me.war_admiral wrote:
Speaking of OWN. Big Red OWN's creek. And our players jersey's say BIG RED on them. So they are our players. We were beating teams before open enrollment...listen to how stupid you sound.sonofsam wrote:
What rule says we have to beat anyone before I can voice an opinion? I'll tell you what, give our players back, edisons back, weirs back, and the rest of the valleys back and then I will quit talking. Beat someone with your OWN players and then you can say whatever you want. Why so defensive?? You have everything you want and you are a so called "Top Program" so why not just ignore my posts and live happy? My comments shouldn't be "worth a hill of beans" right?FairwoodKing wrote:
Are you going to start that open enrollment again? Creek has the same open enrollment policy as Big Red, as do Buckeye, Toronto, and Edison. Why doesn't Creek draw players from Big Red? I'll tell you why. Big Red's program is one of the best in the state and Creek's program isn't worth a hill of beans. You need to actually beat somebody before you criticize us.sonofsam wrote:

Besides, what "holy power" says that I can't say what I feel because of open enrollment? Sorry that my pride kept me out of Big Red... Couldn't pay me enough to have attended there, I'm not a ship jumper.
Just stay off our threads! go to your tee-pee thread and talk about how you hate big red over there.
And we are a "TOP PROGRAM". That's another thing BIG RED OWNS Region 11!!!

GoChiefsIn SOS's defense..why is it not OK for him to visit Big Red threads..but Big Red people can visit Indian Creek threads? I've actually enjoyed reading the back and forth between fans of both teams.

You know, I always liked you, b/c you stood up for Massillon. But, as of late, I have lost respect for you. The past few comments you have made, on here, and some on another forum, I am beginning to dislike you more and more.FairwoodKing wrote:

I'm old enough to remember the beatings that Massillon gave us every year in the 1950's, 60's, and 70's. The Massillon game was always the biggest game of the year, even though Massillon didn't think the same about us.
As far as scheduling is concerned, Big Red schedules so many Catholic schools because we have no choice. And we are constantly criticized because we don't play Mooney in the regular season.
At any rate, I am still a big Massillon supporter. I hope you go 14-1 this year and win the state championship. -
FairwoodKingCoyotes-- Can you post Massillon's schedule on here?
-
FairwoodKingIn all seriousness, Massillon, Big Red, Iggy, Mooney, and Ursuline could form a very good football conference. We are all independents and we all have trouble scheduling every year. Although Big Red, UHS, and Mooney are smaller schools, we all play Div. I schedules with lots of computer points. All five teams play in big nice stadiums.
I doubt if this will ever materialize, but it is something to think about. -

Fairwood, I was just trying to keep my "internet badass" rep alive!!!
As soon as I hear that it is final, it will get posted. Keep an eye on the "2010 Massillon" thread!!!!!
Either Skank or myself will post something. (prolly be skank, first, as I do not go to MP anymore) -
sonofsamBefore we go any further, I am going to give ALL freehuddlers the REAL reason why NO ONE will play Big Red. A discussion with a good friend prompted me to enlighten our fine posters. When Big Red schedules a team, they like to schedule all games at Harding Stadium. No complaint there because who wouldn't want to play everyone at home right? My question is why did it take so long to pay Creek the absolute chump change you owed them? What was it like 5 monthes??? Next, If Big Red schedules a Home and Home series, it is scheduled on THEIR terms which insists that Big Red gets to keep ALL monies from pre-ticket sales. That INCLUDES season ticket holders. So why would anyone in their right mind want to LOOSE money by scheduling Big Red? Ticket sales make up a good chunk of the revenue and all Big Red fans would purchase a head of time so they can keep the money at the school. How fair is that? An area team wants to schedule Big Red yet Big Red plays in that teams stadium and takes most of the money?
-
MANAZEIn all reality though is there anyone right now that is "local" that can even come close to beating Big Red?
-
sonofsam
Oh there might be, but did I say that? All I said was to schedule one of these teams that actually WANT to play Big Red but won't give in to their comical money demands... earn it then you can talk.MANAZE wrote: In all reality though is there anyone right now that is "local" that can even come close to beating Big Red? -
MANAZEThey did earn it. I don't see why your complaining. Their house their rules if you don't like to bad.

We play Wheeling Park and East Liverpool home and home. They are local teams. They don't seem to complain about money. And I assure you that St. Joe's, O'Hara, Inkster, and teams like that always come out ahead financially. That's one of the reasons they keep playing us.sonofsam wrote:

I have never heard anyone from Massillon, Watterson, Poland, Ursuline, or any other team we play home and home complain about what they get paid to come to Steubenville or the demands that we put on them when we play at their stadiums. When we play on the road, we bring so many fans that the host makes out no matter what they pay us. We are also such a big draw that we get more of their home fans to attend. -
FairwoodKingHow many starters does Big Red have coming back from last year? I lost track. I know (of course) that we have to replace our quarterback, but I need to have my memory refreshed as to the other positions.

WOW. Is that the absolute best you can do to my post???????????? What year would they join the league? -

When I first heard the rumor, I thought it was a good idea. But now that I have had the chance to think about it, I don't like it.big_red_drummer wrote: How close is Big Red coming to joining the ECOL?
What year would they join the league?
The biggest problem is with the non-football sports. I just can't see the girls' volleyball team driving 100 miles to Marietta or Zanesville on a school night.
And as someone pointed out, if we wanted to keep our seven home games in football, we would have to drop Massillon and Wheeling Park and any other teams that would be worth playing like Ursuline, Watterson, or Poland. I can't even imagine who our first four games every year would be against.
I also don't see Big Red fans getting excited about making three long away games every year, especially to places like Cambridge and Marietta. And I don't know how well these teams would travel to Steubenville.
To answer your original question, I will make the educated guess that we will join this conference. I can't imagine Reno and Fred allowing a rumor like this to start unless they had already contacted the various schools and were reasonably sure that Big Red would be admitted. I could be wrong, but I would still be willing to put money on it. -

I will drive anywhere to see Big Red play. The trip there is always fun.I like seeing stadiums get flooded with fans.I do understand what you me though.I am going but I don't see a bunch of people driving to Morgantown.FairwoodKing wrote:

Bigred1995SOS,
First of all, I notice you like to make claims and statements without anything to back them up with, just like the dumb@$$ statement in another thread that, "...Youngstown Ohio has the highest murder rate per capita in the US...", this post is no different. I guess they didn't teach you how to source up there at Indian Creek!
Since I believe you're intentionally being misleading in this post I'm going to break it down and in the process ask a series of questions.
Big Red plays ten regular season games a year, so your statement that "NO ONE will play Big Red', is false. Now, are you talking about local teams or what? If you are talking about local teams, then I'm sure the reason you give would be a very low priority reason and that the main reason is that they can't win (i.e. Indian Creek)!sonofsam wrote: Before we go any further, I am going to give ALL freehuddlers the REAL reason why NO ONE will play Big Red.
What does this statement have to do with...sonofsam wrote: A discussion with a good friend prompted me to enlighten our fine posters. When Big Red schedules a team, they like to schedule all games at Harding Stadium. No complaint there because who wouldn't want to play everyone at home right?
...this one? This reminds me of the response my Latin teacher always said when someone in our class asked a non-sequitur question, "Do you walk to work or carry your lunch?"sonofsam wrote:My question is why did it take so long to pay Creek the absolute chump change you owed them? What was it like 5 monthes???
And if the two statements weren't meant to have anything to do with each other then you shouldn't have put the little "factoid" in about Big Red wanting to play all of their games at home, because ultimately you said yourself that there was, "No complaint there because who wouldn't want to play everyone at home right?"
First of all why would anyone on here know why it took so long to pay IC? If you really want to know, why don't you call Reno or Fred? And second, why should anyone believe you when you make this claim; are you privy to all the activities between the two schools? I'm pretty sure that most on this site are not! And if you have "inside" information then share with us from whom you get your information, until then let's just stick to information that is easily accessible to all.
What does being a season ticket holders have to do with anything? When Big Red plays an away game the season ticket holders have to buy away game tickets just like everyone else. They may have first opportunity to purchase them but they still have to buy them like everyone else. Unless you're talking about Big Red demanding pre-ticket sales from the opposing school, then I cover that in my nitpicking area!sonofsam wrote: Next, If Big Red schedules a Home and Home series, it is scheduled on THEIR terms which insists that Big Red gets to keep ALL monies from pre-ticket sales. That INCLUDES season ticket holders.
I guess this portion of your post made the least amount of sense to me! Are you implying that Big Red is demanding all pre-ticket sales from both schools or only those pre-ticket sales from Big Red? I'm pretty sure you're talking about only the sales from Big Red, (Isn’t that how the playoffs work? Oh wait, I apologize, you won't know anything about how anything in the playoffs work now would you?) but that is very unclear in your post!sonofsam wrote: So why would anyone in their right mind want to LOOSE money by scheduling Big Red? Ticket sales make up a good chunk of the revenue and all Big Red fans would purchase a head of time so they can keep the money at the school. How fair is that? So what you're saying is that the money Big Red brings in from Big Red Fans should be split equally? You do realize that in most cases Big Red Fans outnumber the opposing fans 2:1, 3:1, and sometimes 4:1, right? Instead of complaining about Big Red wanting to keep the money that Big Red Fans bring in, maybe you should be complaining to the weak fan bases that don't go out and support their respective high school! "...Big Red plays in that teams stadium and takes most of the money", because Big Red brings in most of the money!! When we play teams with fans that actually support their team, this isn't even an issue! Go ahead ask Massillon if they feel they got jipped when they came to Harding Stadium!
Have you ever taken any economics or business classes? I'm going to guess no!
Nitpicking section:
The plural of month is months not "monthes"
Your use of "monies" is incorrect (unless you're talking about the money from the pre-ticket sales from both schools, then in that case, -insert personal attack here-). “Monies” is used when money is coming in from different sources or you're dealing with different types of money. Think in terms of fish vs. fishes!
It should be LOSE money, you would think since you put it in all caps you'd catch something like that!
"Ahead" is one word.
