Well since the rest of Genoa is still hiding under their rocks I'll do my best to compare for you.5knots;906729 wrote:Gtown....how do you compare this year's Genoa team to the past two years?? very interested to hear
Our QB improved quite a bit over the past year and our ability and confidence to throw is there once again. It should give us more balance for different styles of attack if need be.
The running game is still there (when we don't play teams with stud LB'ers that can sniff out the Wing T....like Orrville for instance).
Our SO RB from last year gave up basketball to focus on the weights and added over 20 lbs of muscle since last football season. He's a load now. Very physical.
From what I am hearing through the rumor mill is that the coaching staff is as, if not more excited about this team as they were the team that made it to the Semi's as far as their potential.
Several observers from opposing schools as well as guys that just enjoy watching football claim that this is the best team we've fielded yet. That's from people that are not from Genoa nor Genoa fans in the least.
I see these kids playing more as a team than other years. They are more level-headed. Not as many personal fouls and the celebrations are gone. They are more businesslike which is a very refreshing change.
These intangible things I believe will benefit the team more than pure talent has in the past.
The defense is as good as I've ever seen it. Our DB's seem more solid than last year. Last year they got burnt several times early in the year and gave up a couple big plays. Those are gone this year and they need to be
considering all roads lead to Mr. Mauk in 14.
The Genoa fans and community seem quite mellow compared to years past. I feel that is in part due to the fact that Orrville doesn't only make the world's finest jellies, but also serves up world class humble pie.
That's a good thing IMO. I haven't heard the chatter amongst ourselves how we're better than last year or any of that garbage like in years past or how this is the year we're gonna do it. Everybody seems to be taking it one game at a time
and with the community not filling the kid's heads with garbage, they are taking it one game at a time as well.
It's going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out. I'd love to see Rd 3 of Genoa-Orrville this year out of respect for your program and the great ballgames we have shared. I can't see anything less in the future.
But as we both know, at this point it is completely wishful thinking. There is alot of football to be played between now and then coming to fruition.
Until then, good luck. I may be a Genoa Comet, but I am a fan of Orrville football as well. -
OQBThat is the best post I have ever read coming from a Genoa fan! It is refreshing to hear a comet fan that is level headed, and from the sounds of it...a lot of people have changed because of the past few years. Winning teaches you a lot of things, but I believe you learn more from the losses than the wins.
We got a lot of football left to play, but a matchup with Genoa in the playoffs is becoming a nice tradition
Good luck the rest of the way! -
GtownCometAll I got to say to that is that I didn't get this level-headed by winning my way through life

you think you knowIt is what it is!

5knotsGreat post gtown. Best of luck to the comets. We have a lot of work to do on our end as well to make it to Genoa vs Orrville round 3. But I agree, it would be a blast
-
5knotsI remember on '09 Genoa had that Nutter kid, then last year they had anutter nutter kid. Now This year I don't know if they have the same nutter they had before or if they have anutter nutter or anutter nutter on top that first nutter? It is very hard to keep up with one anuuter from Genoa!
-
GtownCometI can't even keep up with all of them. Besides Kyle I think there are anutter 2 yet.

I hear you brother!!5knots;906707 wrote:Yep, the favoritism is if you are the player that gives the team the best chance to succeed, then you play. I agree. Glad we are all on the same page. -
5knotshahahahahahahaha two both of those last two posts hahahahahahha!!!!!
Yeah...I was laughing out loud all by myself looking at my screen.....funny stuff. -
BRFGtownComet's post: Really enjoyed reading how the attitude has changed and that you should always take one game at a time and take care of the business at hand. WTG!And...a question.....What it is?

Hoobler, Zwick. My mistake!Series62;904845 wrote:Why was it a personal insult to say that the victory was over an opponent that wasn't that good. Can you honestly say that was a hard fought game? Lex was bigger! And Lex was much slower.
No I didn't put on the red, black and white on Friday nights! And I taught my sons that the uniform does make you who you are...that belongs to Jesus!
You didn't have to say worshipped/glorified, I said it because that's how many of you sound. My son enjoyed much success as a track athlete, the red, black and white nor the name blessed him with speed, God did that!
The school, the team, the colors were blessed to have people like him, Monheim, Hobbler, Robinson's, Zwuick, Ray and especially Denson to step into that uniform.
And to that end...you and more of you that put on that uniform on Friday night should be "INSULTED" that one of your best isn't in your own Hall of Fame!
I used to be great supporter of Orrville athletics, and I've recognized the favoritism and bias since I've lived here and attended various sporting events.
Some will deny it, but I'm not the only one that sees it, read some of the other comments.
You call yourself an Orrville guy and you cant even spell the last names right? Hobbler? Zwuick? Dont insult our town, our program, and most importantly our tradition!!! -
riders1FYI, 113 total unbeaten teams in Ohio, make that 112 after Middletown's loss tonight. Only 16 in D4 with 4 in our Region 13 and 6 in Region 14 including our friends from Genoa , 2 each in Region 15 and 16. There are 22 winless teams in D4 with 8 of those in our Region 13 including Triway, Chippewa, and Northwestern.
Game day
GO RED RIDERS !!! -
RedRider1Interested to see our offense tonight. Hope we can put up a similar performance from last week. See everyone over there.
-
Light^^Agreed. Balance and consistency is the key moving forward.
-

Yep. with the defense we have....if we can put up 350-400 yds of offense each time out, and do it on the ground and in the air, we'll be a very dangerous team.Light;907794 wrote:^^Agreed. Balance and consistency is the key moving forward. -
RedRider1Triway has Tuslaw tonight
Northwest has New Philly
I'd call Triway and Northwest winning tonight an upset if it happens.
Lex has Clear Fork....Should be a win for Lex, but you never know with them.
Triway or NW winning would be a nice bonus of computer points. If both win, we get an additional .95 points which would be huge among the top 4 in our region. -
Old RiderLight...thats a unique avatar you have there. Did RR1 OK that?

Here's where I found the helmet. Great time-waster.

Someone needs to make an Ohio helmet quiz using those helmets....that would be fun. -
OQBIMO....rain should not be an excuse as to why you don't execute.
Here's to win # 4 on the year and win #2 in the OCC.
Let's Go Riders! -
5knotsI hear you brother. Hey Folks. Where did the Y come from in the Tygers ??
-
OQB
Well brother, They didn't want to be like Massillon, so instead of being the Tigers, they changed to the TYgers!5knots;907928 wrote:I hear you brother. Hey Folks. Where did the Y come from in the Tygers ??
