Orrville Red Rider Football 2011

skankSaw Orrville in a 7 on 7 at Massillon last week, and saw Northwest in a 7 on 7 at Massillon yesterday. I know you can't tell from 7 on 7's, but this has the makings of a very exciting game. Both teams look to be overstocked with athletes, both look to have very good qb's.

It's almost ALWAYS a great week 1 matchup. Would love to see this game later in the season when both teams have more "polish," but that's not realistic.skank;837195 wrote:Saw Orrville in a 7 on 7 at Massillon last week, and saw Northwest in a 7 on 7 at Massillon yesterday. With the exception of one recent addition, I don't know who is on the board/committee.RedRider1;819021 wrote:I think the reason the board doesn't nominate or "hand pick" inductees is to avoid being called biased. Funny how even in the face of facts & truth, it's still easier to imply just the opposite.
Nor did I say or suggest that it was the boards "responsibility" to nominate a deserving candidate.
What I am saying is that with so many of you here that are die-hard Red Rider fans, I find it difficult to believe that all of you are on the HoF board/committee, and that those of you that aren't, haven't found it within yourself to nominate for induction, Marcell Denson into the Orrville High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
I haven't "impiled" anything, I asked a question.
Don't you think that it's "Funny" how in the face of that "fact and truth" none of you will answer that question. -

Since community involvement didn't work too well, who's making the nominations now and what criteria is used to be deemed an inducted nominee?Rider77;818699 wrote:It's not the boards responsibility to nominate deserving candidates for nomination to the Orrville Sports HOF. It's always been the goal of the committee to involve the community in the nomination process. For several years the committee sponsored a full page nomination form inside the fall sports program. We never recieved a single nomination from that media so we stopped sponsoring it. Nomination forms are readily available at all HOF functions and to anyone who genuinely wants to nominate someone. Once nominated they are nominated for life. There is an old timers committee (or was one when I was a member) that considers for nomination anyone that has been a graduate for at least 40 years (i believe) or retired for 5 (coaches) that have not previously been nominated just prior to the election process. There is a great deal more work involved preparing for inductions than most people realize.
And, you can be nominated for life but never recieve the vote required for induction.
"There is a great deal of work required for induction", however, to be inducted you must first be nominated.
You mean to tell me that none of you (bard/committee member or not) want to nominate into the HoF an athlete that helped lead your team to back-to-back state titles, the leading scorer in the history of Orrville High School basketball! -
RedRider1He's been nominated. Thought i made that clear a month ago. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish by all this.

RedRider1Not that it will matter, or change anyone's mind...but one more thing about this Hall of Fame nomination thing.
I'd guess that 80-90% (if not 100%) of the time....nominations come from three places.
1. Family (parents, spouses, siblings & grown children)
2. Close friends
3. Classmates
I'd bet that casual fans with no friendship, class or blood relation to the individual almost never nominate someone.
Additionally, as a casual fan with none of those connections, I'd be very hesitant to nominate someone. What if a person doesn't want to be nominated? What if they're no longer living near Orrville and nominating them may create a financial hardship to travel back. Not being close to that person, I don't know that they even want or desire to be in. By nominating them without knowing this, maybe I offend that person. We've had past alumni who were very good athletes that for one reason or another dont want or need the nomination...and that's fine....but I'd rather that be their decision, than to nominate them and then they feel obligated.
So before anyone puts the onus on Red Rider Nation....I'd defer to family of the individual.
Can't believe this all needs to be explained in so much detail....but I guess that's what it takes. -
Rider77It's not a question of what we want to do. We have a set of bylaws that was for the most part copied from the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame. It's pretty common amoung these local HOF's that the electing body does not nominate candidates. Community involvement eleminates the kind of controversy and injustices that are being discussed here. Perhaps the committee could have done a better job of involving the public but they don't really have an extensive budget. The time to get involved in the process is before the election. We have had a number of candidates that have numerous nominations and some that were quite extensive. That certainly is a factor when the board considers a candidate.

Why? Much easier to complain after the fact and make thinly veiled accusations....even after being presented all the facts.Rider77;838301 wrote:The time to get involved in the process is before the election. -
thePITmanHow did Orrville do in the Akron 7-on-7 yesterday?
-

Looked very slow, qb can't find the open man, linebackers are slow, can't move and miss tackles ( hint, run right at them ) probably won't play together as a team until at least the 3rd game of the season, nothing to worry about for the titansthePITman;838698 wrote:How did Orrville do in the Akron 7-on-7 yesterday?
Actually I didn't see them but will this morning, What do you expect a scouting report for the trolls -
thePITmanLoL. I'm not a troll. Just trying to talk Orrville football. Just curious how the team did. Record? Teams they beat and/or lost to? That's not a scouting report. LoL. Besides, nothing you or I say on here will give the opposing coaches (Orrville's or Triway's) anything they won't already know by game week anyway. Haha.
So, does anyone know how you guys did yesterday?
I think it's great that Tim Hiller was able to bring his team to Orrville. Is this his first year as the head coach? If so, I'm sure it's got to be nice to have somewhere comfortable to get started like his alma mater. Good luck to him and his team! -
Old RiderSaw the 7 on 7 this morning. Really not much to talk about. I thought we looked good at times, but threw way too many homerun balls 40 yards up the field from a QB with experience. Hope we change that mindset fast...I just don't care for passing scrimmages much. Not a reallistic look at all for either side of the ball!
Pittman...we lost to everyone in Akron! Does that help? -
OQBI too saw the 7 on 7 today, from everyone's posts on here about previous 7 on 7's I thought we were this well polished machine. I thought theh offense was inconsistent today and I expected them to drive down the field with ease, but like Old Rider said, too many deep balls and "coverage sacks". Defense looked good, BUT Tim Hiller looks to have his work cut out for him this year putting in that offense.
Still can't wait until week 1! -
RedRider1I'll echo...too many fade routes. Hope we take advantage of all this experience an try some intermediate routes. No reason we can't be a team like that. Kyle has got to be a decisive QB this year. Either throw it or tuck it and run.
Defense looked good. Should be a fearsome unit when the pads start cracking. -
5knots7-7 scrimmages are just that....scrimmage. Coach D's view is he could care less about a score. Personally I think that is the most ridiculous thing in the world to keep "score" in a 7-7, almost laughable. We have guys out there sometime who will see very limited action if any at all on Friday night, but now is the time to see what they are capable of if you need to spell someone. Drew and Stew could have scored every other play if we wanted to keep "score" but how does that prepare you for a game. Tim's team was not a match athletically and there was no way Coach D was going to exploit that...no need and that does not make us better. You get guys out there to learn routes and a QB to get as many reps as he can do make better decisions. I have been to 7-7's before where a team actually hands off to make a first down....really! Oh my. The boys had a brutal 36 hours and physically handled it very very well. That will pay off down the road. I doubt there were many of the 12 teams at Akron U yesterday that lifted in the morning and conditioned when they got home and then woke up and had another 7-7 for 2 hours at 10am this morning. But that is the way the Red Riders do it. Work, stick to your schedule and plan and do it every day. Anyone who was at the scrimmage saw the physical difference of our athletes vs a much larger school from Michigan. It is no accident we look the way we do. Heritage, tradition, desire, whatever you want to call it, I think we have it. We have the toughest schedule facing us this we have had in a while. We need to see who will be able to contribute on Friday night, and we need to find that out very soon this year or we will have our butts handed to us early. NW, Copley, Lex are all playoff contenders in higher divisions. Kyle can hit our back on a wheel route every play in a 7-7, but does that really show you anything about a 2nd or 3rd level receiver? Nope. Keep working fellas...that is all we know here.

FlashTalked to a player and he said they won all the match ups except one at Akron. Talked to Tim today and he said his team has been doing ok. They have 7 - 7 on 7's this Summer. He said this was a good one for them because they haven't seen anyone with our speed.
-
RedRider1Said they have 1000 kids in their high school...or about twice as many as we do.
-
FlashTim said they had school until June 14 and then had a mandatory week off and then started again. I Agree with 5 knots that these are times you want to tune your passing offense and get that sync from the receivers and QB. It does the same thing for the defensive backs , lets them decide how they're going to cover and who can do the job. So you throw everyone out there and let them take a shot and see who is the best. Didn't see the last two scrimmages, but saw Massillon, and Stu and Brenner scored their share, so I'm not that worried. But I do agree we should develop an offense that is not dependent on the long ball. I think Kyle can be most effective if he throws intermediate passes and elects to run at the right times. These scrimmages won't show that. I'm not overly concerned about the line ( I may be after the first scrimmage with contact) until after we've had some contact. I think we've got enough guys in 10-12 to piece meal a line together. I don't think it will be a line that will blow people of the ball, but with the right play action will allow us to be effect along with a passing attack.

Go RidersCould not agree more!

RedRider1Jjhuddle.com says Orrville over Norwayne in the region 13 final and Kenton over Orrville in the state title game.
It's not the Cleveland Plain Dealer picking Triway to go to the state finals like last year, but take it with a grain of salt as always. -
footballnutThe Orrville vs Norwayne match up in a region 13 final would be great for this area. I would be shocked , however, if Norwayne could make it that far in D4. If they did I dont see anyway they could match up against us. I dont know that much about them but I would think our speed would be way too much for them.
